Amazon books

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I purchased a book via Amazon. At first I was under the impression it was from the book store. Then after learning more I see that there are different sellers that sell new and used books. I bought what I was hoping was a "new, never opened book".

It arrived today. It has a black mark along the bottom, like across the closed book pages. There was a "tag" almost like a DVD/video game sensor in the middle of the pages. The book appears to be in great shape, but it just seems off. I was hoping to give it as a gift, but it just doesn't have that "new book" feel. I don't want the reciept to think I gave them a used book.

Opinions please?

:) What you probably have is a new book that was a remainder (i.e. the publisher marked it out of stock and sold it to a wholesaler). There are a lot of those dealers that sell on Amazon Marketplace. Usually they tell you in the description that the book is new but may have a remainder mark, which is that black mark you see along the bottom of the pages. Of course, if you didn't realize what a remainder mark is, that would be a surprise.

You would likely have that same mark on a book you had purchased at one of those outlet mall bookstores also.
