Am I Wrong?

That's sad. :(

I'm a little surprised they had Santa there at all at a regular school. Our school does Santa pics (and they are cheap, thank goodness) but not during school hours. They do it at a family fun night that is specifically Christmas oriented, so that children whose parents don't want to participate for any reason don't have to deal with sad children who got left out at school.

For children that young? I think it's flat out mean..

I would have to agree. I work with children who come from low income families and this would break their hearts, not to mention make the parents angry. All children should be able to see santa:santa: no matter how small their pocket books might be. Just my opinion:)

I'd like to know how they explained to your precious little one that she couldn't see Santa? How did they deal with her disappointment?

This just smacks of greed all the way around. Sounds like you need to have a little group chat with the teacher, principal, and a member of the school board. Or perhaps call a local news station advocate & see how the school would like this piece of info shared with the community at large!

I agree. I might have to make a call or two just to let them know how mean.

I understand wanting to go after the allmighty buck, but seriously. What evil step-sister was the one who told the little 4 year olds that they could'nt see Santa???

Just to make this perfectly clear...this is through our school district!

DD is in Pre K through our school district, not a day care.

She's 4, she can't tell me exactly how many in her class of 15 did or did not see him. She did say that she could see him when she went to the bathroom, he was by the gym.

I have to say that I find it even more unusual that they are having Santa pics at school, at all, unless it's a private school, which it doesn't sound like it is.

and how about the kids who don't subscribe to believing in Santa - Jews, Muslims, Jehovah's Witnesses...to have that thrown in their faces.

few other people said it - I'm completely shocked that a public school system, which normally has to be very non-denominational and PC would even consider having Santa come to school...

I think it's strange that there were pictures with Santa to begin with. Was it a public or private school? Either way, bringing Santa into a school setting should be for fun! These are kids and it's the holidays. But disrupting the school day so kids could PAY for a picture with Santa?! That's crazy! I've never heard of doing that in a school.

That's sad. :(

I just had to quote all these other people to say that I too can't believe they had Santa at a public school! I'm not against it at all! I think it's great(although I think they all should have been allowed to see him, photo purchase or not).....but I'm just shocked that your school did this. You know, we don't have "Christmas" parties or "Christmas" break, it's a "winter" party, etc....but now Santa can come? Wow!

my kid's elementary school and the school I worked at last year both have Santa come for pictures. Honestly, it's not that big a deal. They send the notice home ahead of time, parents send the money in. I was in a 5K class last year. Out of 25 kids only 6 or 8 got their pictures done. All they did was the pics, nobody got to talk to Santa. They were in and out in less then 5 min. The kids in the classroom weren't upset that they didn't get to go, they never even mentioned it. This was a Title 1 school, the majority of the school didn't get Santa pictures. It was a non-issue as far as the kids were concerned.

What about the kids that couldn't afford pictures today and can't afford to go to a mall Santa? What must these kids think?

I don't agree with what they did at all that was terrible.
Mall santas here are free-if you want your picture taken you pay but any kid can go up and sit on their lap and tell them what they want for christmas for free

My daughter goes to public school and every year the principal dresses up like santa and goes room to room handing out candy canes to the kids. This year we are having a night time holiday fair and Santa will be there- we are not charging for pictures though, parents can bring their own cameras and take pictures if they want.

Is this a public school? I'm really surprised they would be allowed to bring in a santa considering that would be connected to a "religious" holiday. The one year our school system went pyscho and insisted nothing say Christmas...not a Christmas music program; it had to be a winter program. Not a Christmas party but could be a winter holiday party. Not Christmas vacation, it was a winter break that just happen to include Christmas.

Maybe someone at the school did object to having Santa pictures at a public school, got shot down, and was appeased by the rule that kids who didn't buy pictures wouldn't get to see Santa (so that presumably parents who objected to their child sitting with Santa would opt out that way). Too bad that would keep all the non-paying kids out, not just the ones from families who prefer not to have their kids visit with Santa.
In any case I think it was a bad idea. And I think one picture day per year is enough anyhow!
