Am I the only one who knows nothing about The Divinci code?

I know the movie is coming out next week and the book has been on the best seller list forever but I have no idea what it's about. My DB who is very religious emailed me and asked if I was going to see it. I told him I knew nothing about it. He said it is trying to discredit everything about Jesus and what Christians believe. :confused3

What's all the hype?

Nope, you're not alone. I have absolutely NO clue what the heck it's all about.

My mom read the book and said it was wonderful, but oddly did not share any details :confused3 .

I'll go see the movie when it's out.

No, you're not the only one. Haven't read the book. Haven't watched any of the shows about the book or the movie. The movie looks pretty good though, so I might get it when it comes out on DVD. I thought it was fiction....am I wrong?

You are definitely not alone because I have no idea what any of its about :confused3

I have read the book and it is mediocre at best. It does not discredit Christianity in anyway, but many are gullible and believe the stuff he "invented". Just because he uses real people and places in the book does not make the book anything more than the fiction it is.

I've read it - more than once - I do that when I like a book.

I have also read "Angels and Demons" and "Deception Point". I liked "Angels and Demons" better than DaVinci and I liked DiVinci better than "Deception Point".
I will go see the movie but Tom Hanks would not have been my pick for Langdon. Hopefully, thay won't interfere with my enjoyment of the movie.

I'm reading the book now and I like it so far. It's just a work of fiction though and I don't know why some people are so threatened by it.

I read the book and thought it was great. Depending on your religious convictions, you may be entertained or offended, though.

I think the best way to look at it is as fiction with some very subjective fact and history interjected. As to how much is fact and how much is fiction is arguable, although a few recent archaelogical discoveries have suggested there may be more fact than many would care to admit.

In all, the story does raise a host of questions that may never be answered. Nothing to lose sleep over, though.

I haven't read the book, but some friends have shared their views on it. DH and I are going to see it opening day. :thumbsup2 I like Tom Hanks and Ron Howard, so I'll be there. :thumbsup2

tiff, did you want a synopsis of the story? I don't want to ruin it for anyone who doesn't know the storyline so highlight this section if you want to know: The premise is that the Holy Grail is not the cup from the Last Supper but the child (and bloodline) of Jesus and Mary Magdelene. It's been awhile since I've read it but I'm really looking forward to the movie.

I haven't read the book and won't see the movie because it isn't the kind of book I read. But for the OPs BF, this is a work of fiction, if people come away from reading it or seeing the movie thinking everything they have ever believed in is a lie, then they must not have much faith to begin with.

My husband is a pastor, which makes me a pastor's wife!! We both read the book and found it very enjoyable. Did not at all threaten my beliefs or values. Just an entertaining read. FICTION, people, FICTION. I, personally, have not read any of the Left Behind books, but my husband has, and he says the same thing about them. They are great FICTION books, but that is ALL they are! People believe what they want to believe, whether it has any factual basis or not. :confused3 (We also read Harry Potter, love 'em!!)

I haven't read the book either. I was also curious as to why it was so controversial, so I asked some friends to tell me about the book - they were really reluctant to! They said it was a good mystery and they didn't want to spoil it for me, in case I decided to read it after all.

Anyway, after a little nagging on my part, they spilled the beans. In case you don't want it spoiled for you too, I won't go into detail, but I gather that the controversy is over some fictional additions to the life and times of Jesus.

This is not the first book or movie to do something like that, and Christianity continues to flourish. I don't know why there is so much fuss over this particular story.

It is a great work of fiction. One of the best books that I have read in a long long time. I had a hard time putting it down. I have Angels and Demons, and have not had the time to devote to reading it, but it's almost time for reading in the pool and it will be the first book I pick up!

I hope the movie can live up to the suspense and excitement of the book!!! With Hanks and Howard - I think it has a pretty good chance! I had planned to go opening weekend, but I have a house guest who will be here that has not read the book, and does not want to see it before - so we will wait. DD9 has enjoyed the previews so much when we have seen other movies that she wants to see it too!

I just read the book a few weeks ago. I'm also not sure why there are so many people that are all up in arms about it, but to each their own I guess.

I read the book last month. I thought it was enjoyable. It is FICTION and I can't understand why so many people take offense to it.

I plan on seeing the movie.

I really enjoyed the book. I also bought the "Deluxe" version which has full color artwork and pictures of many of the paintings and churches and monuments in the book. It is really nice to read the story and then have the artwork right there to look at.

Our church started a study group on the Da Vinci code last week but it conflicts with my schedule so I can't go.

I actually thought his book Angels and Demons was a better book but Da Vinci code is better known. His other novels are pretty much crap.
