Am I Wrong?

We stayed at FW Cabins a couple of weeks ago and had a great time (love those golf carts!). Am I wrong, though, I thought that the campfire program with c/d was for FW and other Disney resort guests? When I got my packet, that was my understanding, plus the guard was so picky (we did not go thru the automatic key card gate once and he insisted on id and resort card, plus the resort card on the dash). I would not tell someone they could not go (not my job), but other posters telling folks they can come from offsite and do this, when, in fact, they cannot, seems inappropriate. TIA.

I wouldn't say you're wrong but I doubt this is a big problem at the fort. Unless it get's to be a big deal I will worry with other fish I need to fry lol.

I am not trying to start an arguement, but I don't see why they would limit it to just resort guests? I have stayed offsite many times and always made it to the sing a long. I just park in the overflow lot and walk to the bus stop. There is plenty of room for people to sit and some even bring their own chairs. The chuckwagon is open and selling items to everyone so disney is still making money off of the non resort guests. I don't think it is a big deal. We spend our down days traveling to other disney resorts, such as the boardwalk, just to look around. Does that mean that we can't watch the street performers? Ice cream is on our list there, so disney is still getting a little of my money. I think disney promotes the idea of nonsite guests to tour their resorts in hopes that in future visits, the people will want to stay onsite. I think all should be welcome to the sing a long!

I just wondered, since the guard made such a big deal about letting us enter and we were guests at the very same resort. I would hate for kids to think they were going to see c/d and then their parents were not permitted entrance. If the cm had not specifically stated that the campfire was included with other activities for "resort guests" (her words, not mine), I would have assumed it was fine.

It seems that security was pickier this stay than even last year, but that was JMO.

I've never heard of such a thing! I thought that "recreation & entertainment" at ALL resorts were open to ALL WDW guests (except pools, of course!).

It would be like saying you couldn't go to the Poly to see the show unless you were a Poly guest.

Or you could only see the Electric Light Parade if you were a guest at the appropriate resort.

Or to the WL to see the geyser.

Or use the Boardwalk, unless you were a guest.

That doesn't make any sense to me .... it has ALWAYS been my understanding that these activites were open to all, and not to just that particular resorts' guests.

I think you had a CM that was not trained properly.

You were trying to get into a traffic controlled area, when outside guest visit for the campfire show they do not go through the gaurd gate and park in the overflow lot. After that they must use internal buses to get where they are headed. The overflow lot does not have a guard/security gate, but it also does not permitt access to the campground using your own car, only Disney buses.

Thanks, Maggie, that would seem to be a solution to any problems. I mentioned it to DH and he said the same thing.

I think that may be part of the reason they are so fussy about who they let in. There are a lot of people visiting the Fort for legit reasons other than staying there, but once you go through the guard gate, it is easy to drive into the campground, and there isn't anywhere to go! People looking for the campfire/hoop dee do/pony rides/horseback riding might turn into the first gate, not realizing there is another parking lot just past.

We always used our key card. It was usually fast.

Why would a non-FW guest drive to FW and enter the CG? There is no parking lot inside FW for the general public. :confused3 I have no problem with any WDW resort guest attending a FW event, look at Hoop Dee Do, I think most of those people are from outside resorts.

.

I bet plenty of locals go there every now and then to have dinner, look around, etc. (Trails End, HDD, campfire or what not), I know I would...but alas, I'm stuck here in NC.

Why? Because at almost every other Disney Resort there is only one parking lot and only one way to get in to it, through the gaurd gate. Unfortunatly it is not widly know(aside from regulars at the Fort) that FW has a parking area that doesn't require you to enter through a gg and that there is no parking inside the CG for outside visitors.

Not like the parking lot and the guard gate are a problem if you want to go . Just hop the boat from magic kingdom . They dont check ID's . BUT the sing a long and movie are amenities or perks of WDW resorts and CG guest that is funded by your stay . I dont think its an open form of entertainment for anyone in Orlando but its not my job to police it. All this is strictly opinion and I will neither confirm or deny that I really said or believed anything I just typed .:rolleyes1

edit: I think its also important to note the OP was not asking about guest of other WDW resorts but about non WDW resort guest .Seems some posters have taken what they said wrong ( I think)

It's my understanding that it is open to anyone staying at any of the WDW resorts. Not sure about people visiting the parks.

I would only have a problem with non resort members attending if it got to be so crowded that FW guests weren't able to get seats.

I can see how people living in Orlando might find this a fun, free thing to do on the weekends. One person tells another and before you know it...the campfire program is packed with people. I don't think it is intended for that.

But as someone else said...it isn't my job to police it. I am sure if it got to be a problem WDW would find a way to moniter it.
