I am a cat lover, too, but totally agree with "cat soaking'. I am friends with my neighbor and her cat comes to visit our deck and look for our inside cats. He is a great friendly cat, but attacked my dd's leg when she got between him and the door. My neighbor knows I will throw a cup of water on him if he keeps coming around.

Invisible fences also work with cats.
