Amazon Web Services having issues

I was trying to get a QR code to return something earlier and it wouldn't go to the page. Its working now and I just got everything I needed for the return

Students weren't able to take exams today at the university where I teach. I'm thankful that my class's exams were on Saturday, but I couldn't enter any grades starting around noon. It's working now.

It's going to be a mess for them to reschedule missed exams because the exam matrix is carefully crafted so there won't be any overlap. All upcoming time slots are taken, and students have travel plans to head home so they're not going to want to extend exam week. I don't know what they're going to do and I'm so glad the only hardship for me is that I'm a little behind in my grading.
Some of DD's courses use Webcourses and they were having trouble. I'm not sure if Webcourses is a separate website, or a program that schools run on their servers. She has an anatomy final tomorrow that is to be administered only via Webcourses. I hope it works!

The US-EAST-1 region appears to be impacted so it is regional. Keep in mind that doesn't mean only the geographical eastern US is served by this region. Some other regions may load balance here and cause other bottlenecks.

Most recent updates from Amazon:

[2:04 PM PST] We have executed a mitigation which is showing significant recovery in the US-EAST-1 Region. We are continuing to closely monitor the health of the network devices and we expect to continue to make progress towards full recovery. We still do not have an ETA for full recovery at this time.

[2:43 PM PST] We have mitigated the underlying issue that caused some network devices in the US-EAST-1 Region to be impaired. We are seeing improvement in availability across most AWS services. All services are now independently working through service-by-service recovery. We continue to work toward full recovery for all impacted AWS Services and API operations. In order to expedite overall recovery, we have temporarily disabled Event Deliveries for Amazon EventBridge in the US-EAST-1 Region. These events will still be received & accepted, and queued for later delivery.

[3:03 PM PST] Many services have already recovered, however we are working towards full recovery across services. Services like SSO, Connect, API Gateway, ECS/Fargate, and EventBridge are still experiencing impact. Engineers are actively working on resolving impact to these services.

Always think of situations like these when some companies make it sound like our lives need to be more dependent on the internet.

We already are dependent on the internet and computer systems. Look how hackers stopped the flow of gas in the Southeast. If hackers shutdown Amazon the country would come to a screeching halt.

It was really more of an indirect consequence. Some sort of PC virus infected their computers when an employee opened a dubious attachment they found in an email. The company decided to shut down their system to avoid spreading the virus further.

My Amazon music wasn't working on my drive home yesterday.... and the Ring doorbell/security seemed to be down quite a while. Everything seems OK now.
