Amazon Shipping in Packaging

I know Amazon will sometimes ship items in the product packaging. Like a Blender being shipped in the box or similar. But I just got a sheet set delivered and they weren't in a box or other packaging. They slapped a label on the outside of the plastic packaging the wrapping and shipped it. That is a first for me.

Has anyone else had something shipped to them like this?

We ordered 5 5 gallon buckets of deck stain.

3 came in boxes and 2 just had labels put on the cans.

Cracked me up that we could even order deck stain with Amazon and that 2 buckets could travel 1,000 miles as is and arrive fine.

Did they actually physically ship it or did it just come from a warehouse straight into one of their vehicles and then delivered to you?

It's supposed to say on the order page if they are going to deliver it "in original packaging" and give you the option of having it shipped in an Amazon box instead. I always have them put it in an Amazon box. Living in an apartment building where our packages are held in a centralized location, I don't like the neighbors knowing what I ordered. Just knowing I ordered from Amazon, Walmart or where ever is enough.

I can’t remember if it did that or not to be honest. And if it did I assume the “original” packaging was a box.

It's easy to miss. I almost did that with one of my last deliveries. It's just one line to checkmark.

Was it packaged the way it would look on a store shelf? That's what they mean by "original packaging showing contents," or however the wording goes.

I always think allowing the delivery guy to ship a blender looking like a blender in it's flimsy store shelf box is just asking for them to toss the box around the building. :duck: It might not even arrive in one piece.

I know several professional crafters who ship their items. They double box everything, use lots of bubble wrap and purposely NOT use "fragile" labels on the box as they've had previous experiences where it seems the shippers have purposely thrown the box around and stuff had been delivered pulverized. :badpc: I really don't know how Amazon gets away with shipping stuff without extra packaging, like a decent box.

Yes. It was in the same packaging as you would see a set of sheets on the shelf at Walmart or Target. I forget what it was that I ordered recently that was “shipped in original packaging” and I marked the put in an Amazon box and was surprised that the item was already in a nondescript box. So I basically got a box inside a box.

I am not made about the way it was shipped. But I did get a good laugh from it.

I cannot recall specifically what the packages have been, but yes.... we have had packages come in like that before from Amazon.

I think it's smart to eliminate extra packaging, as long as the item arrives in excellent condition. Some idiot packed some cabinet paint I bought off of Amazon in one of the white bubble wrap bags. The driver couldn't tell what was in the bag, it got crushed, and the paint was all inside the bag, leaking out one corner. I'd much rather have gotten the can with a label on the top, so the driver would know it was paint and not crush it.

I am a prolific orderer and it happens to me all the time. From toys to cat food and everything in between! Sometimes it makes sense and other times you can tell the warehouse was just slapping labels.

On the flipside I have had some HUGE boxes come with teeny stuff thrown in that makes you wonder, too. 😁

You could probably do the same mailing things through USPS. Every year I ship a Halloween care package to my daughter by slapping a label on a jack-o-lantern bucket (with the opening taped over).

Your post reminded me of this that I had seen in a blog or pinterest years ago

Never had them ship something like that wasn't packed somehow. Have had a few things (like a vaccum or air fryer) shipped in their original packages, but the page clearly said that's the way it would come. Everything else has come in an Amazon box or plastic shipping envelope (more and more come like that lately). I wouldn't expect a set of sheets to come like you got yours though :(

No, not ever. In fact, Amazon stuff is ridiculously over-packaged for delivery, in my experience. In the past two weeks I've ordered two things; a hard-cover Dr. Seuss book and 3 sets of sheer drapes. Both items are fairly indestructible and would have been more than adequately protected in the white, plastic bubble wrap pouches that Amazon sometimes uses. Instead, they used large (and I mean really big) cardboard boxes filled with the inflatable plastic pillow things - there were 6 of them in the box with the book. :confused3

They shipped it. UPS delivered it.
I've had it delivered without a box although generally it was heavy or bulky items but technically it could be anything. I can understand how seeing sheets like that would be surprising if you're not expecting it.

The last time I ordered k-cups I did it from two different brands each a 40 count box or something like that. On the box itself for each was a shipping label for sending to Amazon's warehouse. They put both of those boxes in a cardboard box and delivered it that way but I did wonder if I had only ordered one would they have just put a new label over the other one and sent it to me that way.

Yes! I just ordered a suit for DS (growing fast so don’t want to spend a lot of money) and the shipping label was slapped on the plastic garment bag. I was shocked 😂

I wonder how much of this is the pressure put on Amazon warehouse workers, instead of them just being lazy and slapping on a label. :scratchin One warehouse here tried to unionize. Of the many complaints they had in favor of unionizing, some of them said due to the pressure to get a certain amount of packages sent out per hour, that they aren't allowed time to even get bathroom breaks, let alone a lunch break or water break. With the shortage of workers since the pandemic, the numbers each employee needs to get done is even greater. So slapping on a label instead normally boxing saves lots of time.

The problem with this is that there is only so much "top space" in a truck. At some point, some things have to be in the lower or middle section of a heavy pile in the truck. With more things flimsily packaged, some stuff is bound to be crushed, tipped over, laying sideways. :crazy2:

Yet I got powdered peanut butter delivered yesterday, in an Amazon box. When I opened the box, it was sealed inside of an amazon shipping envelope completely in tact, also with a label with my name and address on it.

I've gotten items with just the shipping label. Sort of a pain when you intend to give it as a gift. Have to peel it off very carefully.

On the other hand, I an order of about 8 items from walmart, including 4 or 5 2oz bottles of craft paints. I got it in FOUR separate mailings. I'd rather wait an extra two days and get everything in one box.
