Am I the only Grinch on the CB?

You are not alone-except for the religous part I would happily skip from the last Wednesday in November to the second of January-to many ucky things tied up in the holidays. It wasn't so bad when the boys were very small and I hope every year that I will feel better about it-but I start to dread it by Halloween.

Well, we've got Chaunkah right after Thanksgiving (DW , DD and DS are Jewish) then a few weeks until Chrstmas (since I'm Catholic).

I'm still working off Halloween.

Bah Humbug!

it's too darn early this year! ack! :earseek: :earseek: :earseek: :earseek:

I'd like to add my two kids to the others offered. They're pretty self-sufficient.....DS is a good cook....but I'm sure they'd love another grandmother!!!

Thank you paras4i.

Why is it that everyone offering to loan me some grandchildren live so far away from me?

Distance is no problem......DH loves to drive....he's out getting gas for the van right now!!!

ACK, kejoda...wait, MN is not all that far....don't be an indian giver

Normally... I always wait until after Thanksgiving to begin celebrating the Christmas season... this year however is an exception. I am going to DIS CON which means I lose almost a 1 1/2 weeks from December ... if my family is going to enjoy the holidays despite my indulgence of taking off and playing with a bunch of DISers... then I need to move a little faster this year. So... the weekend BEFORE Thanksgiving... we will be putting up our tree, and I am trying to get the gift shopping finished early for the same reason.

As for the hassle... it only get's that way if you let it. What is important to you and your family? Do those things... and nothing else. For us... it is:

Lighting lots of candles and turning out all the lights in the house except the Christmas tree lights... and then either listening to christmas music or watching one of our favorite christmas DVD's. DD particularly loves this and BEGS to do this almost every night through the holidays!

Putting a big puzzle out on the main table ... and working on it together. Talking and laughing as we slowly bring the puzzle to a finished state.

Picking a family from our local giving tree and doing something "extra" ... what fun it is to think about it and then find that something special.

Notice none of the above included "shopping till I dropped", or "baking every imaginable sugary treat", or entertaining people "I barely like". Instead... it is about slowing down and indulging in the winter solstice tradition of spending a little quiet time with family... reconnecting. It is also about affirming our religious beliefs.

So to answer the question.... no you are not alone in that it does seem to stretch beyond the normal "holiday season" anymore... but for me I don't care - bring em on. :D

Barkeep!!! Another Grapefruit juice + , for my friend The Grinch.....errrr I mean Kath! ;) ;) ;)

i'm sick of xmas already just based on all the threads here. :p

thanksgiving is my favorite holiday, so i like to focus on that first. :)

LOL, Corinne! If you think you can tolerate the grapefruit juice, I'll buy you a drink at Jellyrolls :)

;) Kath! ....still can't tolerate the grapefruit juice (but a beer would be good!):D
Soon Kath!

Very soon! Can't wait and I'll buy you a beer :)

I'm not looking forward to Christmas this year. I'm not even looking forward to Thanksgiving. My oldest always cooked the turkey even though she is a vegetarian. I made her favorite broccoli casserole. She won't be home for either. In fact she told me that a bunch of them are going to Tokyo Disneyland for Thanksgiving.
This is also the first year I won't be a part of the Miami Christmas Pageant. It was a family tradition for 25 years.
I think I hate Christmas this year!

You're on Kath! And I will get you that grapefruit juice+!
SIng with me now..."Sweet Caro..." ;)
Corinne

No, you're not the only one. As an ex-Christian Atheist married to a Jewish man trying to raise a Jewish daughter, I can tell you that Christmas comes way too early for me! Heck, Hannukah comes even earlier !

My 3 year old saw a 4 foot tall grooving, singing santa today at the K-Mart and chirped happily: "Look Mommy! Christmas!" and insisted that we get closer. The thing freaked me out, but my daughter seemed to like it. Darn.

With all that being said, where will we be on 12/25? You guessed it: Walt Disney World. We can "pass" ;) We'll monorail into the MK for the morning and end up at Chef Mickey's for dinner since I've been told they have Lobster Bisque on the menu that night. Yum!

I'm so glad this thread was started! I haven't been around much since we have been spending time with DS before the Marines take him away but when I saw this thread I had to write. This has been and continues to be an emotional year for us. Now Thanksgiving is almost here and I am trying to figure out how to scale back on the cooking since Bran could eat a whole turkey by himself!! Then comes Christmas and I am just not in the mood. Christmas is for children and they make it so special. Even last year as an 18 yo Bran was waking us up at 6am to see what Santa brought!!! Things just won't be the same. DH, DD(15) and I are flying to Vail, CO to visit my Dad for Christmas because I can't bear to be in the house this year.

On the bright side we can look forward to the future holidays when Bran will be able to be with us again. And DH has promised me a real sleigh ride complete with horses for Christmas! Maybe it will snow!!

Aw, Lisa :( No pageant this year?

Robinb, I think being in WDW on Christmas would be perfect.

Tiggerkeeper {{{HUGS}}} sweetie. Reading your post made me feel sad. You really miss your son, don't you? I think going to visit your dad is a great idea and I hope you get that sleigh ride.

I refuse to believe that anyone can be considered a grinch for not starting Christmas before Thanksgiving.
