Amazed at home prices near Kissimmee........

i always tell my mom to invest in homes near tourist spots. she's not into the idea, but dbf and i think we'll be up for it when we're older. definitely will be looking into this area.

or we may just change our minds and just buy a vacation home for when we go haha

Last fall we purchased our home near Kissimmee. It's in a nice gated retirement community and the grounds and yards here are beautifully kept up. Other than some snowbirds (I'm one) I have no vacant houses near me. Our house is a 2 bed/2 bath/1.5 car garage on a small pond that was built in 2004 and sold for $130,000 back then. It was on the market for $124,000, we offered $90,000 and she took it. We've since heard from the prior owner and she says she wants to come back here. She moved closer to her grandkids just east of Orlando and lives in an appartment and says she's had to call the police several times since moving there. My wife and I have our own business back in New York, but I work via computer when I'm down here.

(out in the lanai with my wine and computer looking at an alligator floating offshore)

ETA: I just checked tax records here and in 2008 our house was valued at $225,000.

We have an accepted offer on a home in Davenport for $105! 4 bedroom 2 bath 2 car garage pool looks like I will start Le Cordon Bleu in July we are very excited...FINALLY get to finish that degree...

There are tons of good deals right now down here. Unfortunatley our job market isn't great. House in our neighborhood sold for 40grand. That is really depressing for us. I guess if you are at retirement age it would be a great time to move. I personally can't wait to get out of here at least for 6months of the year. I can't give up Disney completley :rotfl:

I agree 100%. Sure, the houses are dirt cheap, but the jobs are scarce. I'm west of Disney and we have similar prices, but quite a few friends are having a hard time finding jobs. I gave up on the job market and went back to school.

We bought a mobile home in Winter Haven for $4200. It's 2 bed, 1 bath, with a screened room, carport, 2 sheds, on a lake with free dock space. We pay $335 per month lot rent which includes trash and water. We went down for a week in Feb and will be heading down for 2 more weeks next month. There are no property taxes.

Eventually we will moving down permanently.

Many homes in FL have the Chinese drywall problem. The house has to be gutted to fix the problem.

True, but the inspection for that is required by law before a sale can proceed, if I'm not mistaken. I know I had one before I bought here in August, and my parents just got one on the house in Winter Garden that they're buying as well.
