Hi,
I purchased a lot of fisher price and other farm animal figures on Ebay. Well, I received them today and they are filthy. I mean like nasty..yuck. Food stains, dirt and who knows what else on them. Now, I wasn't expecting anything new but I wasn't expecting filth either. There is nothing in my house as dirty as these toys are. I wouldn't dream of sending them to someone in this condition.

Anyway, I contacted the seller and she is willing to take them back but not sure I'm going to bother since it was only a couple of dollars. I probably shouldn't have even contacted her but I just had to.

Her response was as follows:

"look......i sell things as is...and if i were buying something from someone that i didn't know....i'd make sure i sanitized and cleaned them before i'd let my kids play with them..sorry your disappointed..if you don't want them just send them back...i'll refund your money."

I guess my question is am I being unreasonable? Should I have assumed that because they were used it is okay that they arrive with crud on them. Also, I'm not sure what to do regarding feedback. I wont to leave her a negative since she is willing to refund my money but I'm not crazy about leaving her a positive either.

Any thoughts? Thanks!

Give her a neutral rating - I have been selling a lot on Ebay lately and everything that I sell I make sure it is in clean and exactly as described. I would NEVER send something to another child that I wouldn't allow my chikld to play with.

That being said, you could probably give the toys a good scrub and they would come out looking like new......

That is just plain nasty. Shows how lazy some sellers have become. Give 'em a good scrub. Did she leave feedback for you yet. If yes, then I would definetely leave neautral for her and mention the filth. If she hasn't left feedback I'd wait. You don't want to burn any bridges ya know LOL.

Now if she had stated that they are dirty and unwashed that would be different..its up to you if you want to try to clean them and see how they look and then wait until she leaves you feedback and leave her a neutral

What did the items look like? Did she have pics of them and describe them in her auction?

I don't know if I would neg/neu her as she will probably zing you back with a neg. If she has already left FB for you, then you need to decide what to do. Howver, she did offer you your money back so I'm not sure what you could say besides mentioning the cleanliness of the item.

Not trying to flame you, just wondering what the item description said. Also you say that you don't know why you contacted her and that you probably won't send them back since they were inexpensive. I'm just curious what resolution you expected from your email.

My opinion is that items should be sent in the cleanest possible way, but many people on eBay say that as is means as is and that means to look at the pics carefully.

Good luck whatever you decide to do!

I have sold items that were dirty on Ebay (but I don't think as dirty as you are describing), but I always mention in my auction if they need a bath, have pen marks, etc. I believe in giving full descriptions so that there aren't any surprises on the buyers end.

I could be wrong, I haven't been ebaying that long, but I thought it was ebay policy that items be washed? Or maybe that's just clothes... Anyway, if she didn't state that they were dirty in her listing I think that's misrepresentation, even if it says "as is", that doesn't mean "dirty", it means that they won't fix whatever's wrong with them, it still doesn't tell what exactly is wrong with them. Since she did offer a resolution I wouldn't give her neg. feedback, either a neutral or positive (but still mention the dirtiness in your statement).

Her auction never mentioned that they were dirty, just that they were used. The pictures in no way showed how filthy they were. I expected knicks and marks on them as that is to be expected with toys that have been played with. What I received is beyond that and not noted in her auction.

I contacted her because I wanted to let her know that I am not a happy camper. I suggested that in her future auctions she should be more specific with her description as to avoid this kind of situation - no more no less. I'll just chalk this one up to just one more bad ebay experience. At least it wasn't a costly one :)

Thanks for your response!

I would send them back and leave a neutral....item arrived but in very poor/dirty condition, but she did refund. YUCK!

So, you have my curiosity up--can you provide a link to the auction.

I recently did a similar thing in contacting a seller as far as after I sent it not being sure what resolution I wanted, just saying I was not impressed. Not unimpressed enough to leave a neg, but the shipping was well over $2 more than it cost to ship it and it was just in a padded envelope. She did offer to refund a portion of shipping.

This is a hard one. I guess maybe that is the chance you take but it sure would have taken me by surprise too.

While I agree that I'd be cleaning anything I bought on ebay I also think its gross she could spend the time soaking them in bleach water or something to clean them off. Toys get that way but still its nasty and she should have cleaned them up some.

I hate when I had paid a whole bunch for shipping and it was obviously cheaper since you can see what the shipping was. I know they want to make a profit but thats what I hate about ebay some really good deals but theres a lot of stuff you'd pay more or the same as you can pick up at a store after that shipping is included.

Yuck! I agree with everyone above that's disgusting to sell something like that. :earboy2:
You can put them in the dishwasher and hopefully that will clean them and sanitize them at the same time. It's always worked with my kids toys.
