Am I the only one who is frustrated with how often kids are given treats in school?

I don't want to sound like an ogre, but in the past week my dd has come home at least three times telling me about how many Dunkin Munchins she had for one birthday or another in school. Now, my pediatrician has told me (on more than one occasion) to watch how much I give her to eat and I try like crazy to pack reasonable lunches and snacks. But I feel like the other parents and the teacher are undermining my efforts. I am trying to give her good examples by what I pack for her, and I'm trying to make sure she is not overeating, which she will do at every opportunity (she doesn't seem to have a "full" switch). Of course it is nice to celebrate birthdays and enjoy snacks together, but shouldn't there be some kind of limit as to how often? I'm really surprised that they do this in her class because of how many kids have food allergies in this class (one being life-threatening). My dd also has food dye intolerances and the teacher has been very helpful with trying to make sure she doesn't get anything that we don't want her to have.
Thanks for letting me vent. :o

They did it a lot in preschool, not so much now that he is in kindergarten.

I am frustrated in general about how it seems like ALL celebrations are about food. It seems like we are always celebrating something, and there has to be sweets involved somewhere.

All kids want to share a treat for their birthdays. If you have a specific concern, I'd talk to the teacher about limiting your child's snacks. Perhaps you could keep an alternate snack on hand at school for a party treat for your child.

Just don't expect the teacher to be able to give you advance notice of the birthday treats--we OFTEN don't get any notice ourselves.

I don't mind the celebrations but when the TEACHER starts handing out treats..... Our school librarian doesn't have very good class managment control sooo IF the children behave she will give them a treat (jolly rancher, lollipop, some type of hard candy) at the end of class. My son has had 2 teeth removed and I can't tell you how many cavaties...we therefor no longer give him any kind of sweets that remains in his mouth unless we can brush his teeth right away.
I have spoken to the teacher and to the principal and they say he should not take a candy..OH YEAH right what kid is not going to take a candy when it's offered, Please.:hyper:

Thanks for letting me vent. :yo-yo:

My dad comes out in the morning and takes the kids to school if my dh is working. My dad keeps telling me to quit buying the kids all that CANDY! I'm keep telling him, it's not me buying it, they are getting it from the treasure boxes at school! I feel your pain!
