Am I the only one underwhelmed by the Electrical Parade?

MSEP
I have fond memories of the one in Disneyland so I can't get enough of MSEP at MK. Its outdated, but never feels old to me.

This ^ Most people love or hate a version of a parade or show based on what they grew up on.

The MSEP is the first parade I saw as a teenager and the first parade my two son's saw as kids and the only night time parade I know.

Its kind of like when people want to go back to the "Original" song on COP. Not realizing that "Now is the time" was not the original song and was a commercial for GE. :)

I'm glad I saw this thread. I had only seen Spectro so that is what I was expecting to see on this trip. Now that I've seen the video of MSEP I will definitely skip it. There are barely any characters my kids will recognize, and that song...ugh! They used that song on a mexican comedy show from the 70s (El Chapulin Colorado). Like others here, I can listen to it for maybe 15 secs. More than that and I want to pull my hair out.

It has an "old" vibe to it ...not sure if all the floats are actually old. I saw it this past November and just didn't get all the crowd. I know now to take advantage of the rides during this point, but I wanted to see it once to see what all the fuss was about. It's put me off wanting to try the water one.

People love MSEP because that is the first one they saw, which is the same reason I loved :lovestruc SpectroMagic. It was the first parade I saw on my first trip when I was 16. I remember standing on the curb with my Grandmother, the lights went out, the music started, and we were in complete awe. While I think MSEP has a certain old-timey feel to it, and I love parades, I just do not care for it at all. I think the music is the worst part, it is so repetitive and grating, it takes some willpower not to cover my ears. We still watch for the kids, my DS and whomever else is with, but it would not bother me to skip it every time.

We have enjoyed both parades. I wouldn't pick one over the other. Too bad that Spectro is gone as it would have been nice for them to alternate the parades. Say MSEP on even months and Spectro on odd months (just to minimize the juggling of floats and costumes back stage).

While storage of the floats is probably the biggest issue but you also think of the performers switching back and forth.

The music makes me want to pull my ears off.
Now that it's been brought up, I think it is the music that is the worst part. I didn't realize it before, but it's just awful and contributes greatly to that crazy/creepy feeling. Although the floats are still pretty unimpressive.

MSEP was nice to see again but it should have been a limited engagement and not a permanent parade again. Personally, I would like to see them run Spectro and MSEP on alternating nights but I'm sure that would make storage way too hard for all the floats.

Of course, it would be better if they did something new every year.

If they got rid of it, all of a sudden there would be an uproar about how Disney made a mistake the same way they did with (defunct attraction). Personally, I like. Yes, it is dated but that's the point. People who have been going to Disney since 71 can always have the nostalgic experience - and it's one of the few original attractions left on property.
Yeah, unfortunately, Disney can't win when it comes to these things which is why they stick on one thing for so long. The more I think about it the more I think they should make a tradition out of changing it every single year.

I adore MSEP. Its not even nostalgia for me, I saw it for the first time in 2008 and fell in love with it. we saw the Spectro floats on a Keys to the Kingdom float & my friend jokes that I looked at them funny and caused their demise. So, sorry :duck:but crikey I love that parade, would merrily watch it twice a night and often do. Its my ringtone too...

Plus, this guy. Who doesn't love a spinning snail in a jaunty tie?

Here's why MSEP will always win...none of THESE:

I liked Spectromagic better. I'm kind of tired of MSEP - I've seen it one too many times I think and been stuck by it when I mess up and enter the park just as it's reaching the front. LOL

We really liked it the first time, but it has no staying power for us. We haven't seen it since, unless in passing.

When the Electrical Parade eventually gets replaced I hope that Disney will store it safely enough so that they can bring it back for special events.

It pales in comparison to FoF, which I have seen 5 times this year and can't wait to see again.
MSEP=meh.

As much as i love MSEP, I would be totally cool with them replacing it with something completely new, like paint the night.

I think MSEP is okay, but I do not think it can hold a candle to Spectro. I feel the same way about Illuminations; the original version, when each country in the World Showcase was illuminated one at a time, to music, reallty touched my heart. I wish they would consider incorporating this piece of Illumination's history into today's version, I think it would be well received. Sorry for getting a little off topic.:offtopic:
