Am I the only one disappointed with the BOMA dinner?

We usually LOVE BOMA! This past visit, we were all very disappointed. There seemed to be less food choices. The flavors were good, but some of the dishes were cold (maybe not cold, but not warm, more of a room temp).The desserts were also limited compared to past visits. Maybe we just hit an off-night. I would like to think so as this is one of our go-to, all time favorites.

This is disappointing to hear! I haven't been for dinner since 2014, but just booked an ADR for November. I'll be interested in hearing other opinions. Hopefully, like you said, they were just having a bad night!

It must have been an off night. I go every other month or so and am rarely disappointed except on the nights when they dont have peanut rice

I was there one evening when the guy watching over the carved meats (was he a cook?...he was wearing a chef's hat) was berating a poor underling because he said she was cutting the meat too thick. I thought she was doing fine....about the size cut you'd get at any other (non-Disney) buffet.

I was there a few weeks ago and I couldnt disagree more. I thought everything was as great as it ever was and i am not sure how long they have had the bread pudding with the chocolate chips in it but it was better than the Ohana bread pudding in my opinion.

I'm updating my statement below. I had a complete brain freeze and mixed up Boma with Ohana. My review below is for Ohana. I absolutely LOVE Boma and go almost every trip for dinner. The food and selection has always been fantastic.


Last time we were there in Oct '16, we were very disappointed. The food was cold and service was poor. We really enjoyed our 1st trip there a few years ago but are not planning on going again when we stay at the Poly in Oct this year.

My first visit to Boma was in September of 2001, and I've been going back every visit, once or twice a year, ever since. It's my favorite restaurant anywhere, and the place I hope to eat the night before the asteroid hits us.
There have been many times I've read reports that "Boma has gone downhill." And each time I go back, my reaction is "false alarm, yet another great evening."

So I'm confident if things didn't go well, it was an off night. Your next visit will likely be as good as you remember in the past.

The last visit there confirmed our impression; it has gone down hill. Fewer choices, entres served warm, salad choices limited. The big attraction for us were the wide variety of dressings and salads on the buffet. No longer. It will be a long time before we return.

This ^^^ We dined there a few nights ago and although it was delicious it did seem there were fewer salad selections (I'm vegetarian so I cannot comment on the meat selections/portion sizes). After this year I think we will be returning only for breakfast, especially with an 11 year old who still eats like a child - that makes a Boma dinner pricey for us and I'd rather throw that kind of $ toward a signature and let him order the ubiquitous $11 grilled chicken breast.

We ate at Boma on Tuesday night (7/25/17) and I thought, if anything, that it was better than the last time we ate there (11/15)! There were 5 amazing soups, 6 cold/interesting/mixed salads as well as tossed salad and macaroni salad, terrific salmon dish (I don't eat salmon but DH had seconds). The beef was a perfect medium-rare but they'd grill it for you if you like it better-done. Pap w/chakalaka is one of my favorites and this didn't disappoint. Even liked the zebra domes, and I'm not necessarily a huge fan. Also... the dessert that's like a whipped coffee mousse served in a chocolate shell was delicious, especially if you popped the entire thing into your mouth at once! I tried the oxtail stew- first time I've ever had oxtail- and it was amazing... savory, filling, delicious. The curried seafood stew had the perfect balance, so you could taste the seafood and the curry... but my favorite was the carrot/ginger soup, so good that I've asked for the recipe. I was a little sad that we didn't hit Boma on peanut rice night, but we only had one night here (the other dinner was for my birthday at California Grill) so we were happy with what we had!

Absolutely not, I just don't get why so many people love this place. We were not impressed the last time we went. I think it's overpriced and over-rated, maybe we hit it on "off" nights as well but felt that it never lived up to the hype, there are so many other places I'd choose over Boma. My dd who is an adult is a picky eater and it's just not worth the adult price for her to eat Kid's mac n cheese and chicken nuggets. I'll take JIKO anytime over Boma...

Unfortunately, we were disappointed when we visited for dinner last year. A few of the things I ate would have been good, if they were warm. There was one stew I really loved, but everything else I ate was passable at best. This was not my first time there and I had enjoyed it previously. Even the zebra domes were disappointing last year--and I LOVE zebra domes! On top of mediocre offerings that night it was very crowded and extremely loud. I'm not sure if we'll ever do that again due to the price--maybe in a few years.

We went, as a substitute for Sanaa, our one-time favorite restaurant, which has suffered several menu overhauls, leaving it much less interesting and delicious than before.

I will say, we are having breakfast at Boma on our next trip, so I am hopeful!

Not to pile on but... our last Boma experience wasn't bad, I'd go back, but my one complaint was it seemed too crowded. The carving station line was like 20 people deep the entire time so I just skipped it entirely.

My disappointment with Boma is the cost. I know that all dining has gone up significantly over the years (thank you DDP....) but for my family it has become too expensive for what my family's picky eaters would consume. My youngest just turned 10 and I cannot justify the adult buffet price for what she would eat at Boma. So I get my Zebra Domes from the AKL QS location instead.
