Amazon shipping warning

On December 3rd, I ordered 4 items..all had "ship within 24 hours" notation.

Because I used the free shipping option the shipping dates were January 13-27th !!!!! unbelievable....how can they note a 24 hour shipping time and then wait to ship for 6 weeks????

Went back in to track the order and was able to change the shipping option to 'standard' and pay 8$ for shipping.

So...beware of free shipping at Amazon.

What is it you are shipping? I've done about 5 orders, multiple items, different depatments, that all came pretty fast. Some in a few days, others within 2 weeks.

I just ordered some books from them. The free shipping option stated that there would be delivery in 5-7 days. We'll see .........

I ordered 2 books, an inexpensive children's electronics and a VHS video tape.

I noticed this last night too! And it wouldn't let me change the shipping option so I had to send an e-mail to Amazon. I still don't know what's going to happen. I am so frustrated right now.

It could be that one of your items that you ordered became back ordered and made your shipping delayed. I have used the free shipping four times now and haven't had a problem. It usually only adds two extra business days for me. I just put one through for software that I want. Since I am in no rush to get it I don't mind if it comes after Christmas. Right now I have an esitmated delivery date of December 17-24th (nice big range isn't it ) I'll keep track of that one and see, but the software is $60 off of $75 so I think I can wait

I did use the free shipping once and then found the item I ordered for $10 cheaper the next day. I decided I wanted it shipped earlier so I just a canceled the order and redid the order. Could you do that Sharon?

Helenabear, that's a good idea, but I just canceled the whole order and went out and bought the items at a some local stores. Luckily, I was able to find everything and at pretty decent prices too. I had too many items in that order that we're important to the kids to take any chances.

I had a problem with Disney Store Online's free shipping, too. Items were shipped via Airborne and according to their website should have been here in 2-3 days... it took 11 days. Airborne apparently has some agreement with USPS these days where they deliver package to nearest (big city) post office and then USPS takes it from there. I was tracking it online and it sat in Charleston at the disstribution center and then at the post office for 5 of those days. I emailed Disney Store about it but they wouldn't put a trace on it until had been out 12 days - and of course it came the next day....

I placed another Disney Store order with free shipping weekend before last and with all items in stock it has yet to be shipped. I needed the stuff this weekend, but doesn't look like I am going to get it.

So, yeah, beware of free shipping - sometimes it works great sometimes it doesn't.....
