I keep trying every possible combination of coupons, codes etc.. and the cheapest I can seem to get is $274 for a 10 day rental, July 10-20 (compact/ 2 car class upgrade coupon & carson wagon ID).

It seems like Iget a different rate each time I try. I've gotten $446.77, $296.91, $349.36, $400.66, $423.38. All trying with eith priceless ID or 2 car upgrade coupon or $20 off coupon.

I even had my Mom try her computer, I even tried cleaning out my cookies (I read Gails suggestion in another post).

I've seen most people are going in May or June who seem to be getting these great rates, so maybe JUly has not been discounted or something.

Well, I just wanted to see if this has only been happening to me.

Thanks for letting me vent.

thoroughly confused by National:confused:

I think it's based on demand and the rates will go down closer to the date if they have many cars not yet reserved. My rate for early May was originally around $189, it dropped 3 or 4 times, I'm down to $133.

I finally gave up on National-
We leave Wednesday & time is running out.
Got $185.00 all taxes/fees included with Avis for 8 days.
I guess I got an OK deal:crazy: Did I ??

eI kept trying to get a decent rate for July 7-12. Kept getting no cars available, or a rate of $267.00, kept trying all different codes and than I re-tried one and got a rate of 145.00, boy did I hit that reserve button fast.

I'm going for 11 days in July and am not having much luck. I am reserved with Alamo for $282 w/tax. I made that reservation back in December and haven't been able to beat it yet. Checking the rental car prices is my least favorite part of trip planning.

I'm not having much luck in the beginning of June either.

NO LUCK for July 19- August 2 with National dropping its rate either! I have $492.50 for a full size car(which is the smallest we can do with 5 of us and our luggage!)I used Carlson Code and an Entertainment coupon. I try every couple of days and check this board EVERY DAY! So if anyone sees a drop or gets a great rate, PLEASE POST!! Thanks, Joan

I have never had good rates with the Carlson Code, not sure why, but, it has NEVER worked for me.

I did try the Priceless code for National and came out with 180.00 (+/-) for 8 days, intermediate, EA. I also used the BJ's code for 20.00 off.

Kind of high. We have Alamo for 8 days early Sept. for 188.13 inclusive. Full size.
I used the BJ's code and coupon for one free day.

It actually dropped 60.00 in a matter of days, btw.

Compact (Chev Cav)
using the Walmart code - sorry I don't have it here at work
but found it over on mousesavers.com-
I think I got a good deal- Avis usually is expensive in relation
to the others (except Hertz)

I'm in the same boat at the OP. I've got a 10 day rental for late Aug. Total is $274 as well. I've used the Carlson code and the $20 National coupon. The Priceless code makes the rate jump up to $360.

for what kind of car?

i have an intermediate emerald aisle from june 4-11th for $143 using just the priceless vacation contract code.

Not to worry, the rates will probably come down as you get closer. 3 weeks ago my 11 day intermediate rental rate for my April 28-8May trip was $299, using the carlson code and free day. In the past 2 weeks my rate has dropped about 6 times, and now I have my 11 day intermediate rental rate at $218 TOTAL--all taxes and fees. Using the priceless vacation code and free day.

I also have a July 14-23, 10 day rental on emerald aisle that is currently $273, using carlson code and $20 coupon.

In addition I have a Oct. 20-30, 11 day rental on emerald aisle that is currently $303, using carlson code and $20 coupon.

My May ressies was almost identical to these later two and as my time got closer the rate fell and continued to fall. I went from a base rate of $161 a week carlson code to a base rate of $128 as of yesterday. But unlike the carlson code (which I dropped when the base rate dropped) I took 11% off with the emerald aisle contract code, plus the free National coupon day.

All you can do is book where you are most comfortable and check the website, along with the transportation and budget boards, because when the rate drops we will be the ones sharing the news with all!

Not a bad rate. But, I will stick with my 8 day full size 188.13 rate with Alamo. I like them. :) I also like Avis, btw, I have used them and like them a lot.

n2mm,

OK, Now I feel much better :D

At least I know I'm not just going crazy:crazy: over here.

I will keep my eyeballs peeled and check with National daily. Gotta get a good rate:teeth:

Thanks for the feedback.
