Amazing Race, Family Edition. *Official DiscussionThread*

Seriouly, I didn't mean to stir the proverbial pot when I came on this board today. But I have spent the better part of today going back and forth with you all and I think I have had enough. Maybe I am just stupid. (I am sure someone will have a blast with that last comment at my expense :rotfl: ). But I really do respect you all and our difference of opinions. I know you all are not judgemental people, so I know I am leaving this thread with your DIS'er support!! I'll check back in next week when things cool off. And who know's maybe the annoying hypocrites from FL will be eliminated by then :rotfl: ! I just hope it is for good reasons!!! Feel free to PM me if you'd like to chat some more!

I do not like the Weavers. The constant praying over every trivial thing IS annoying. Other teams may not be perfect, but they don't pretend to be either. I am actually starting to like the Paolo's better, which I never would have thought would happen.

Okay, you are not paying attention. I'll try again. I don't have a problem that you all don't like the Weavers. I don't like them either. I don't like the accusations that have been made about them with nothing to back them up. That is all.

And your kidding about no one else acting like or worse than the Weavers, right? Maybe we are watching two different shows for the past few seasons. :confused3

I would reply to this... but it would just be adding more fuel to the fire... But I will add one thing, I was not talking about any other seasons. I was talking about Amazing Race Family Edition.

Ugh Seems like old times, doesn't it?
I stay pretty quite most of the time, but this made me laugh loud. REALLY out loud. I've been thinking the exact same thing all day.

Me too!!!!! Ditto!

My favorite team is the Linz family (the siblings) When we could see in the rear window one of the brothers throwing their hands up in frustration when the family with 2 small kids passed them in the amish cart, as the boy was just singing away, me and DH laughed so HARD. That was one of the funniest moments in all Amazing race history for us! They seem to have a really fun attitude towards the other contestants, and that to me, signifies a good heart.. :teeth:

Oh, and the reason why I do not care for the Weavers is because once when someone asked them a question in an airport, they just walked right by them completely ignoring them. Now I can understand maybe not wanting to help anyone, but at least acknowledge someone! Say, "I don't know," or something!! Be a little (even a tad bit) friendly towards the other teams, or they will all want to yield ya...and that is exactly what happened!! :teeth:

The Weaver family never said they were "wonderful" just because they are Christians, as someone stated. That is an automatic stigma given to Chirstians. There is an attitude from few, thankfully not all, non-Christians, that when you tell someone you are a Christian, you automatically are stating that you are absolutely perfect in everyway, and that you are not capable of falling into temptation. And when you do, others have the right to call you out on the mat and make everyone aware of it. You can deny that the stigma exists, but those of us who are Christians live with it daily.

I will have to get someone on here who has Tivo to get the precise quote--but just before their sore loser antics at the yield--they said something about "because we are Christian"--yada yada yada.

I like many Christian people--but Christian or not--if you are going to be an idiot and just plain rude...then I will not like you.

YOu seem to be defending them just b/c they are Christian--and that is pretty sad. You have self admitted not watching the rest of the episodes--so no matter what we say will change your mind b/c you don't have the evidence at hand.

And you are also judging that none of us who have a problem with the Weaver family must be Christians this--since we don't understand how hard it is. How very sisterly of you.

I guess I should post in my siggy that I am a Christian--so that I won't be judged so harshly next time.

I'm going to play "devils advocate". I actually like the Weavers and haven't seen them do anything that bad. Who hasn't said anything bad about anyone? Ever? Especially when you are tired, frustrated and feeling alienated by everyone else. They said they grew up being taught to trust only God and family. We have no idea what has happened to them in their background that made them not want to trust people. Maybe that has made them close themselves off to others and not be perceived as being friendly, while they are only minding their own business. I think they fact that the mom told the other boat driver to drive slow was taken out of context. Sure she said it but do you really think the boat driver is going to drive slow because that woman told him to? It's not like she paid him money to drive slow. I don't see calling the Gaghan family rugrats as necessarily a bad thing. We always call small kids rugrats around here. It's just a nickname. No one got upset about others calling the sisters the Silicone sisters.
And who knows how long the mom was stuck in the mud? The other week on the CBS mornig show, the team that got stuck in the mud race in SC said it took them four hours to get that task done. She could have been trying to get that car out for hours and was totally frustrated.
Did anyone notice that the Weavers gave the sisters money at the airport? How kind was that? A team that is your direct competition and you help them out? No one has mentioned that.
Did anyone notice that when they prayed last night and asked for guidance to help them find their clue that they added "if it be Your will?" I have always been taught "Ask and ye shall receive."
And I think the Paolos wasted a yield. They yielded the Weavers out of spite because they didn't like them. It had nothing to do with strategy and trying to win the race. They may need that yield later to stop a close team from beating them and they wont have it to use. It did not benefit them in the least. They would have come in next to last without the yield so I think that was poor planning. I do like the Paolo dad and the mom is ok but I just can't stand the way those boys talk so disrespectfully to their parents.

Livies Mommy--I agree with everything you have posted on this thread.

People that aren't Christians-or don't have a personal relationship with God can't begin to understand about the praying thing. When I am lost, I pray. If I can't find something I misplaced, I pray. When I am frustrated, I pray. When I need guidance, I pray. I talk to God like he is my friend, and also my Father.
What the Weavers are doing, praying for help--that is a natural thing for a Christian to do.

They never claimed to be perfect. Christians swear. They get angry. They get frustrated. They get snide. I hate when non-Christians call Christians hypocrites. Every person on the earth, Christian or Non, are hypocrites. Christians just get a way harder time about it. Until you are perfect, don't call others hypocrites.

Oh my goodness!

I pray for lots of silly things a lot. However--many on here don't have a problem with the praying!

Quotes--help me with quotes guys!

There are a whole bunch more (those are only from about the last 2-3 episodes), but it's hard to remember them all. For me, these incidents are enough to shape my opinion of them. Maybe not for you. My feelings have nothing to do with them being Christians, as I am one myself.

You forgot last episode at the baseball road block---they "encourage" the other teams (I forget the rest---but in other words...we're nice to your face, but we stab you in the back with our biting tongue when you aren't around).

My husband--though it annoys me to this day---will always say "be the better person" and "let it roll off your back" and my least favorite "the only person you can change is yourself". MOst of the time I want to slug him--but he's right!

It seems right when they get angry with someone--they go on and on about what they did wrong and how it was wrong and how they'd never do something like that. And then they do.

Last I checked, not every Christian is Catholic, and not everyone was brought up in your household. The Catholic church also does not dictate how others are supposed to pray and what is or isn't allowed to be prayed for.

But Catholics are Christians.

And a muslim family wouldn't punch a sign--make fun of someone's livlihood--and do "guess who's got fake ones".

Are you serious? Nice generalization. Glad that you know every Muslim family.

I think there are Muslims in the Middle East who do FAR WORSE than call someone a "retard."

JUSTIFICATION-
something (such as a fact or circumstance) that shows an action to be reasonable or necessary; "he considered misrule a justification for revolution"
a statement in explanation of some action or belief
the act of defending or explaining or making excuses for by reasoning;

If you can't justify a belief or feeling toward something,or in this case an accusation, it has no substance. Before I can respect where someone is coming from, I just need for people to justify (see above definitions) the accusations they made toward the Weaver family. Some of you have, you just don't like them...they have a wierd personality, they are annoying, etc. I can respect that. But to say "I don't like them because they are hypocrites or sore losers or because they are rude, and then not tell me when they did any of these things leaves your opinion to question. That's all.

We have justified.

The justification just hasn't met your approval.

You don't need to respect us.

But it is hard to justify to someone who hasn't watched all the episodes.

If anything saying that you haven't seen anything that warrants this--I think you are the one that needs to show why they are so worthy of being loved.

Sore losers--they got yielded. A team said that the task was really hard---their response something to the affect of yeah, right--they just don't like us. Well can anyone deny that searching for a needle in a haystack--or in this case...1 red bean in the midst of probably hundreds of thousands of beans....is hard.

Then with every team as they tried to "encourage"---the Weavers tore them down. Didn't even wait for them to be gone---Tore them down to the ground! Then....they went in the box and pulled out each and every photo--no team has ever done this in the past....and then they had a very ugly comment to say about each and everyone (not quite the same as using a marker to make the photo a "funny" face)...including--which sister had fake ...ummm...."ladies" on her chest.

Now--how is this the definition of good sportsmanship?

In my world--this is being a sore loser (even though they technically did not lose).

Is there something they haven't done that would make them more qualified to be a sore loser?

OKay--so why don't YOU like them?

Why is it okay for you to not like them and for us it isn't okay?

Each and every season--noone has acted this catty and nasty without knowing it--they don't know they are being catty and nasty.

Who do you think is worse?

I'm also Christian (Catholic) and I don't have a problem with the Weavers praying all the time. What I have a problem with is their hypocrisy. They make a point of saying how they're such good Christians, but then they make fun of the man's job as a garbage man (sanitation worker, if you want to be PC ;) ) and say the son looks retarded. That doesn't sound very Christian to me.

Noone wanted the Weaver team ahead. I guess it was stressful to them. Had mom Gaghan been able to find the bean--the strategy would have worked beautifully.

I think the kids are getting less disrespectful of the mom and dad. Even last night--the one boy said he was proud of her. The one fight yesterday--was mostly between the brothers.

Oh come on, you really think the team yelled that to them to prepare them? They probably just wanted to psych them out. If someone tells me something is hard, the last thing I want to do is start freaking out thinking, "Oh no it's going to be hard, we're going to be last, etc."
