Anybody here try ambien...Weeeeeee I'm dizzy. It doesn't take long for you to feel like this. It's kind of like spinning but not actually turning round and round. .It's too cool to walk down a dark hallway..It be like hey Wow, I have a haunted house in my own house...creepy of sorts.

But I like it. I'll try to stay awake as long as I can.. making it a game.. FUN it is!

:jumping1:

lol high off of perscription drugs! j/k.

i remember the first time they gave me codiene with my cough medicine when i was really sick. WOAH! was i OUT of it! i couldn't even walk straight, i had to hold onto the walls and my head was spinning a bit too. it was ok, but nothing i wanted to have longer than an hour.

now the stuff does nothing like that when i have to take it.

When I was in HS, I was too amped to sleep the night before a big swim meet, so my mom gave me half of a Nytol (OTC sleep med). I fell asleep but woke up about an hour later and wandered out to the kitchen (I remember none of this) and interrupted her while she was on the phone, saying, "Mom, come on! I need the thing!" She said, "What?" and I replied (apparently, I was annoyed that she didn't instantly know what I was talking about), "The thing! The thing! For the spaghetti!" She then said, "Uh, I think I'd better call you back," to the person on the phone and escorted me back to bed. :teeth:

We later determined that a) I was probably talking about a colander, and b) perhaps I'd better stay away from Nytol in the future.

:lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl:

i have sleep problems and sometimes i don't sleep for days(my doctor insists i don't have insomnia, says i'm "depressed" so he won't give me anything but keeps offering to give me anti-depressants....anyway) so one day i came home from work and i was exhausted and my mother goes "look, Kristy, Grease is on!" and i look at her, give her like the Fonzie "hey" hand movment and say "Grease is the WORD!"...... :confused3 then she asks me "Kristy....have you been drinking?" and then i burst out laughing hystericaly for seriously like 10 minutes.

Maybe it has a lower dose of codeine in it these days. But it is fun having a trip, courtesy of my doctor and the pharmacy.

HEE LOL this stuff is too much. I'm glad I gave my dogs their medicines before I took the the pill. I'd have that sticky stuff all down their necks instead of in their mouths. Then I'd wonder in the morning why my dogs had sticky necks?

The other day I took ambien and ordered from Home shopping network..(I've never ordered anything off tv) I woke up the next morning with my credit card on my dresser and had to THINK as to why it was there :rotfl:

It's like you're dreaming but you're not.

Heck I better go to sleep and keep HSN and Qvc off the tv tonight.

well the codiene didn't really do anything to me after that first night either like that. i think my body just had to adjust to it.

i definatly agree, it was like i was sleeping, but not sleeping.

and i get like that when i haven't slept too. i feel like a zombie. like my body is moving, but my brain is just like "dur!"

Kristy, Why can't your doctor give you sleeping pills..Gee Wizz! I'm laughing my but off about you saying, "grease is the word" to you mother. :lmao: that movie stink, stank, stunk. Drunk! you're delirious from not sleeping.

i laughed my butt off too! just think of that whole *click click* thing with your hands, and saying "Grease is the WORD!"

my doctor, for some reason, has the notion that i do not have a sleeping disorder, but that i am depressed and when i'd mention not sleeping, he'd try to perscribe me anti-depressants. so i just stopped mentioning it all together.

he's not really the greatest doctor i've noticed. i can't take anything with Sudafed in it, and once he prescribed it to me, and then another time he tried to again and i had to "remind" him that i have bad reactions to it. you'd think he'd have that flagged on my folder.

I take Ambien CR on occasion and it makes me loopy too :rotfl: I always make sure I have 8 hours devoted to sleeping (just like the commercial says LOL) so that I don't end up still all drugged up the next day. It really helps me fall asleep faster and I don't wake up during the night like I used to.

If you don't like the dizzy feeling, ask your doctor about Rozarem. I had used Ambien successfully for almost a year when I had a really bad reaction one day. I mixed it with an antibiotic and a decongestant when I was sick, and I had hallucinations and started vomiting. Now whether it was the Ambien or not remains debateable, but I decided to try something else.

Rozarem gives me a little "tingle" that lets me know I'm getting sleepy, but I never feel groggy the next day. I do have vivid dreams when I take it, though.

It's also the only sleep aid out right now that has no chance of chemical dependency.

It's worth a shot.

Diphenhydramine is the ingredient in Nytol, it's also the main ingredient of Benadryl and some other antihistimines and over the counter sleep aids.

My doc prescribed Ambien CR and it did nothing for me, didn't even put me to sleep. The stuff I was buying OTC worked better. The doc said it has to do with how quickly my liver metabolized the drug. Oh well, I stuck with the cheap, OTC stuff. :rotfl:

I take ambien on occasion and when I do I get these weird visuals. If I'm on the computer everything will start to look 3-D and then start 'rippling' like it's alive. Also, I have this figurine on my dresser that starts to move around as if it's alive. Weird. It does help with the insomnia, though, although after I take it for a few days, I find I have to wean myself off it with benadryl or unisom the following night or two.

Kristy, have you ever tried unisom? Most of the counter sleep-aids don't do much for me but unisom usually knocks me out, especially if I have a few glasses of wine. Also, melatonin is something else you could try. It is an over-the-counter supplement (not a drug) that works surprisingly well. Good luck - I know how frustrating it is when you can't get to sleep.

This is for anyone who can offer advice on how to stop taking Ambien. I have been on it (10 mg) for 6 months but really need to stop. It effects my memory and also even when I sleep, I wake up alot and feel like I still have not gotten any sleep at all....so really it is not worth it. I read to start taking 3/4 for a few nights, then down to a 1/2 and eventually a 1/4 pill. Has anyone tried this with success?

You can also try a script for Lunesta, it doesn't seem to have the side effects of Ambien and it is FDA approved for long term use. Last year my DSis was visiting for Christmas and spent about 1 hour enjoying the "dancing" lights on the tree after she took her Ambien and did not go straight to bed.

I haven't taken it before, but I know that one DISer has a great Ambien story. :rotfl2: Not my story to tell, however. :rolleyes1

I actually got a script for Lunesta and filled it but never took it because I heard of too many people getting an AWFUl taste in their mouths and also, that it was not effective. I guess I will just try to wean myself off as recomended. And yes, Ambien can be fun at times....but the long term use just ain't worth it anymore for me.

I have taken Ambien every night for the last 8 years due to my fibromyalgia.....but I have never taken it without being in bed ready to sleep? Why would you do that?

I was on 10 mg for more than a year and am now ambien free. I had to substitute it with benadryl and melatonin in order to sleep again but I am so glad I got off of it.

For me I just had to go cold turkey and it sucked really bad for a week or so. My doctor told me to be prepared to have classic withdrawl symptoms like people do getting off harder drugs like Cocaine *though the Ambien withdrawl would be much more mild*

I had the night sweats, the shakes, I'd cry really easy, not hungry, depressed, angry and exhausted. Once I got through those it was really easy to stay off of it. I didn't get them all at once but I'd get a few at a time. The thought of going to bed without it was really hard on me that first week.

For me it helped me sleep off and on but I had a hard time getting off of it because my mind had been programmed to "know" I needed it to sleep. One day when I was feeling brave I just dropped the pills in the toilet and flushed. Then I peeled the label off of the bottle and shredded it. That night I had my first meltdown being so angry at myself for doing it but at that point there was no going back and I had already told my doc not to give it to me no matter how hard I begged for it *and believe me I begged*

It was hard but the melatonin and benadryl really help put me to sleep it just takes longer than the Ambien did. I also found drinking a glass of wine about 45 min before bed helps too.

Good luck with getting off of it and if you need support feel free to PM me. I've been through it.

Try taking it with orange juice, this helps with the funny taste(it really isn't bad unless you "need" a glass of milk first thing in the AM). As far as effective I guess that is a person to person thing, for me it works fine.
