Ack, I hate to seem lazy, I like to try to find these answers for myself. But can anyone tell me something about Amazon.com wish lists? If I buy something from a person's wish list, can they tell that it was purchased? I bought something from my son's list and now it doesn't show. I wonder if it's just hidden for me or if he will, in fact, know what he's getting for Christmas based on what is missing.

It still shows for him. But for anyone else looking, the items marked as purchased will not show. I buy things for my husband off his wish list and he has no way of knowing until he gets them.

Sigh of relief. I'm big on the Christmas surprise thing! haha. Thank you so much for your quick response, I appreciate it.

The settings have a "Don't Spoil My Surprise" feature that, if turned on, leaves the items on your list if they've been purchased. If someone tries to purchase it they receive a duplicate gift warning.

I remember last year clicking on my kids' lists to see what they got - but you have to cick on each item to find out.

My DD's list has 3 options, show 'all', 'purchased' and 'unpurchased'. My mom bought her some stuff and when I went to delete it from her list, I had to select the 'all' option because otherwise I couldn't find it. If she was managing her list, she would have definitely been able to tell that those items had been purchased.

It must depend on the setting then. I purchased several things for my husband off his list before Thanksgiving and when he looked at the list last week through his account they were on there. In fact when I did buy things it said "Don't worry, we wont ruin the surprise."

I did some digging and yes, if they want to, it seems like they can tell. He will do it, too.:(

But I have a theory.... what if you buy it by NOT clicking on the "add to cart" button within the wish list. Just search for the thing and buy it as if you didn't even know it was on someone's wish list.....

From Amazon
Don't spoil my surprises

When you leave the "Don't spoil my surprises" checked, we keep any gift purchases made for you secret for several weeks. During this time, the item will continue to appear as unpurchased on your list. If you try to purchase an item that's been gifted to you already, we will warn you to protect against duplicate purchases.

The owner of the wish list would only be able to see if something was purchased if they try to buy it for themselves or they un-check the "Don't spoil my surprises" box. This box is checked by default.

My daughter has a wish list and she knows exactly what is missing from her list- turns out she makes the list under one account and then logs on under another to see what is missing! Little creep!
