Am I the only one out there that begins the family vacation planning process with the following statement: Maybe we'll do something other than Disney this year. Then gradually you progress to: Well, let's go to Orlando, but we'll stay offsite and do other things. Next thing you know, you're booked for a week at BWV with length of stay passes!!!

My DS who will be 6 in June will have celebrated 3 of his 6 birthday's at WDW! He doesn't know that Mickey and the gang don't go to every kid's birthday party!

Anyway, just wondered if anyone else found themselves doing the same?

But next year, we're going somewhere else! (maybe!)

Naw!! Actually we have gone non-Disney several times - but we did exactly what you said this year! We were going to Williamsburg and Charleston - but as I started trying to figure out where to go and what to do and realized all the driving involved and the high cost of gas.... my DH said - Let's just go to Disney! And we jumped on it!!

Yep! We do it all the time! I will start researching another location, get info sent to me, start discussions with dd15, and then she will say....."Mom, let's go to WDW instead!"

OK!

We're guilty of this exact thing. We rationalize our way to Disney almost every single time. Why the heck don't we just give in completely and quit kidding ourselves.

Several years ago - and I mean about 8 or 9 years ago, we decided to "do something different." So, we planned a beach trip. We live in NC and have wonderful beaches within a 3 1/2 - 5 hour drive. Well, two weeks before our trip I woke up one morning, raised straight up out of the bed and said, "We can't miss the party." It was the 25th anniversary celebration that I was referring to and the funny thing is my husband knew just what I meant. He said, "lets book Disney instead."

It was hilarious. We've gone through this exercise a couple of times since then. We do take trips to places other than Disney - but they are shorter trips or trips associated with business where we add some "pleasure" to the business trip.

I'm glad to hear we're not the only ones.

I wish! Whenever we start our vacation planning, it's always the same--Outer Banks, NC. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but if it wasn't for that beach trip planned for May/June, I could go to WDW this year like I want to!

But, since we're coming from Ohio, and driving to Orlando is NOT an option (did that once, never again), especially now that we have two kids, I have to take what I can get.

Nags Head, here we come this year.

My husband and I considered going on vacation by ourselves for our tenth anniversary. That lasted for about a day. We ended up with an 8 day trip to Disney!! There is no place else we'd ratehr celebrate.

YES!!!! Every year I say lets do something different...My husband always says "whatever" I guess he has gotten used to hearing me say that and then saying I really can go a whole year without going to WDW!! I am glad I am not the only to do this. I am going to tell my husband asap so that so knows I am NOT crazy or at least I am not alone!!!!!

That fits me to a tee!

DH asks why I put him in this personal hell. :p

I go from one thing to another . . .I first started out with going to Williamsburg/Hershey Park this Summer . . .then DH found out how long of a drive it was going to be and he has his precious Jeep Liberty, blah blah blah . . .

So then I said, ok . . .then we'll just go back to WDW instead.:teeth:

I told him . . .let's just face it . . .for now, we're going to WDW yearly.:hyper:

we were in disneyland last year as part of a california trip, wanted "something" different this year. started as maybe we will go with DS and go to an island, barbados? aruba? then I kept coming back to wanted to take my son so we thought o.k. a cruise. then off course it was disney cruise.. but the only vacation I ever took that wasn't fabulous was a cruise so we were reluctant. also, wasn't sure about a boat for a week with a very active 5 yo. so then it was let's just do 4 days on the wonder and go to WDW. but the wonder 4 days start on a sunday and we wanted to vacation from a friday to a monday so it would put the cruise in the middle...so finally, it was why don't we just to to WDW and add on Universal.

If I started a vacation conversation wiith "Let's do something different, my family would faint!! Actually, my husband started talking about this trip at AKL on the second day of our vacation while we were swimming........Can't beat Disney!!:Pinkbounc

That's what I love about these boards - non one thinks you're crazy! Every year we say we'll skip Disney next year and go somewhere else, but we always end up at...you guessed it...WDW! I love to travel and my husband is willing to try some new destinations, but only if it doesn't preclude his annual Disney adventure. We had to travel to Japan for a family wedding in 2001 and New Orleans shortly after for a graduation, so we figured there'd be no Disney trip that fall. Then, we got a postcard - couldn't pass up the awesome rate, so it was back to Disney in October!

...umm, ..I think it's called addiction; we're all suffering from it. That's why we're on these boards--there's no 12-Step Program to get out of it!!!

Oh yes. It was a one time thing. Period. Then we saw the great atmosphere and how clean and well kept everything was. We knew we wouldn't go back to WDW, but decided to do the cruise, since we knew it would be so nice and friendly. But then we were done. No more Disney. Until we decided to see the great American southwest. After a lengthy researching of national parks and historic sites, my DH said, "Why aren't we going to Disney Land also?" So in between the Grand Canyon and Pikes Peak, it was the Matterhorn and Splash Mountain. But no more Disney, probably. So now we have a trip planned for this winter to WDW. But that will be it.....except I did recently receive the planning information for DisneyLand Paris...hummm......

Yes.;) We usually do a quick weekend Jan or Feb every year...and it ALWAYS starts off something like this:

"Let's do a quick weekend somewhere warm! Maybe the Caribbean, maybe Mexico...don't want to cross too many timezones for a quick weekend! But the airfares to Orlando are SOOOOO good and LOOK! Codes just came out...why, we'll be SAVING money! St. Thomas can wait...;)"

Are there other vacation options other than disney? I'll have to check that out. Actually this year Ive had enough of the same old trip and we did decide to be rebellious and do something different just to get a different flavor in once in a while. Something with a strong atmosphere such as a trip to the caribbean or maybe a trip to the great northwest to get back in touch with nature. So after really getting into those ideas we did the obvious! Thats right, we split this years vacation between the caribbean beach resort and the wilderness lodge. Doing something different really is cool. In all seriosness though, next year we will definitely change and go a different route altogether. Maybe a nice long cruise... Yep, let me check out the disney cruise line website right now...

Everytime I plan a Disney trip I promise dh that we'll do something different next year!;) He likes WDW, just not as much as ds and I do! Anyway, I'm afraid after this year he's going to hold me to the "doing something different" promise! I'll be ok with it, really I will---until our usual December week rolls around and we're not going! I don't even want to think about it yet!

The way we handle this is to try to do WDW COMBINED with another trip, so we are "justifying" seeing other things, but also getting a WDW fix (we bought DVC last year so I'm sure we will be going once a year to WDW). This year we are doing WDW for 5 nights, and then flying from Orlando to Ft. Lauderdale ($39 on Southwest!) and driving to Key West and spending 5 nights there. Its perfect because we are going somewhere new, but also not missing WDW. Next year I already have thought of maybe combining WDW with Hilton Head (DVC has a resort there).

My husband is the one who always wants to do something different, and I would rather stay home than do anything different. He wants to go somewhere different this year, but i'll bribe him into going somehow. Maybe we'll wait & save $$$ for next year. I have been to Disney at least 17 times since I was born and have never stayed "on disney". I'm gonna do it next trip I take down there though!

::yes::

There's no place like home, there's no place like home, there's no place like home.........

We always do the same thing too!!! We say everytime, lets go to Disney and try something else.... a different resort....Universal.....Seaworld.....but regardless of what to do there's this Magical power (Like the kid in all of us) that pulls you back to Disney and the resorts!

We just love it - :lovestruc :lovestruc :lovestruc , who could ask for anything more?

Won't be long for us!!!!

Well let's see:rolleyes:

End of February my best friend and I wanted to get together for a short trip away from hubbys and kids. We planned a gulf beach trip to Sarasota. About a week before the trip we heard it would be a little cold. In about an hour we were cancelled and rebooked in Disney.

This summer, hubby and I decide we will take the kids to Hilton Head (DVC) instead of Disney World. We start reading and planning, I'm thinking...O.K. I can live with this, not going to DW one summer. The it happens:eek: We get the 7 for 4 postcard. Well, it's like having a golden ticket. Next thing you know forget Hilton Head, we are going to the Poly!LVC!!!

Tammy
Oh, and P.S. we are taking my extended family to VWL for Thanksgiving. But we didn't pretend otherwise first!!!
