I know I have beat this drum before but pay attention to prices when participating in Amazon Prime days. I put about 20 items on my wish list last week and went into the "add note" and documented the current price. Of the 20 or so items, almost all are on sale for anywhere from 15%-40% off!!! Yaay. EXCEPT most ended up being the exact same price - or even a few cents higher - than the price last week.

There might be deals to be found but I would run any prices you find against competitor's sites to see if they really are deals

Just one example - this item was regular price $191.99 last week

There are some savings but it is only a few dollars, not the 50% savings it shows. I'm not buying it but a $149 suitcase I was watching is listed as 40% off and is now $140. The math ain't mathing on that one.

Keep in mind that the percentage off is based on the list price, not necessarily the "normal" price it is on Amazon:

"The List Price is the suggested retail price of a new product as provided by a manufacturer, supplier, or seller. Except for books, Amazon will display a List Price if the product was purchased by customers on Amazon or offered by other retailers at or above the List Price in at least the past 90 days. List prices may not necessarily reflect the product's prevailing market price."

That being said, I haven't really noticed any great deals on items I've looked at today either.

There is an item that's been in my "save for later" category for a little over a year now. It's been in the $550 to $600 category all that time. I woke up this morning and it was dropped to $348 so I grabbed it. I didn't see as much savings on some of the other stuff in my cart for later, but that one was worth the purchase.

Best deals I've gotten today...

Gift cards and Starbucks K Cups (36 cents/cup was kinda awesome)...
I've picked up a few other grocery deals b/c grocery and gift cards seem like the best deals today. Haven't bought anything "non-consumable"...

it's also worth it to compare with target's prices b/c with something like an electronic cooking item you might only use occasionally during the hotter summer months it's nice to have a 90 day return window (target) vs. a 30 (Amazon). nothing worse than going to use something for only the 3rd time or so and it's not working.

I just picked up 23 and me plus health for $98.99, I know it isn't secure but I already know I'm BRCA2 positive but I want to see what else it finds and to test accuracy. A good choice for anyone else where the cat is already out of the bag for life insurance and who has it, usually $198.99.

Picked up an Ancestry kit for $39 just ethnicity as a gift for someone where BRCA isn't a concern, usually $119.

I found some of 23 & Me results to be less than accurate for me personally. But it was fun to see what they found.

Many sites online sell the same products. So it is always a good idea on bigger ticket items to shop around. I have often found that what is advertised as a 'sale' on one site may really not be any bargain compared to the regular price shown elsewhere.

Nope, not doing it. You never know when you are going to murder someone and accidently leave DNA on the scene. better to be safe than sorry.

Where did the lightening deals go? That as always my favorite part - looking at all that stuff that you never knew you needed.

This is why my "save for later" section is always overflowing. It's like a giant "wait for sale" shopping list. I got a good price on a pair of shoes I've been wanting for about a year - interestingly I went to get my son a pair and they went up in price after I bought mine. Good timing I guess.

I don't know which of the DNA places it was but I read an article several years ago (maybe genetic testing is better now) where a reporter sent in DNA samples under pseudonyms and they all came back with different results for her ethnicity/origins.

Some were kind of close like 25% Irish versus 35% Irish but some were way off from each other.

There have been random mentions of people getting results for different species (like sending in samples from their dog and having them come back with human results) but I couldn't tell you which brand it was. I just sort of wrote off the idea that any of them were doing seriously good work at that point.

The main one I remember had to do with the results saying I am most likely to have an athletic build & average weight. But reality says I am overweight and fall into the obese category. And I believe it said I am mostly likely to have light colored hair and i have med-dark brown.

Camel camel camel is an excellent tool for checking the prices if you are unsure:

You can also set up email alerts for price drops.
I'm not sure I really want to know. This morning I was so proud of myself for finding a Keurig that's supposedly usually $109, on the Amazon Prime Day Deal for only $59. A few months ago our Keurig came very close to dying, but DH was able to resuscitate it. We're both such coffee addicts we'd HAVE to buy a new one before the next day. So this one is our emergency purchase-we'll tuck it away for when our 5-6 year old Keurig does die. Now I wonder what I really saved!
