....in thinking this is okay, because I'm getting some flack for it.

Here's the story.

My husband and I are taking a trip to Disneyland in February for 4 nights without the kids. I don't feel guilty because they have been 5 times in the last 3 years and with just have been there for 2 weeks this past Aug/Sept.
Some friends of mine think that I am wrong to go to a place like that without my kids. We don't have a ton of extra money right now but my husband had a $200.00 voucher that for AirCanada that he had to use up before the end of the year. So we got a smokin' good deal for the 2 of us out of Calgary round trip $430.00. We are staying at the Candy Cane Inn for $430.00. So all we have to pay for now is our food.

Anyways am I wrong in doing this...I'm not changing plans just want to know if any of you have done it or thought of doing it. We could of gone to Vegas but I don't gamble, don't party and I've been there done that.

Sorry for the ramble :rolleyes1

:goodvibes Please don't let your friends make you feel bad.
You are a couple and deserve to have time together, and honestly it's a totally different experience without kids! still magical but in a new way. taking a trip as a couple  helps keep the parents close, IMHO.

Have FUN!!!!:wizard:

Enjoy the trip. Ignore the haters.

I think it's important for your kids to see the 2 of you spending time together - it will reinforce to them that Mom and Dad still love each other - sure they might like to go along, but time away together is as important as the family vacations......my wife and I plan on going away soon just the 2 of us.....we've talked to our kids about this and they understand....they are 13 and 14 years old......and they've also been to disney 3 times in the past 2 years....they don't actually want to go back anytime soon.

I agree. Go and have a great time. My DH and I went on our Honeymoon to WDW and left my 4yo at home. We had taken her to DL less than a year before for her 4th bday.

I totally agree. DH and I have gone by ourselves without the kids 3 times in the past 2 years and are doing DCL for a week and back to WDW again this coming spring.

Our kids don't say anything to us about it, and yes they would like to go but for various reasons (mainly University) they aren't able to go. As for our friends..........well, the non-disney ones just shake their heads and don't get it and the disney friends all are wishing they were doing it.

Don't let your friends get you down! I often wonder why we have friends that make us feel bad, is that a friend? Go and have a great time!!
:goodvibes

It shouldn't make any difference to anyone where you go on your vacation. It is YOUR vacation and you should go where you feel happiest. You will have a totally different vacation at exactly the same place and it will be wonderful.

Thank-you everyone for your support. We are also planning on taking the kids back this coming summer. My one friend went last month without her kids and she couldn't believe we hadn't done it yet, and what a totally different experience it had been without the kids. I'm sure while I am there I will miss them as I do whenever we go away without them. The people that are giving me a hard time are people that have never gone away from their kids so I'm sure part of the reason is because they are jealous that they can't do the same thing.

Anyways only 48 more days:cool1:

We just had an anniversary trip at WDW for 4 days without our kids and it was sooo relaxing. With the kids we are usually on the go all of the time but this time we spent alot of time relaxing by the pool, got up early and took walks around the resort and only went to a park once. You will enjoy Disney in a whole different way...have fun!

I agree. Dh and I went to WDW in April without our three kids. It was so fun just being able to drink lots of wine stay out late and eat at all the signature restaurants at our leisure! Have fun!!!

Go and have a fabulous time. DH and I went to WDW two summers ago when the DD's left for camp for two weeks. They knew that we were going and they were okay with it. They had just been there for spring break. Also when they saw all the "grown-up" things that I had planned they were not all that thrilled.
Enjoy your quality time together.:thumbsup2

There's absolutely no problem with this. Alone time is extremely important for couples.

The *PROBLEM* is theirs in that they see Disney ( Land OR World ) as a KIDS place. They don't *get* it. And don't let them! There is so much to do for people of ALL ages ( and people with a kid still inside them :) )

We did the same thing in 2006 but at DisneyWorld. We had been in March with not only the kids, but also my parents, brother, aunt + kids, cousin + kids. And we'd always said we wanted to go just the two of us. It was one of the best times we've ever had! We went around DW's birthday ( in October ) and got to enjoy the Food and Wine festival, MNSSHP ( Yes we even did THIS without the kids! ) and because our young kids weren't with us, we were able to easily hop over to Universal to do the Halloween Horror Nights too! We had an amazing time and don't feel bad at all. They had gone before, they have been again SINCE, and they will go again!

Went on a no kids trip last year, plan on doing it again. Even tortured my kids by phoning them from the rides :rotfl:

Splash mountain for my youngest (15) and phoned my oldest (17) from Its A Small World so he wouldn't miss out on the song (he realllly doesn't like the ride).

It could be the most relaxing Disney trip you will ever have. I know the kid free trips I've taken to see Mickey are totally different, not better but equally enjoyable! Have Fun.

DH and I took our first "parents only" trip this summer. It was really nice to explore the adult side to WDW. We also had some naysayers and had looked at other options but price-wise, WDW was still a better value.

It was our first alone trip in 12 years and it was great. Enjoy yourselves!

We went to Disneyland one year WITHOUT my 8 (at the time) year old daughter. Had a blast.

Have a great time on your trip. I have no kids but I have been to DL 4 times with my husband and 1 time to DW with him. I am sure it will be a completely different and FUN experience!
