Am I the only one...

Not at all. I haven’t seen it yet, but I know several people who enjoyed it.

I liked it. I mean I am not just busting to see it again but I didn’t find it bad or boring. I liked it as well as the first one which my favorite part is the theme song 😂.

But I like a lot of the remakes. A lot of people didn’t like the new Karate Kid with Jaden Smith. I loved it. It was nothing like the original and that was ok. But I like Jackie Chan and the Smith family.

And I have liked most of the Disney live action remakes, retellings of the stories, etc. Dumbo comes to mind as one some hated. I liked it.

No, I liked it a lot. But then I love Kate McKinnon in almost anything and I found Chris Hemsworth to be a nice addition too.

When was it released? They filmed part of it on location at a school directly across the street from my house but I think it was only a couple of months ago. Did they finish the movie and release it that quickly?

The movie came out at least two years ago.

I think they're thinking of the newer one coming out next year. They already put out a tiny teaser for it. IMDB page: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4513678/

I actually LOVED the ghostbusters newer film. The cast was top notch! Even my husband who is an old school GB fan loved it.

Thanks. Yes - it's definitely Ghost Busters and was definitely filming this summer. I'm not sure which "number" it is because I know nothing about the franchise itself.

I didn't see it. The trailer made it look terrible. I somehow ended up with it free on digital, and I still haven't watched it. One day!!! I like the cast, but wasn't a fan of the trailer.

The numbering is weird because the one from a few years ago (2016) is an AU and doesn't continue the story of the original so I don't think they gave it a number officially. I think audiences of things have trouble understanding AU's.

Remake: Same plot. Almost all things same except visuals/cast.
Reboot: Most details the same Very similar script maybe minor changes. Can exist with a new cast in the same world as the original film took place but they'll be telling the same story.
Alternate Universe: Similar elements, physics and ideas. Major themes and mood the same but exists in a different reality. Think of Miles Morales Spiderman as opposed to regular Peter Parker. That's an AU. AU's can cross over.
Sequel: Always exists in the same universe at a later point in time. Can be same cast or different, can rehash old themes. Events of the first movie have occurred.

The one being referenced was more a reboot/reimagining with an all female main cast. It's not tied into the original series other than the concept. It did have some cameos from cast members from the original Ghostbusters.

I saw in on Netflix as the trailer put me off. If it was going to be a new one with women why not make it new instead of pretty much a rehash of the first Ghostbusters. Wacky scientists check, getting sacked check, a black street smart character with blue-collar job check sexy office staff check. The only character that didn't get copied was Rick Moranis's character. It did though suck a lot less than the crappy Captain Marvel movie.

Same deal for me. They gave it away digitally when they switched from Disney Movies Anywhere to just Movies Anywhere. I still won't watch it as it never looked good to me anyway and the filmmakers went into it in a completely wrongheaded way. Granted that doesn't mean that it's a "bad" movie but it does make me 100% not interested in it. The movie has a weird and sordid history and I won't explain it all here, but it's basically an unnecessary film.
