Amazon Fire TV Stick deal: $19 for Prime members

I know, I would love to drop cable too! If someone ever comes out with a way to get sports without cable, we'll be set. That's the main thing holding us back from dropping it.

Yep, this is our main problem too. Dh could not live without his sports networks!

I ordered one for my daughter. She doesn't have cable at her apartment, just internet. She streams content on her computer and watches local stations on her TV. At least she will be able to watch NetFlix, Amazon Prime and Hulu on the bigger screen. Too bad they don't have HBO Go on it. I would get another one for my son if it did.

I think we're heading that way. With recent announcements by HBO and CBS that they will offer their own standalone streaming services, I believe the rest of the broadcast world--including ESPN and the major sports--won't be too far behind.

Thing is: when you look at what these companies are charging for their standalone services, I wonder if consumers will come out ahead in the long run vs. cable. Guess it will depend on how many different services you're buying.

Thank you for sharing, OP! This seems way more convenient than my current method of using the laptop to stream from Amazon, and it can travel with us.

My sister who does not have Prime would love to have one. I wonder if I order one for her if she can use it for Netflix.

I noticed in the set up details at Amazon it says:

"Fire TV Stick arrives pre-registered to your Amazon account and sets up in minutes"

any tech savvy person know if I as Prime subscriber would be able to buy one and give to Sis?
TIA

OP- your link is a referral link. You may not be benefiting personally from this link but a charity you are affiliated with is.

I didn't even realize this was a referral link and had no idea Amazon even had such things. Is this something anyone can set up on their account? Does a portion of each purchase go towards the charity you select?

I don't think that smile is really a referral... it is just a setting you can set on amazon where they make donations of your choice. It is simply another name for the plain old amazon site.

Thanks OP, I was wanting another Roku but this is even better because it's portable! Perfect and great price!

This would make a great gift for either my parents or my in-laws...

Wondering if anyone knows if they can be registered to different Amazon accounts; we are Prime members but piggybacking off of my BIL's account so only get the free shipping perk and not the streaming on our account. My folks do pay for Prime so they get the streaming but the Fire Sticks would be purchased on my account. My in-laws don't have Prime but it would benefit them to have easier access to Netflix.

I almost bought this for our upstairs tv but we already have an Apple TV box that doesn't get much use. Is this better than the Apple TV? I don't really like the amazon instant movies much.

I'm in for one, since I will be able to "throw" whatever is on my Kindle Fire onto my tv. Cool!

Thanks!

Terri

Thanks OP!

Amazon Smile is linked to a charity of your choice and a percentage of your purchase does go to that charity. I am not sure how to select your charity normally because I linked my Amazon Smile to a local animal shelter using a link that they posted. You just have to then make your purchases through the Amazon Smile checkout rather than the normal Amazon checkout, but they work exactly the same.

Thanks!! I just added my local SPCA to my account. I didn't even know this was an option, but I will gladly help a good cause if I can. Especially since I'll be shopping there anyway.

We decided to order one said it will be delivered Dec 19th. Figure if we don't use it much or decide to drop our prime we are only out $20.

No problem! I'm glad you were able to find a local charity! I'm of the same mindset - I shop at Amazon anyway, so someone else might as well benefit too!

They limited my cart to one. Would have liked two...

I agree. Would have loved to have a second one. Went back and found this on their website. :( Glad to have the one though!!!
