DH, DD10, DD7 and I took our first ever cruise from March 12-19, 2011. The seven night Eastern Caribbean itinerary on board the Disney Magic did not disappoint!

Before leaving on our trip, I was concerned by some of the negative reviews I had been reading about a drop in service levels on DCL. I can honestly say that the service we received exceeded my expectations. From our stateroom host, to our dining room servers, to every cast member we encountered, the service was top notch.

We arrived at the cruise terminal around 10:15 on Saturday morning. We waited less than 5 minutes in line to check in, and were given boading number 5. We were onboard shortly after noon.

After a quick lunch at Topsiders, we found our stateroom. We were in 6056, a verandah stateroom on deck 6 midship. This was a great room, located conveniently next to the stairs and midship elevators. We had no problems with noise from the elevators at all. The only noise we heard at night was some kind of pump running sometimes around 4:00 a.m.

We had early dinner and our dining rotation was PLAPLAP. Our servers Jelena and Gede were wonderful. They were very friendly and attentive and really added to our cruise experience. Our first dinner was at Parrot Cay.

The best part about our dining rotation was being in Lumieres for formal night. It really added to the sense of occasion. We enjoyed all of the restaurants. Our favourite menu was Pirate Night.

The entertainment onboad was fabulous. Our favourite show was Disney Dreams. We also loved Villains Tonight, Twice Charmed and all the other shows on board. We had a great time at the Pirates in the Caribbean party.

On St. Maarten, we did the "Under 2 Flags Island Tour". This was the only thing all week where we had any issues at all. The tour itself was really good, but we waited almost an hour for the bus to pick us up at the beginning of the tour. A minor issue in my opinion. At least we were standing outside on a nice sunny day, and not up to our knees in snow!!

In St. Thomas, we did the Coral World excursion. It was very good but it would have been nice to have more time at Coral World to enjoy some of the other activities offered.

By far, our favourite port of call was Castaway Cay. The beach is so beautiful and the barbecue lunch was really yummy. We rented float tubes and also went on the paddle boats. The day just seemed to fly by. I can see why people like the double dip cruises!

Our kids didn't spend very much time in the Oceaneer Club or Lab, likely because DD who will be 11 in June was really too old for the kinds of activities offered. DD7 went to the lab a few times and enjoyed it when she did go.

All in all, this was absolutely the best vacation we've ever been on! We didn't rebook on board, but definitely play to return to DCL likely in 2013 or 2014. We're waiting to see what's planned on the Disney Magic once the Fantasy arrives before we decide what to do next.

Great to hear from someone recently off the Magic! Had heard so many negatives it's nice to hear that things are still great on the Magic, we will be cruising on the Eastern Caribbean on Disney Magic in 2 weeks cant wait! Do you have the Navigators from your cruise you could post?

I'll see what I can do with the Navigators...not sure if I have access to post attachments.

I could not agree more!!! We were on the same cruise and all 14 of us had an amazing time:) We had four kids in the Ocean/Lab, 2 in the Edge and one in the vibe...as well as a 19 and 21 year old. Every kid had the trip of a lifetime and they have spent the last week talking about how much fun they had. There is truly something for everybody on that ship! The adults had as much fun as the kids and b/c the kids had so much fun we got to do lots of adult stuff. We were not sure how that would work out but once we realized the kids wanted to be with friends we signed up for some great adult things!

We had a little bit of an issue with our dining, but decided it was not worth ruining our trip! Our service was SLOW....to say the least. We had late dining and the first three nights we were still sitting at the table at 10:30. The food was ok.... in my opinion they are trying to make it all very upscale which is great, but it doesn't leave a lot for picky eaters. Our 19 year old ordered off the kid menu almost every night. But, I consider that her issue that she is not advertursome when it comes to eating..not a DCL issue. The past two cruises I have had meals that blew me away and not this time, but it was still good. We did skip dinner twice. First was Pirate Night. We knew that we would still be in there at 10:00 and didn't want to miss all the fun so we grabbed a great spot early and had a pizza/burger dinner. After a day at St. Martin nobody was oppossed to a nice casual dinner so it worked out great for us. We also ended up canceling our dinner the last night. We went by and talked to our servers and still tipped for the entire week but we just felt like we needed time to pack, wanted to go to the last show, and did not want to spend 2 plus hours at the table. Our servers were fine, they just always seemed a little lost. Never remembered who ordered what and that kind of stuff. Again, changing plates with somebody does not ruin my night but I know that some people consider that type of stuff BIG. Servers in the past have absolutely made our trip and this was not the case this time. We had Brian from South America and Pedro. Nice enough, but nothing spectacular.

Stateroom 8572 was perfect for us! Right by the stairs for the drink machine...can't beat that :) We were worried about noise but only heard a lot of noise on the last morning..which was ok, we needed to get up anyway!!! Falcon was the BEST!!! They don't get paid near enough for the work they do! We had family on the 5th floor and the 2nd floor and they all talked about how amazing the room stewards were. Apparently even though there are a bunch of new people they have the room guys very well trained!!!

Sorry to jump on your trip report :) Just wanted to reassue the previous poster that YES...there is still plenty of magic on that ship !!!!!

Can you tell me if is... http://home.comcast.net/~haaskent/Day0.PDF was the breakdown that your cruise had? I am going to be so disappointed if Villians is Formal night! :/

Thank you!!! This makes me so happy and makes so much more sense to me! I am hoping the one that was posted was a deviation to "normal". My girls LOVE to dress up and DD was was so disappointed to see Villians as formal and TC as CC.

THANKS!

We just got off the Magic (Western Mar 19-26) cruise - service and food were all fantastic!

No problems with any of our servers or anyone we came in contact with ...

I am cruising the Magic on 4/23...looking forward to it...if you get a chance let us know what things were like?

Wow - I was surprised to see that according to the link that one cruise did have Villains on Prince and Princess night. Totally weird. I always thought Twiced Charmed and Prince and Princess night menu went hand in hand. That's what we had on our 7-day in 2008. Really, it always made sense.

Now on the WBTA with all the extra nights, we actually had a Villains menu on the Villains night. Some DISer's in our group even dressed up as villains. Our table mate dressed like Cruella and she was so good!!! Those of us less adventurous decided to wear purple that night. Loads of fun!!!

Can you tell me a bit more about the Under 2 Flags tour? DH and I are thinking about taking it when we cruise in September. What time was the tour supposed to start? How many other people are on the tour? What options are there for lunch?

Thanks!
Meredith
