Anyone else had ant problems while camping at FW? I don't have food out where they would be attracted to them. Clean sink..etc but finding these little black ants everywhere!!!:headache:

If they dont bite, just be happy. Very rare that a ant is not a fire ant down here.

kind of like having gnats versus mosquitos. both annoying but one stays with you long after the encounter.

if they do bite then that totally sucks.

Let the front desk know. Maybe they will spray/bait to help.

We stayed in 800 Loop last Oct. for 10 days and they sprayed twice around the loop, we went back the next April for 7 days and they sprayed once in the 900 loop. If you let them know I am sure they wll come and spray. Now that we are back home (Texas) we have our little friends all over our yard and we spray all the time, they say the poison goes to the queen ant, but I think she changed her diet because they keep coming back...

I buy the Black Flag or similar bait stations, they look like little plastic pyramids or domes and are available in most all home improvement and department stores. They are inexpensive at just a few dollars for a pack of 4.

Find the ant hill or hills under or around your camper and place one of the traps on the path the ants are traveling. In addition put one wherever you see the ants inside your camper. By the next day there will usually no longer be an ant problem.

Be sure any food or spills that might attract ants is cleaned up. I use zip lock bags for any opened food packages.

If you have pets make sure you follow the package directions and keep them from possibly eating one of these bait stations, they do contain chemicals that would be harmful (that's why it kills the ants).

This has always worked for me, your mileage may vary, no warranty is expressed or implied, use at your own risk.

Last year someone (on here, I'm sure) suggested using the plastic ant traps, but placing them away from your area and it would attract the ants away from you.
It could have been just dumb luck, but it really seemed to work.

Just got back a few days ago. had the ant problem also (the first time ever). I put out the traps and sprayed around every ground contact point. It still took about 2 days for them to disappear. This may be a symptom of a reduction in maintenance. We experinced several maintenance issues around all the parks & the fort (again for the first time ever). I hope to get a trip report in soon:dance3:

They may just be trying to stay high and dry. :thumbsup2 We always carry some Terro with us.

Thanks for all the replies.. we did spray... keeping open food in zip lock bags which I always do when camping anyway... only finding a few strays now! So anyone heading down in the future..... listen to all the advice given to me!! :goodvibes

Sorry to hear about the ant problem. We learned that lesson the hard way too so now when we set up the pop up one step is to sprinkle bug powder 360 degrees around anything touching the ground. Wheels, corner jacks, etc.

And we carry a can of spray for the electrical cord, water hose, and gray water hose because the little buggers use those too.

Orlando experienced a lot of rain the weekend of Oct. 8-9. The St. John's is high and supposed to peak today. It sounds like the ants are looking for higher ground. I know I see them at my house...more than normal.
We can thank the un-named storm for the ant invasion.;)
