hi all, i am travelling to disney on 3rd march just wondering if anyone has taken american airlines route from manchester to chigago then down to orlando, just looking to see what u though really :coffee:

Yes, we've used it on several occasions. It's perfectly fine, especially the pizza they serve just before landing in Chicago!!! We are trying the American Airlines route from M/c to Boston and then down to Orlando when we travel to Vero Beach and OKW in July. We like this route better as it is shorter transatlantic flight and Boston is our very favourite US city and we have a 1 day layover on the way back and stop at the Boston Harbour Hotel on DVC points.

Not sure you can do this - when we had a layover at Philli we weren't allowed to leave international departures. . . we had a four hour delay eating cremey donuts.... That was on way out though!!!???

i don't know how they are on international routes, but within the US they have vastly improved.

I used to HATE AA with a passion. But this past August/September, my daughter and I ended up on AA for quite a few flights and I was pleasantly surprised. Of course many of them involved Texas (their home base) so that may have been part of it, but they were also good at MCO (we only flew into Chicago, not out, so I don't know how the ground staff is at O'Hare - we decided to forego the flight to Detroit and rented a car to drive there instead - but that's another story).

Anyway, we found the AA ground staff very efficient and friendly (i don't remember so many smiles from AA in many moons). And in the plane they were reasonably good as well.

Whenever we have had more than a 5 hour stopover we have always got out of the airport and done some sightseeing - Miracle Mile in Chicago, the stockyards at Fort Worth, walking around Boston, the Liberty Bell and Christmas shopping in Philly. I don't know why you didn't get out of the airport there? We had no problem and it really gives us a break, fresh air, stretch our legs and see something other than the inside of a coffee cup and the airport! Try it, you'll have a great time, so long as you give yourself lots of time.

In Chicago, within an hour of touching down you can be through passport control, rechecked your bags and be in a taxi to downtown. Chicago is a beautiful city, very vibrant, clean and friendly.

5 hours seems hardly enough time to make it in from O'Hare and back again in time for the lengthy security process...(and factoring in the possibility of massive traffic jams on the way back out as well - depending on the time of day)...
if you want to see Chicago (which is indeed a magnificent city) better to turn it into a real visit and actually stay a night or two in the loop....

AA is my favourite airline to fly with. We have flown with them lots of times and I can honestly say that we've never had any sort of problem. The flights have always been on time, their staff are friendly and helpful, the food has always been good and there's plenty of leg room!

As I've posted before, this is no longer as true as it was. AA got rid of 'More Room Throughout Coach' last year and put extra rows of seats back in. :(

I know about them taking extra leg room out which was a concern for me being 6ft 8 it looks like the flight will be half full anyway so just going to be first in the cue for an exit seat or bulkhead!!! Going to get some of those noise cancelling headphones before i go!

Whenever we book direct with AA or through Expedia, we go on to the AA website and choose our seats on the aircraft plan. I'm not sure you can do this with all airlines, but certainly with AA, US Air, BA and BMI. You probably need your booking reference to access the correct flight but you should be able to do this.
