Am I the only one holding Delta tickets and not worried about it?

We're flying in June, have a two week DW and 7 day Disney cruise planned. I am reading all these panicked posts, and to tell you the truth, I'm just not worried about this. Why would the pilots shoot themselves in the foot and go on unemployment? Why would they strike in the first place, do they really think they'll get anything out of a company that will go out of business if they go on strike?

I'm just not worried. I may eat my words, but I just don't think we need to panic here.

Well I have round trip tickets to Europe in July. I have not worried at all about a back up, haven't called the apt rental company to see if I can get my money back if I can't go etc.....

I guess I am not worried, but I understand why folks are.

However, if we could go back in time to LAST spring... we went down this road with NW and before that (around Christmas I seem to recall) we went down this road with USAir. (And if they survived I figure anyone can!)

I agree with you! Why would all those pilots just forfeit their jobs, with an industry where there aren't many jobs available, what will they do if Delta shuts down??? I am flying in June/July (over July 4th) to WDW and I'm not worried yet.

Of course it all depends on what happens in the next couple weeks...but I can always book on another airline then.

I have tickets for mid-May and then again in Oct. I'm not overly concerned. I have a feeling things will shake out okay. If not...well, then I'm going to really start panicking!!!

I'm not too worried either. I have read several of the posts here about the possible strike and I do believe every possible view has been posted.We just have sit back and wait and hope for the best. Our flight is in 3 weeks

I'm one of the panicked ones - I didn't know anything about a possible strike till this morning, and as soon as I read up on it, I emailed everyone I'm traveling with in June to give them a heads up on the situation. However, it makes me feel better to hear from people who don't think the strike will happen. We're pretty much out of luck if the airline shuts down (we bought our tickets over 60 days ago, and there are 9 of us flying, so it would be hard to get enough standby seats), so I really, really want to think positively and stop worrying. So please, people, if you don't think the strike is likely, post here so I can read your words of reassurance!!

I'm a little anxious about it, I'll admit. We have Delta tickets for July to Disney, but those aren't the ones I'm concerned about. I figure by then, things will be shaken out, and either we'll be flying Delta, or we'll make other arrangements - in other words, we'll have enough time to figure out a plan for "what if".

What I'm less comfortable with, however, is our trip to Atlantis from April 19-23 - just a little too close to strike date for me, as there doesn't leave much room for any sort of resolution if things aren't going well. There are far fewer flights than to MCO, and most airlines are booked for our return flight. Plus, there's the airport - being stranded in MCO for hours until things straightened out wouldn't be SO bad...it's comfy, there's plenty of shops and food places. In the Bahamas....well....there's not a whole lot going on, and everyone would be stranded in the same tiny terminal.

Anyway, I'm being optimistic about the situation and that I'll be on a beach without any worries in two weeks.

I also am not too worried. We are flying June/July also and I just can't imagine this huge airline closing up shop and disappearing. I do think its possible that the pilots may decide to strike and things may get messed up for a day or two but I can't see anything more than that happening.

The economy in many cities would take a huge hit if Delta stopped flying. The government is just not going to let that happen. They will order the pilots to keep working. Will the pilots quit? I think there are a lot of out-of- work pilots around already, and I just can't see it happening. There is no where else for them to go.

Also, if Delta ceases to exist, all those airplanes, gates etc are still going to be around. My best guess is that the bankrupctcy judge appoints a receiver to operate it, and then works to sell all the assets (probably to another airline).

I agree the pilots will agree to some concessions to keep the airline running. I also agree the government will try to keep the airline running.

But I'd still worry I think part of the solution will be to reduce the number of flights that only sell with deeply discounted fares. I think flights from the NE to FL will be reduced and some routes may be eliminated altogether.

We have tickets on Delta in October and I'm not worried. But, I have the luxury of time to figure things out. If I had tickets for a recent trip (April/May) I'd be nervous just because I like to have all my ducks in a row and this news just scatters those ducks all over!

I'll see what transpires over the summer. We may just end up driving after all is said and done. As far as losing money, we spent $535 for our tickets (3 tickets) and I bought them in early December (with a CC) so I am well beyond the 60 day mark since the charge first appeared on my CC statement.

Oh well, such is life.

We have Delta flights for 11 in late June. Taking kids and grandkids to WDW. I'm not worried as of now as I can't see Delta totally disappearing. The pilots will realize that they'll be going from pay-cut jobs to no jobs, no benefits and no pensions. There isn't a high demand for pilots and I can't see them wanting to be permanently unemployed and standing in soup lines.
Now I may be suddenly searching for alternative flights and eating a huge chunk of $$$$ as I purchased these tickets last September but there's nothing I can do at this point except wait.

I agree with Lewis. I think no matter what we are going to see MAJOR changes. DL is already indicated that by moving a BIG emphasis to new international flights......

We are in the same boat,er a plane. We have 4 trip book with Delta. May for WDW, June for WDW, Aug. for Germany, and Nov. for Hawaii. I can't loose any more sleep becasue I am already not sleeping due to overplanning every trip. I guess only time will tell. I agree with the OP, I can't see them going bye-bye. The have just opened new route and have really made a huge market push in Europe. BUT... (a little pixie dust never hurts!)

I am one of the worried disney addicts. I have a ticket for September that
i bought back in October 2005. Plus i have a trip planned to Cinn in july thats
also a delta flight. With all the post about the strike i am thinking about cancelling the delta tickets and rebooking elsewhere . The ticket
for disney was purchases from Delta and the other one was travelocity. The disney ticket is nonrefundable and has good times.

I am in the worried boat,only because my trip is totally paid off and i dont want to fly standby with 3 kids by myself as this does not sound fun to me.
I just dont like it at all and yes i am nervous!!

I am worried even though my flight is in October. I can not afford to fork out another $1200 min for tickets I already paid for. Even though we have all this time we would still have not choice but to fly standby. Not the way I want to go with two small children and one grumpy husband. Driving is not an option for us since we are in the Northwest around 3000 miles away. I hope the wise experts on this sight are correct that the pilots wont shoot themselves in the foot. I am not so certain. I know I will be watching these boards daily for any and all info-not that my worry will do any good. Good luck too all of you with tickets these next couple of months I would be pulling my hair out with worry right now.

Yes I'm worried.
WDW May 31 - June 10, Delta from Tucson AZ. I just booked refundable tickets via SWA just in case. My thinking is I can always cancel those and if all else fails we get there.

I'm worried, I admit it. I have a June Delta ticket from Miami to Birmingham.

Someone mentioned a "60 day mark", is there a 60 day time period where you can get your money back on tickets? Even if the E-ticket says non-refundable?

I am not concerned in the least. What can you do about it besides give yourself an ulser? Relax and see how it plays out. It doesn't hurt to have an idea of what you are going to do if something happens, but you can't do anything about it right now.

Go back to planning your exciting trip to WDW!

I have one way flights May 25 from MSP to ATL to CRP (Corpus Christi). Mine are NWA flight miles, so hopefully NWA would accomodate us if needed, but I will worry about that if, and only if, I need to.
