Amazon Echo

I bought three Echo Dots when they were $39.99 a piece. Considering sending them back as I'm not sure my intended receivers will like/use them. I can't find enough info on the internet to convince me.

So if we don't have a "smart home" can you tell me what would be great about this. I just would love to know!

I would love to know more too, the price is right for the dot that I was thinking of getting a couple while they are on sale.

I'm getting the echo dot for Christmas and I can't wait!
@Christine I don't have a smart home, I'm basically using it to control my bluetooth speakers. I listen to music alot in the kitchen and it would be nice to be able to voice control it when my hands are busy.

I bought one for my husband and one for each of my sons this Christmas. My husband and I sent one to his dad for an early Christmas present and he loves it. My mom showed me the one she had when I visited her earlier this year. They are very cool.

We needed new speakers, so decided to go ahead and get the Echo. We have Prime, so we have thousands of songs we only have to "ask" for Alexa to play. I like using the grocery app, weather app, and sports updates. My boys like asking her to make fart noises and tell jokes.

Was going to get one for our nephew but they sold out between last night and tonight. Instead he is getting the echo touch.

I want a dot as well but we do have a semi-smart home.

We have gotten 3 within the past month. We love her. We also bought a smart plugin for our Christmas trees. It's nice to tell Alexa to turn on the Christmas tree instead of climbing down there and doing it myself. I also ordered some smart light bulbs for my son's room but haven't gotten them setup yet. I can't get our nest to connect to it though but that's not a huge deal. We mostly use them for music.

I have a feeling we may receive one of these for Christmas. I'm pretty sure that nothing in our house, including us, is smart enough for something like this. DH has a Bluetooth speaker for his phone and we are Prime members. What will this thing do?

I have had an Echo since they were first released (I was lucky to win the opportunity to buy one at $99 before the actual release). I love it but without using it to control the lights, I really wouldn't use it as much. When the Dot came out (second gen), I got a couple to spread around the house. I use the one in the bedroom as an alarm. I'm looking forward to adding smart home features (thermostat, etc).

I have the echo and love it. No other smart things connected. Alexa will play any radio station, pandora, Amazon music or music from my phone. She is a kitchen timer, will tell you food measurements, the weather, and other basic info she can find online. I especially like the calendar and shopping list.when I am out of something I just tell her and she keeps track. Then the list is on my phone when I go out. Same with the calendar.
