Amber's Get Healthy Journal (Comments Welcome)

Amber - just wanted to second everyone's thoughts about your knee. You need to rest it!! Don't injure yourself....besides a couple days will help your muscles rest and grow...you'll come back stronger than ever!

Today my knee has not been hurting me at all. I take that as a good sign. I appreciate the kind words and good advice. I have to admit that I was not going to follow it completely. I wanted to go out and walk for at least a mile. I was going to take it easy and NO running though. But, it seems that Mother Nature agrees with you guys that I should sit today out  I was ready to go out walking and about to put my shoes on when it started to rain. I sat at my computer and about 15 minutes later it stopped. I decided to try again. Once I got my shoes on, it started to rain again. :furious: I was Very irritated by that. I gave up and decided to take the hint. :teeth: So no exercise for me today.

Today I ate:
Breakfast - kashi w/ milk
Lunch - chicken sandwich & applesauce
Snack - kudos bar
Dinner - chicken, broccoli, & cauliflower curry w/ couscous

Last night I had some chips before bed. They are from the health food section of the grocery store, but there is still 6 grams of fat in a serving. I am trying to keep better track of my calories and fat again. I just have a hard time finding the time and energy to record it all. I know that is just lazy and a poor excuse, but for now it is how I feel. :sad2:

I do have to go out of town again this coming week. I will be in Covington this time which is just east of Atlanta. The hotel I reserved has access to a health club. I am really looking forward to that! I will try to eat better this time, but I have a willpower issue :rolleyes1 Then I come home for a week and then go back to Athens for another week. I know that there will be at least one more week after that, but I don't have any details for it yet. Whew, as much as I enjoy the fitness equipment I will be glad to be done with all of this traveling!

Have a good day! :sunny:

I'm glad you took a day off....I think your knee really needed it. Keep up the good work...your food intake today was great!!

marie

Hi Amber! Its hard to keep it up when youre traveling. Is your training almost over? Its nice to have the workout epuipment tho. It lets you check out different things and see what you like. Someone brought a recumbent bike in to work and I really liked that. (easy on the back) Right now, with my knee hurting all I can do is the ablounger tho. (my knee is much better tho, just letting it rest)

How is your house coming? Have they started yet?

:hippie:

I am not sure exactly how much more training I have. They say it takes about 3 months and I am at the one month mark now. :confused3 So it could be awhile.

The papers are signed for my house, but the work has not started yet. We are waiting on the temporary power pole to go up. It has been ordered though. :bitelip: I can't wait.

Today I ate:
Breakfast - kashi w/ milk, convience store cappicino (sp?)
Lunch - Red Lobster :guilty: popcorn shrimp, mashed potatoes, ceasar salad, 1 biscuit (haven't told Dh yet :smooth: ) I only ate 1/2 the shrimp
Not sure yet what we will have for dinner

Exercise has not been done yet. Planning to walk at least and maybe jog some if it doesn't hurt.

Off topic, my sis got a new kitten over the weekend and it is SO sweet and not afraid of Anything (unlike my old cat that was afraid of a shadow). Anyway, yesterday my mom said that Shell, my sis, will walk around saying, Mishu (the cat) where are you? when she can't find her. So today I decided to Cat-nap the kitty! pirate: I left a note that said, "Dear Mommy, I have run away! I will not come home! Do not come looking for me! Mishu" :rotfl: So when she came home she called me and said "did you come over here?" "no" "you promise" "yep" (ok, told a little lie there ;) ) "where is my cat?" "what cat?" :lmao: "You have my cat!" At this point I can here my dad in the background antagonizing her, "Why would she take your cat?" I said "maybe she ran away?" "No the door is closed" At that point I started to laugh and she said " Give me my cat back!" So she will come and get her when we exercise. I don't think she found the note :confused3 Well, I've had my fun for the day, guess it is time to go exercise. :teeth:

Have a good evening!

For exercise tonight:
Mom, sis, & I walked 2 laps then did 3 laps w/ a minute of jogging each. We weren't really feeling the jogging thing today so we quit after the third. They did 1 more lap and quit. I did 2 more walking before Dh got home, then we did 2 together pretty slowly. He left to go to the store and I was determined to get in 3 miles today so I said I would do 2 more by myself. Well, I figured since he was gone I might as well keep going. I had my mp3 player on (which I LOVE btw) and a good jogging song came on so I decided why not jog. I did jog and went past our usual stopping point and almost made it half way around the lake! :woohoo: I didn't count exactly but I think it was about 1.5 minutes and this was after walking for 3 miles! :cheer2: After that I was pretty winded though. I did one more lap and tried to jog some on it, but only did maybe 15 seconds. That was my final lap because then Dh came home. I stretched really good during and afterwards. My right calf is a little sore, but it will be ok. We were a little slow today so my time was 70 minutes for 3.5 miles walking mostly.

Great job on the exercise today Amber!!! Keep it up!!
Oh, and the cat thing....that's something I would do to my sisters....instigate and antagonize....it's fun!!!

Dinner Thursday night was leftover spaghetti.

Friday:
Breakfast - Kashi w/ milk
Lunch - leftover Red lobster & broccoli, cauliflower & carrots in low fat cheese sauce
Dinner - salad, cream of artichoke soup, and spinach fettichini w/ creamy pesto sauce. We went out and the food was Great but the service was HORRIBLE and then they tried to charge us extra because they failed to explain the menu accurately! I was really :furious: by the time we left, then to top it off the food upset my stomach! :confused3 Needless to say we won't go there again

I got in 25 minutes of walking yesterday. I walked to my mechanic's to pick up my car instead of having someone drive me. I am not sure the exact distance, but it is a little over a mile. It was not bad, but SO hot!

Today my parents and grandparents left to go to Hilton Head. Dh and I will have the house to ourselves until I leave Monday for training. Then my grandparents will be back Wed. It is SO quiet around here today. Dh went to hang out w/ his friends today also so I am alone. Ahh... Sweet peace and quiet. :cloud9: I have been washing clothes and goofing off mostly. I may go over to have dinner w/ Dh and his friends since he is cooking, but at this point I think I would rather stay here and just chill.

We went out for lunch to The Bagel Bakery. I had a white pizza bagel w pepperoni and he had a Rueben. Mine was really good. He had never been there before and seemed to enjoy it a lot. We are really into the little sandwich shops so I think we will go there more often now. It is really close to our house and cheaper than Panera, too. My lunch wasn't all that diet, but I had been considering buffet pizza for lunch :rolleyes1 so I figure it was a pretty good trade off. :smooth:

No exercise yet and to be honest it doesn't look like there will be any. I am enjoying lounging today. :teeth:

I will exercise tomorrow for sure and then I have Monday off for some holiday I've never even heard of (no complaints here :sunny: ) so I will try to do extra during the day Monday.

:hippie: Take it easy!

LOVE your Cat tale!! Sounds like something that would go on in my house!

Hope you're having a good weekend!

AWESOME exercising!

Saturday night I had 2 egg salad sandwiches for dinner and a mini pot pie thing that is kind of like a hot pocket. They were spread out over several hours, I just kept snacking.

Sunday-
Lunch - McAllister's Chicken Ceasar Wrap w/ a handful of Sunchips and sweet tea
Dinner - Chicken Curry w/ rice
Snacks - chocolate rice cakes, triscuits, and 3 pieces of chocolate

Exercise - walking 20 minutes, 1 mile

Today-
Lunch - Chicken Curry w/ rice
Snack - egg salad sandwich - Ok, all the easter eggs are Gone now :rolleyes1
Dinner - the plan is meat lovers pizza

Exercise today - I walked 3.5 miles in 60 minutes. My first and last miles were 17.5 minutes each and the middle mile was 16 minutes. :cheer2: After I finished I stretched and did 25 crunches. That took about 5 minutes.

I am all packed up and will leave for Covington this evening. I can't wait to check out the gym there! :woohoo:

Have a good day!

Last night for dinner I did have pizza. 3 slices of meat lover's. I got hungry later after I had been at the hotel for awhile, so I had some Chex mix out of the vending machine.

Today
Breakfast - oatmeal w/ a spoonful of peanut butter, milk, coffee
lunch - chinese buffet. I didn't eat way too much, but most of what I did eat was fried or otherwise bad :confused3 I have a real problem w/ the fried foods. :sad2:
snacks - small box of sugar free hotel mints, 1 bit o honey ( I usually forget to log the candy I eat during training :guilty: )
Dinner - Ok, so I had some cauliflower which is good, but it was fried which is Bad :rolleyes1 I'd never heard of fried cauliflower before & I just had to try it. It was pretty yummy actually. I also had a steakburger & fries.
Snack - Hershey's cookies & cream milkshake  just Had to have it

I didn't do so good on food today. I haven't been doing a very good job on it at all lately in fact. I have got to start doing better. What is weird is that I actually am showing some loss in weight over the last couple of weeks. I keep forgeting to log it. Mostly I think I'm afraid it isn't real and won't be there the next time. I was down to 199.5 early last week and when I weighed myself yesterday before leaving I was 188.5! :woohoo: It is taking me long enough, but I am happy!

So, I want to do better on my foods, but I think I'm doing pretty well on my exercise. The hotel Doesn't have access to the local gym like I had thought and the only equipment they have is a stairmaster and a bike. :p But I went to the gym and was able to buy a 2 day pass for $15, so I did that.

I spent 30 minutes on the elliptical and did 2.19 miles. Then I tried some of the weight machines, but I was having trouble figuring them out, so I gave up. Then I did 30 minutes on the treadmill. I jogged a tiny bit, but not enough to count. No real pain during workout, but my knee is a little sore now. Tomorrow I plan to do a little on the treadmill (just walking) and then try to get in on the BodyStep class they have, also maybe the AB crunch class. That should be a Good workout and lots of burned calories. :yay:

Good Night!

Amber - WAY TO GO!! You lost weight and your exercise routines are awesome!! I love how you walked to pick up your car the other day instead of being dropped off. Also love the fact that you went and purchased a 2 day pass at a gym during your trip...it would have been real easy to say "hotel doesn't have the right stuff so I'll just skip it" but you didn't! Great job.

I think the eating piece is what all of us struggle the most with....keep up the exercise and I bet you'll naturally want to start eating healthier.

OOPS!! Earlier today I was thinking about my journal and I thought... I didn't put 188 pounds did I? It was supposed to be 198.5 :guilty: :lmao: Must have been a serious wishful thinking slip there! Sorry. I usually proof read my entries but I was tired last night!

But I think I am on the right track to getting down to that 188! :cheer2: Today I didn't do too bad. Breakfast was a bagel w/ egg and cheese & coffee. I wanted to make sure I ate something more filling and w/ some protein. Lunch was Applebee's and I had the Southwestern Cobb Salad (something like that) off of the WW menu. The funny thing is when the waitor brought it out he brought this salad w/ Steak strips, Greasy onions, and Gobs of feta. I took one look and said That's not mine! And he said something like "the cobb?" (which it Obviously wasn't) & I go "THAT'S NOT WW" :smooth: He replaced it, but I had to get it to go because it was already almost time for us to leave to get back to class. The really good part is it was free :teeth: and yummy, and low fat! :cool1:
Dinner - I was starving cause it was 8 before I could get to dinner. I got crab cakes w/ a baked potato and the salad bar. I had a decent sized salad w/ not too many extras. The baked potato had cheese, sour cream, & butter :guilty: , but I did take off over half of both the sour cream and butter. The crab cakes were Delicious. There were 2 big cakes and I only ate one. :yay: Usually I would have tried to eat both.

Exercise today :yay: I did really good. I went to the gym and did 20 minutes on the treadmill. I think it was 1.19 miles. Then I went to the Ab Crunch class that was 15 minutes! That was REALLY hard, I thought my midsection would explode! But I did most of it. Then it was time for BodyStep for an hour. I have done some step classes in the past so the moves were familiar. I was suprised though at how well I did at keeping up w/ the pace of the class. When I have done them in the past I have felt like "I'm Done" midway through the class and there had been times were I would have to slow down some. But not today! :yay: I kept it up and even did the "next level" steps during some of it. The only time when I wasn't w/ the class is when I was fumbling w/ the steps. I was breathing hard, but able to manage it :yay:

This class made me Really want to join a gym again! Yesterday I was saying to Dh that I wasn't sure that I would want to rejoin a gym because I feel like everyone is looking at me and it was awkward yesterday. But today I was like I could do this again. In the past I never developed a routine for exercise and it was easy to just put it off, but now it is not only part of my routine, but it is a Priority! :cool1: I think that is something to be proud of!

Hope everyone is having a good week! I might not make it around to visit everyone's journals until the weekend. We have been busy this week and they have even given us some reading to do in the evenings. :p

See ya later! :sunny:

Amber - great job on the exercise!!! I agree w/ ScoJo....i would have totally taken the easy route and said the gym didn't have what I wanted so I didn't do anything - GOOD FOR YOU!!! Also, a loss is a loss, whether it's 1 pound or 10 pounds - GOOD JOB!!!
I would like to join a gym, but not sure if the schedule would allow it....

anyway, keep up the good work!! you are really doing great w/ the exercise!!

marie

Thanks Marie!

Ok, yesterday was the last day on my little 2 day gym membership, so I had fewer choices today. I went to the hotel fitness center and started on the bike. I have found in the past that about 10 minutes is all I can really do w/out my knees bothering me, so that is what I did. Then I jumped on the stairmaster. That didn't last long! I was on it for about 5 minutes when I gave up! It was Friggin' hard!! Plus I wasn't really feeling into it today. I just decided to give it up and go get dinner. When I finished dinner though I had some extra energy. So I walked around the hotel parking lot for about 15 minutes. So I got in about 30 minutes today. Not fabulous, but not too shabby either. :yay:

Food:
Breakfast - oat n honey granola bar, coffee, V-8 splash
Lunch - side salad w/ full fat ranch (they were out of light) & a blackened chicken sandwich w/ a little bit of mayo.
Dinner - beef burrito, chicken quesadilla, and Lots of cheese dip :guilty: I even put it on my burrito and quesadilla :guilty: I justified this by saying to myself that I haven't had much dairy this week and you know you're supposed to have 3 servings a day :lmao:

Off topic, one of the ladies I met in training goes skydiving almost every weekend! Dh & I have been wanting to try it for awhile, so we may end up going w/ her sometime! :woohoo: That will be SO awesome!

Training is going well. Tomorrow will be the last day of this portion of the training. I still have at least 2 weeks of training to go, but they will be part of a different series. I am learning a lot and enjoying training, but I will be glad to get back to some sense of normal.

Have a good night! :sunny:

Amber , you are doing great exercising. I am thinking about getting a treadmill myself, but I havent decided for sure yet. Seems nicer to go outside to me, but Im kind of a nature girl. Is there a nice place to walk where your new house is? I know in my neighborhood there are lots of women who like to walk together in the mornings. ( I cant cuz I have to work)

Keep up the good work girl!

:hippie:

Hey Amber!! :wave2:
Glad the training is going well. I know you'll be glad when it's done and you can get into a "normal" routine.....don't worry, there is a light at the end of the tunnel....and it's on your new house!!! :thumbsup2

Anyway, keep up the good work....the path around the lake is waiting for you!!!!

marie

Thanks for your ongoing encouragement guys! :grouphug: It is So helpful to me to log on and read all of your encouraging words!

Friday -
Breakfast - 1 chocolate glazed donut, 1 chocolate chip muffin, and 1 iced latte :guilty:
Lunch - country buffet - 3 fried green tomatos, mashed potatos, corn, black eyed peas, macaroni & cheese, salad
Dinner - mozzerella stuffed chicken breast w/ cream sauce on top, baked potato, lima beans Not too bad, but not too good either

No exercise

Saturday -
We got up early for once and were going to go to IHOP for breakfast. We drove around some and did a tiny bit of shopping first. Then Dh got paged for work and we ended up not getting a chance to go eat until 12:00. So we decided to go for lunch instead.
Lunch - Steak n Shake - Frisco burger, fries, chili YUM, I don't know if it was because I was so hungry or what but it was SO good!
Dinner - shrimp alfredo over whole wheat spaghetti. We bought a jar of light alfredo to use for this meal. The whole wheat pasta ended up being pretty tasty as well.

We walked for 40 minutes and did 2 miles exactly. We discussed our workouts and the fact that we need to intensify them most days, because we have limited time and Dh feels that he is wasting time if he isn't burning more calories. I agree w/ that for the most part. The funny thing is it is usually him that doesn't want to run or be more intense. :confused3 We really enjoy exercising outside also, but I am afraid that when it Really starts to get hot we won't stick w/ it.

Today -
Lunch - salad, tuna/pasta salad, mixed vegetables. They also had turkey that was from a neighbor. When I cut into my piece it had feathers inside where they had shot the turkey. :crazy2: I almost lost my lunch then and there. I just pushed it aside and went meatless for lunch. I am VERY funny about my meat and there was No Way I was going to "just eat around it" as my dad said to do!
Dinner - Chili w/ cheese and cornbread in it.

For exercise today we walked 1.25 miles in 27 minutes. Then mom and I got out the bikes and were going to ride. Dh took one though so mom didn't end up riding. I rode around the lake twice and was Completely out of breath and Pooped! There are some fairly small hills that seem Really big when you go up them on a bike, especially since I had not quite figured out the gear system. Then I rode the bike up to our property and back, which isn't far but it is up and down a pretty good hill. That may have been about 10 minutes of riding, but it wore me out more than an hour of walking! That probably means I should do that more often! Also, when I was riding around the lake I had to stop because the canadian geese that spend the spring in our lake had all of their babies in the path and they kept hissing at me! I had to go back the other way to keep them from attacking me. :teeth: They were so cute though! There are 7 of them. :sunny:

We met w/ the builder for our house yesterday. He said that they will be getting started most likely next week. I think they have finally tied up all the loose ends now. I hope so anyway. I can wait to see some progress! :woohoo:

Oh, yeah, while I was at training last week, the hotel room I was staying in had BEDBUGS!!! :earseek: I kept finding more and more bites on me, but I never saw any bugs in or around the bed. I didn't believe that it was bedbugs at first, but I couldn't figure out where the bites were coming from. Also it didn't seem that I would wake up itching or notice more bites immediately, they would itch mid morning or after lunch. Well, finally Friday morning while I was getting ready to check out I saw 2 on the bed! I was so upset. I told the front desk and the guy actually had the nerve to ask me "are you sure it isn't psychosomatic?" !! :furious: I said NO I have bites all over my arms and back and I showed him a few. They said they would take care of it, but I doubt it. I still itch really bad all over and I'm super paranoid. I left my suitcase outside and am washing everything immediately as I bring it into the house. I also took my contour pillow w/ me, so I washed it and that didn't work out the best. I think it will be ok, but it broke down some of the foam. Oh well, I will be a lot more vigilant about where I stay in the future!

Today -
Breakfast - frosted mini wheats w/ milk, coffee w/ toffee nut creamer and sugar
Lunch - leftover chicken and baked potato from Friday, applesauce
Snack - small handful of nuts, raisins, & seed mix
Dinner - salad w/ cheese, nut mix, & full fat dressing  (we ran out of the good stuff); spaghetti
Totals - calories - 1112 fat - 41 :faint: How did I get so much fat!

Exercise - 10 minutes of bike riding  That was one mile and I was completely POOPED! Then 1 mile of walking for 20 minutes.
Total - 30 minutes

I haven't yet decided what I want to sign up for on the May exercise challenge. I will figure it out tonight or tomorrow.

I signed up for the New Year, New You Journaling challenge for this month. I do pretty good at journaling, but sometimes I miss small things like mints or chocolate kisses. Also I have been slack on putting it in Fitday to get my calorie & fat totals. I am going to work on getting back in that habit. I may end up putting it in there and just reporting my totals here instead of listing everything. I haven't decided yet. :confused3

Steak & Shake - YUM!!! One of my favs, but they don't have them in NM.

Sounds like you're doing AWESOME!

Hope you have a great week.
