So I just went to place an order and now it is showing that I need $35 to qualify for free SS shipping :( Does anyone know when it changed?

We have Prime so I'm not sure when it changed, but that is a huge bummer. :( $35 is an awful lot to spend on Amazon in one transaction...at least for me.

It started yesterday :sad2:

I placed an order last night for $27 and still got free shipping. I did see it has changed since though, that is a bummer. I used to order so much from Amazon, had been a Prime member for years but becasue of the new add-on program I didn't renew, it seemed like everything I ordered turned into an add-on and the point of Prime was so I didn't have to find a way to spend $25. Now that its gone up to $35 I doubt I'll be doing much shopping there at all.

I have prime and will never give it up now! I love it. However, most of my orders are over $35 anyway. ;)

I believe it is officially effective today, Oct. 22nd, although I noticed they started updating the screens last night - I saw it about 8pm or 9pm PT.

I'm amazed they managed to make the change, without word getting out ahead of time and causing an uproar.

I'm not thrilled with the change - I don't pay for Prime because I only buy from Amazon a few times a year and don't need access to streaming. But it's not going to ruin my day. I find these days I'm buying more and more from other vendors that offer a cheaper total price (item cost + shipping) than Amazon does.

I really love Prime. I am probably saving money with it. Before, I used to have to add stuff to my bill to get over $25. Now, I buy something for $5 and it's at my door the next day. Makes even more sense, now!

I hope they don't raise the price of it, though.

Love prime! I would give up my Costco membership before I'd give up Prime.

I thought nothing of spending $25 but have a problem with $35. Will be shopping less there. Do have 3 gifts left to buy there for Christmas. Luckily it is a little over $35. Am just waiting to get paid next week.

I find this change really interesting. Wasn't there an article a few months ago where they were thinking about giving free shipping for ANY purchase because their studies showed that people spent more money in the long run when they didn't have to pay for shipping?

I've been ordering from Amazon for a long time and have been a Prime member for more than two years. When they started the add-on program I only knew about it because of posts in this Forum. Since it's started we've only had about two instances where the item we wanted was an add-on and kept us from buying. Prime works for us because we order from Amazon frequently, especially at Christmas time and we also use the Free Monthly Book (occasionally) and the Prime Movies.

I place an order on Oct 15th. As of this morning it still hasn't shipped. I've never had that problem with Amazon before and I think it's because I had an add-on item in the order. Won't be doing that again!

It might hurt sales, especially spur of the moment type purchases. Before you had to wait till you had $25 worth of qualifying merchadise to get the free shipping and now the wait will be longer, giving you more time to decide you don't really need the item or to find it elsewhere. But I also have read over the years how profitability has been lagging at Amazon, and I imagine shipping costs add up to quite a bit of money there. So maybe they found that this level of purchase helps them make up for the free shipping profit-wise.

I wish it wasn't the case for me, I really loved being a Prime member. I miss it, just because I use the super saver shipping when I order and the wait is so long compared to when I had Prime. I went through my past orders, and most of the stuff I ordered regularly (grocery, household and health & beauty items) had changed over to add ons, so unfortunately the cost isn't worth it for me anymore.
I never used the movies, or free book service because I just would download the freebies and borrow ebooks from my library.

I have also found that Amazon's deals aren't as great as they used to be. I remember b&m stores not even coming close to Amazon's prices, but that isn't really true anymore for the things I tend to buy.
