I signed up for a free trial of Amazon Prime because there was something I needed very quickly, and I didn't want to pay shipping for it. So, what should I do to make good use of this free trial? What is available besides free shipping?

We really enjoy the free streaming videos available with Amazon Prime.

We utilize the free streaming videos. There are books for the Kindle that you can 'borrow' for free too, IIRC.

Depending on the kind of trial, you may only get the shipping benefit. I don't think they all have access to the streaming or the kindle books.

That said, you could stock up on groceries or paper products you may need. Any birthday's coming up so you could stock up on presents?

My wife signed up for the free trial yesterday to see what if anything she will use. We will see, but after further investigation after she signed up for the free trial, she said it appears there isn't much of anything she would use. She already is the Queen of the free book downloads.

I did the free trial and was really disappointed. I think a lot of the features you get with paid prime you don't get with the free trial, didn't make me want to pay for the service after that.

I had a free trial a few months ago to stream some stuff in a hotel room - worked fine for that (although the hotel wi-fi wasn't great). We have a Prime account, but its on my husbands account, not mine, and my iPad was on my account and I don't know his password.

If you don't have a streaming service, stream if you can - if you already have Netflix there is a lot (although not absolute) overlap. For us, Prime is a huge bargain. A lot of stuff gets ordered through Amazon so the free shipping pays for it. Plus, the Kindle loans and the streaming (on top of the Netflix streaming).

Does the streaming work when you are on the free trial? At one time I know it did not. I use it a lot for the free shipping, better selection than locally, (and actually pretty competitive prices). The streaming isn't really a "thing" for me, I don't really use that, but some people might like it.

It worked when we did a free trial a year and a half ago. We did not get free streaming years back when I had 'amazon mom' when my kids were still in diapers.

the best thing I've found about Prime is that you can sign up several family members. My brother signed us up and it's been great. So if you share the cost, it ends up worth it, at least to us

It did in March....

I hope the streaming works! The movers are taking our tv on Friday, but I'll be living here for another couple of weeks. Having movies and shows to choose from will be great!

We order TONS of stuff from amazon, that is is reason we have the prime membership. We easily save about $100 a year on shipping alone. Only streamed 1 movie. We use Netfilx almost daily though.

I would say buy the membership. It is a huge bargain, especially wen you consider the fact you get streaming movies and the books for kindle for free. I believe you do get the free movies on the trial for streaming as well. HTH.

We are using Amazon more and more - and it may be that at some time in the future we drop the Netflix account. We HAVE streaming through Amazon - we bought the prime membership for shipping (and yes, save a ton). And if we can wean ourselves away from the Netflix, we will save more.

And now that I've been doing Swagbucks, the Amazon streaming we get charged for gets paid for with gift certificates (we don't have cable and there are a few things we do purchase - we figure its about $200 a year in shows we have to buy - that's easy on Swagbucks) So our TV bill went from being well over $1000 a year, to potentially being "free."

(ETA: There are a few things I'll get via Redbox as well now, but not much).

Me too! I have had prime for years and love it just for the shipping. I use Netflix, not Prime for my movies.

I'm obsesses with amazon prime. Getting everything I need delivered free in 2 days. I have also found that the prices are better than in the stores.
