Am I wrong for feeling this way? Venting.

I think what is raising eyebrows is that you cannot afford to pay your bills and AI can be expensive. So people are just commenting on that. And I suppose you can look as SSD as an insurance policy, but it's an insurance policy for you, not for future children. In that instance it does seem more like the government is supporting your child in that aspect.

I said in my post in the TTC thread that I have NOT tried since November 2011. I ALSO said I am not currently in the right financial place to have a child. Funny how that wasn't brought up.

Oh, and for the record.. SSD is not considered government assistance. Things like Medicaid, welfare and food stamps are government assistance. I do not collect any of that. You pay into SSD every time you collect a paycheck. It's like an insurance policy.

I'd like to see any one of you get hurt, or become sick and someone tell you that you no longer deserve the right to procreate because you are now a considered a second class citizen.

How come those of us who are self-supporting have to make responsible financial decisions about the size of our family...but if you get government assistance you don't? The size of my family was determined, in part, on what my husband and I could afford (of course, there were other factors as well....but certainly finances was a big part of our discussion). Children are not cheap.

Frosts me to read things like this. But, as I said before, anyone who can afford (emotionally and financially) to support the number of children they want should go right ahead and have them! And, I'm not talking about people needing to be wealthy. My idea of financial support is a roof over your head, and food on the table. Anything else is just gravy.

And my cable bill is nowhere near a couple of hundred dollars.

No, one cable bill is not but 6 months worth is. If you give it up for just a few months you will be able to save a lot to have an emergency fund. We don't have cable or even the set up to recive loval stations and I don't miss it at all.

OP, stop, it isn't worth it. THe judgment police are just that. OMG how can you do this, I wouldn't. Well, you do what is good for you! If you want a child, go for it. If every person waited to be able to afford their kids, we would die off or the 1 percenters would totally take over :rotfl2:.

Good luck with your job, and I hope you kick that moocher to the curb!

AMEN! My thoughts exactly. OP, run for the hills, these vultures will not stop...this is their life, judging others because they are so perfect and pure.

I wish you the best of luck and hope you keep your cable and movie station!!!!

Oh please. It's a message board. A place where things get discussed. Many times a thread morphs into a different direction. Just because people start stating their opinions doesn't mean they are vultures.

So you're trying to say that disabled people shouldn't have children? Because that seems like what you're implying.

Disabled people should have as many children as they want and can afford without a check from the government. I believe people who become disabled should have help. I don't believe they should bear children with additional help from the taxpayers.

I will admit to coming back and forth to this thread so, I have not read everything. But I do have to ask OP, with your medical needs would there be burdens on future children because of your health issues. That would be my concern.

I didn't have children when I can afford them, stuff happens. Its great to have a plan but sometimes God's plan takes a front seat. I would just be concerned that your disabilities, health issues are forever since your are disable under SS and that would be an issue I would not want my children to have to worry about.

I think people should have as many children as THEY can support. I don't care whether you are disabled or run marathons. If YOU (NOT the government) can support your child, financially and emotionally, go right ahead and have children. If, however, your means of support is the government, then, no, you cannot afford children and should not have them.

It is one thing to fall upon hard times when you already have children, and therefore need to rely on the government for a short while in order to support your family. But, to TTC when you cannot support yourself without government assistance is just plain wrong. It is part of the entitlement mentality that is driving this country into bankruptcy. And, just for the record, I am a liberal person in my politics. I am generous to a fault. But, even I have problems with people continuing to make children when they cannot even financially support themselves.

Guys please. The OP has said she's not tried for a kid since Nov 11, so leave it out. She's not asking for judgement about how she lives her life, just some reassurance that she's not being unreasonable about the moocher.

I'm proud of the fact that she wants to try and work with her disability, and hope that she has success getting a job soon, whether it be Disney or not. I know too many 'disabled' who don't even try.

Some of you need to take a cold hard look at yourselves and your perfect world. God forbid that yours should be shattered!

I'm not directing this towards you, but I see this a lot so I wanted to respond.
I've never really gotten the point of this type of response. How does anyone know what people may be going through? they could very well be going through some trying times but just doesn't share that. It doesn't mean they can't have an opinion. I'm sure there a many people on these boards that have just as hard of a time as the OP may have but that doesn't mean they have to agree with her.

I've been paying into Social Security for over 38 years & will be for at least the next 10 too. Our government officials & the press are now calling Social Security an "entitlement" and form of government assistance. Even after paying into it for almost 50 years by the time I retire, I'm still hearing how I'm going to be a drain on the economy. If SS I paid into is government assistance, so is SSD.

This is not a personal attack. But when you write something like, "This is going to be the last time I answer anymore questions." and say that you're leaving the topic and not coming back, you need to stick to that, or you come off as someone who's just stoking the fire.

I know that you're reading things that make you mad and you feel like you need to justify yourself, but you don't. You don't know anyone here -- no one here knows you. It's the equivalent of walking into a room full of strangers and telling everyone your personal history and expecting them all to totally and completely understand all the nuances and reasonings from the limited info you've provided. It's impossible. And really ... what do you care what any of us think? We're total strangers who don't know you or your situation other than what you tell us. You posted a personal rant on a public message board, and it took on a life of its own. Let it go.

Your first instict was right -- you need to stop answering questions and just let the thread fade away.

As a PS. ... there's also a lot of Disney CMs who read this board, and as you've applied for a Disney job, it might be wise to hold back a little until you find out if you have that job or not. You've provided a lot of personal info, and you don't necessarily need for everyone at your potential new employer to know all your business. (Which is the reason I don't Facebook! :upsidedow)

:earsboy:

If you can't stand (according to you), what type of position would you be eligible for at Disney?
:offtopic: Sorry ... just to clarify ... Disney has a large contingent of "differently-abled" CMs among its 65,000 workers in Florida. People who cannot stand for long periods of time have many options -- everything from sitting in storerooms putting batteries in glowsticks (boring, but ... it pays an hourly wage) to secretarial work, record-keeping, file sorting, reservations CM and other more-or-less "seated" work. In a wheelchair, a Disney CM can handle being a greeter, turnstile CM (ask Cheshire Figment!), character host, trainer, parade crowd control, Kidcot host, attractions host, and dozens more.

Lots of jobs for folks of all different abilities, and Disney prides itself on the diversity of its workforce.

I just wanted to post that I agree!! You can't come on to a public discussion board and post personal information and expect there not to be a variety of opinions - many which you won't agree with and that may offend you (and probably others). People aren't afraid to say anything when they are in an anonymous situation. And say anything they do!! :lmao:

That makes me happy!! Yea Disney!!!

OP, I'm sorry some people are being so rude. It says everything about them and nothing about you. Don't sweat it.

I wanted to make sure you knew about the medicaid spenddown program. It's for people receiving SSD who haven't got medicare yet (along with other qualifying adults and children). If your medical bills in one month exceeds that month's income (includes doctors, er, inpatient, tests, etc, but not meds), you qualify. Medicaid will pay all or a portion of your medical bills. You apply though your local DCBS office. I just got laid off from a job where I screened and assisted people with this.
