I'm only 36 and I hate hard core gangsta rap music just like I hate Country Music and hard rock. I'd rather have a hot needle in the eyeball.
My daughter has to bring her cd player whenever we travel so she can listen to her cd's.

Give me Boney James, Pat Matheny,Norman Brown, Wes Montgomery,4Play, Grover Washington and Van Halen anyday.

Now that's music.

edited to add I do like De La Soul and others who rap like them.

I saw Wes Montgomery on you list and thought "whoa....somebody else that listens to Wes Montgomery". Then I noticed you were here in Indy and it made even more sense. Good list, BTW.

Is that like saying someone likes Singspiel but not Opera Buffa?

If this was a SAT exam, that might be the best choice. However, I dont really find anything comical about ganster rap.;)

Thank you:)
My dh converted me years ago before we married. At first I couldn't stand jazz music but now I LOVE it!!!

I wish Indy would get hip and have a really nice Jazz concert like Chicago holds each year.

It's getting better. The Jazz Fest gets a little better each year, for example. For a town its size, Indy has GREAT Music, IMO!

I'm white, fat and 51. I love hip hop and some rap. I don't
like gangsta rap however because it is so violent. Beyonce Knowles does do SOME Hip Hop but not all her music is-her
boyfriend is J-Z and he's a hip hop sometimes rap artist.
Most rap is sexual or dance romance oriented, gangsta is about murder-ho's-badmouthing women. Many rap artist do both but
not all. Hip hop has some rap undertones or incorporates rap
sometimes like Outkast's "I Like the Way you Move"

To say you hate hip hop because you hate gansta rap is like
saying you hate opera because Wagner is too heavy or
you hate Elvis because you hate Metal; it's all Rock after all.
Loads of Pop musicians incorporate some Hip Hop these days
but only consider themselves able to do both genres. Have you
seen any of the dance videos or the movie "You Got Served?"
They are full of wonderfully talented dancers and musicians.
Anyway, if you are a music lover and like to dance, there are
lots of hip hop/pop songs and groups you could really enjoy.
Don't close your mind to it all because of how it started back in
the 70's. Things have evolved, truly. You are only as young as
you feel. To open the brain and learn is a good way to stay
young, flexible and fend off Alzheimers.
:sunny:

It has nothing to do with how old you are, I'm 20 and I've always hated anything that has to do with rap, hip hop or r&b. I'd much rather listen to rock or pop.

*shrug* No, you're not the only one who doesn't "get" rap or hip hop. I don't get it either and I don't really care to try. Like someone earlier said "I'd rather have a hot needle in the eyeball" than listen to that stuff. :p

I voted "Don't like it," but it is stronger than that - I can't stand it.

::yes::

there's a lot of hip hop out there that doesn't use disrespectful language or imagery.

If only that would work to help fend that disease off.

I could take it or leave it, preferrably leave it. I don't look for it on the radio, but if a song comes on and I like the music (regardless of the words) I'll keep it on.

De La Soul! Now you're talking!

Me Myself and I

[Dove]
Mirror mirror on the wall
Tell me mirror what is wrong?
Can it be my De La Clothes
Or is it just my De La Soul
What I do ain't make believe
People say I sit and try
But when it comes to being De La
It's just me myself and I

It's just me myself and I (repeat 3x)

[Posdonus]
Now you tease my Plug One style
And my Plug One spectacles
You say Plug One and Two are hippies
No we're not, thats pure Plug Bull
Always pushin that we formed an image
There's no need to lie
When it comes to being Plug One
It's just me myself and I

It's just me myself and I (repeat 3X)

[Dove]
Proud, I'm proud of what I am
Poems I speak are Plug Two type
Please oh please let Plug Two be
himself, not what you read or write
Write is wrong when hype is written
on the Soul, De La that is
Style is surely our own thing
Not the false disguise of show-biz
De La Soul is from the soul
And in fact I can't deny
Strictly from the Dan called Stuckie
And from me myself and I

It's just me myself and I (repeat 3X)

[Posdonus]
Glory Glory Hallelu
Glory for Plug One and Two
But that glory's been denied
By concensing dookie eyes
People think they diss my person
by stating I'm darkly packed
I know this so I point at Q-Tip
and he states, "Black is Black"
Mirror mirror on the wall
Shovel chestnuts in my path
Just keep all nuts twistin up
so I don't get an aftermath
But if I do I'll calmly punch them
in the 4th day of July
Cause they tried to mess with third degree
That's me myself and I

It's just me myself and I (repeat 3X)

And some people think chasing a small white ball around in
very expensive grass is a sport. I will refrain from calling it
"crap" but too each his own, eh?

Your right Galahad Indy does have great music. I also enjoy going to Rick's BoatYard Cafe to listen to live jazz. So very nice:D

Tony everyone has different taste. I see your from Tennessee where I'm sure Country music and Elvis is King. Personally I absolutely hate Country Music with a passion. It reminds me of a drunken crooner crying over a lost coondog.

As far as Elvis I have never ever understood what people saw in that man. As far as I'm concerned he couldn't sing or dance.

Again different strokes for different folks :D

I like it, in fact I listen to all types of music except county, which I can't stand. Eminem is my favorite Hip Hop/Rap artist. I don't like the hard-core Gansta stuff but everything else is good IMO.

Thanks, Caity. You did help me with that sunscreen (thanks again ::yes:: ), maybe you will help me retain a semblance of youth as I age here. Thanks.
