That Disney should offer a discount on a hotel if they are in the process of renovating? I suppose it all comes down to supply and demand and people are willing to pay. However, last March we stayed at POR and received a letter in the mail when it was too late to change hotels that let us know that the entire food court was closed throughout our stay.

This time we booked CSR because CBR has closed it's main pool area and the letter said that CSR is closing the slide during our stay.

The slide is one thing, but the entire main pool and kiddie pool and a whole food court is a big deal.

It doesn't seem fair to pay full price.

That makes a lot of sense to me.

When you booked, did they warn you of the refurbishment? I know that when I originally booked the Contemporary, I heard over and over again that the tennis courts (and some other stuff I wouldn't be using) would be under construction.

I still think a price cut would be nice, but at the very least they should ensure that people booking are aware of the construction.

I guess that is my biggest gripe! When we booked we had the option of all the moderates being available. Then after we received the letter saying the food court was going to be closed the only other option was CBR.

I was not told that anything would be closed when we made this reservation either.

I see a lot of people booking at a hotel undergoing renovations because of the discounted price... fair warning and an offer to switch hotels for roughly the same cost is enough for me. :)

OP, I totally agree with you. I've had my reservations at CSR for over a year. I've been on the phone countless times upgrading my trip etc... and not once was it ever mentioned about the slide rehab during my stay. Very frustrating. I think we at least deserve a few bucks off. Part of the reason we chose this resort is for the pool and slide. And the slides are one of the things that set mods apart from values. I'm feeling rather disgruntled at the moment. Bahumbug.

Well, not everyone uses a pool and a slide. So those things wouldn't bother me at all. But I would get a price cut because of the closure of two things that I don't even use? Even a food court closing wouldn't bother me.

I guess not everyone is in the same boat. Sure - I'd love a discount just because things I don't use are closed or under refurbishment. Then, I would book there and not somewhere else just for the discount. Even though it doesn't matter to me at all.

If not a discount, then most certainly notification of planned work before you book your resort.

I realize that sometimes something just comes up and emergency work must be done. But if the OP is planning a June vacation in Florida, and the work was planned several months ago, it seems only fair to let her know before booking that the pool and slide will be out of commission. It would have given her the chance to change her mind and book at a resort where the pool and slide would be operable. Had they told you the same thing the same day, you might have chosen to book anyway.

As they say, "Knowledge is power."

Originally, I had our trip planned to stay at AKL, but they told me construction was going on and all that and I'm just not in the mood to listen to jack hammers and all that while I'm on vacation. Plus, I ended up saving a whole lot of money by staying my ASMo & POR! More money for toys!!

If you don't pay normal price because of the refurbishments, someone else wil and I guarantee you that's their thinking. That and if they offer discounted rooms for the "inconvenience", then I see it selling out and they wouldn't make as much money as if those same people stayed at another moderate resort.

I've heard of free upgrades and stuff like that when you check in or while you're staying and you gripe, but that's about it.

It's Disney folks...there's enough people around that they don't need to discount things because there's always going to be someone there to use the services.

This is true, but when part of what your paying for is missing, there's a problem there. I suppose an upgrade would be a more likely solution like a previous poster suggested. Hey, I'll take that.

This is exactly right. You should have the information so you can make the best choice for your family, based on whether the reduced amenities will impact your trip. I was at BWV in January when the Luna Park pool was down. It didn't impact my stay, because if I do swim (and January can be iffy in that department anyway) I typically choose the quiet pool over the feature pool. But at no point did I receive any information from Disney that the pool would be down. I found that out on my own through websites like this. As big as Disney is, I would think that routine refurbishments would be scheduled several months in advance, and that info should be coded to automatically appear on your confirmation when you book a room. It wasn't like I booked my room a year and a half ahead. I booked in August for January, less than six months.
