If you go to Amazon you can read all about it and how it works, as well as the price.

It is $79 a year vs. $8.99 a month for Netflix.

I had both for awhile and about 75% of the time they both had the same movies available so I just went ahead and got rid of Netflix all together.
Amazon now has an iPad app so I can watch my prime videos (and others I have purchased) on my iPad as well as my bluray player and Kindle Fire. Now they just need to get an iPhone app and I will be completely happy.

I was thinking the same thing

Lets say I found a movie and it is priced at 4 dollars to watch now will I be paying that or will it be included in the 80 dollars

It will say something like "$.00 with Amazon Prime". If you're a member it's the price it says. The $80 is for the membership only.

Note that not all tv shows & movies are included in an Amazon Prime membership. There is a category called "Prime Instant Videos" which are the free shows/movies that come with your membership. A lot of what Netflix has still isn't "free" with an Amazon Prime membership. Pretty much everything my husband and I watch on Netflix still costs extra through Amazon so we decided against it. Before you buy a membership, look up some of the shows or movies you are interested in to see if they say "$0.00 with Prime" or if they show a price.

Amazon recently announced that you could do Prime on a monthly basis, I think it is $7 or $8 a month. Obviously it is cheaper to pay for it yearly, but you could try it for a month or two and if its not worth it to you, you aren't out alot of money. Also, you can cancel your membership at any time and you are refunded a pro-rated rate.

You also have to have a Kindle to borrow books from Amazon. Kindle owners who also have Amazon prime can borrow one free book a month.

They canceled that already. http://www.geek.com/articles/news/amazon-cancels-monthly-prime-option-after-two-weeks-20121119/

There are free trial memberships out there though.

We have both and use Netflix more. We mainly use the Amazon streaming for those times when we miss a show and can't find it anywhere else.
Amazon Prime does also have the free shipping, which we make good use of.

If you are a reader, one book per month isn't going to cut it. Don't do it just for the ebooks. If you want to borrow ebooks, get them from your public library instead; no charge and you can read as many as you want.

I haven't seen anyone who says that Amazon Prime is worth getting for anything except the shipping benefits. The free streaming shows and Kindle rentals are nice perks, but they don't compare to Netflix. There are a few popular things on Amazon Prime Videos, like the Thor movie, all of Arrested Development, etc., but most of the TV shows are only the first season. I think the idea is you will want to pay for later seasons.

I love having prime, and the videos are a nice bonus, but nothing more.

Ditto. We have Prime, but not because of the streaming video or lending library. They are nice little perks, but the real value comes from the free 2 day shipping.

Thank you I did not know it was just one book a month and there was a lot of good things to watch but not to justify 80 dollars a year thank you for your help

I order alot from Amazon so it made sense for me to do Prime...I also just watched the whole first season of Downton Abbey and am partly through the second season. I find it so much easier to watch things on my laptop then on Netflix where I have to change TV settings, etc.

I got it mostly for the shipping, though.

I have Amazon Prime and love it. I'm a tech hound, so it's fabulous for me. Free two day shipping (I order a LOT) has easily paid for it, plus I get TV series and movies free (selectively), as well as deals on Kindle books and often, free books for Prime members. I already have Netflix (which I want to point out, is also free streaming), so Prime is just a huge bonus as far as I'm concerned. The free ship has already paid for it.

Do you have Netflix as well? If so
why not watch that on your laptop?

We don't ever use Amazon instant. So far I have found one movie I wanted to watch that was free for Prime members. And I have a Nook so I cant borrow books. We have Prime just for the shipping. As much as we order we save a ton.
