Am I Tall Enough for Radiator Springs?

Welcome to my first ever trip report, which happens to be on our first ever trip to Disneyland. Let’s start with introductions. I am Sara, a 30-something physical therapist from Wisconsin. Then there is my husband Nik, who works at the Department of Veterans Affairs doing something with data that I try hard to understand but most days have no idea what it means. We have two energetic daughters – E who is 7 and L who is 4.

We have been to WDW 3 times as a family and every trip has been more magical than the last. E is all girlie girl and is everything princess. L likes princesses but her last two birthday party themes have been Cars and Toy Story. She dressed up as Buzz Lightyear for MNSSHP last year and wants to be Mater when she grows up. While WDW does a lot of things right their Cars offerings leave something to be desired. In 2023 we stayed at AoA to take advantage of the Cars theming and did the Lightning McQueen show and she was over the moon but wanted more. Her dad and I made the agreement that once she was tall enough to go on Radiator Springs Racers, we would plan a trip to Disneyland.

Two months later at her 4 year old well child visit the nurse had her step on the scale to weigh and measure her. The nurse rattled off her height in metrics and L immediately turned to her and asked “Am I tall enough for Radiator Springs?” I chuckled and explained that we were waiting for her to hit 40 inches to plan a trip to Disneyland and the nurse very excitedly turned to L and said “YOU’RE GOING TO DISNEYLAND!” She came in at 41 inches, which felt like a safe buffer since we knew the trip wouldn’t be for a few months.

Based on the crowd calendars we decided to go the last week of August. Schools in California would already be back at that time and most people wouldn’t be traveling the week before their schools started. We were lucky to take advantage of the summer sales on hotels and tickets allowing us to book a room at the Disneyland Hotel for the cost of a good neighbor hotel. The summer ticket offer was limited to Monday through Thursday so we ultimately bought a single day ticket for Friday. We decided to not spring for Genie+ on the front end with the thought we could do a single day if the parks were fuller than expected. I did get nervous that this was the wrong choice when Oogie Boogie Bash parties were announced to start the week we were there but decided to stand with my decision and roll the dice.

Travel Day

We had a 7:40 am flight out of our home airport in Milwaukee which meant a 5:30 wake up call. We are fortunate to live 15 minutes from the airport and have precheck so we only needed to wake the girls up 30 minutes before their school day alarms. My father-in-law picked us up and took us to the airport which was great for saving on parking or an Uber fee. Neither of my girls are ones to eat as soon as they wake up so I made sure their backpacks had a couple of options that they could eat in the terminal or on the plane. I had anticipated that we would stop at Starbucks for coffee/breakfast sandwiches but the girls were too excited for the potential of airplane snacks.




We started boarding on time and despite having a nearly full flight, got into the air 8 minutes ahead of schedule. Knowing that we had a shorter layover, this made me breathe a sigh of relief. The flight was overall uneventful. Both girls were seated by me with my husband in the middle seat in the row behind us. I haven’t flown Delta in over 3 years so was unprepared when the flight attendants came through and offered a number of snack options. The girls both saw the bags of Sun Chips and their eyes lit up. I agreed to the chips, but made them lead with a protein bar to prevent a stomachache. E watched her IPad for the rest of the flight, L watched Chicken Run on the seat back tv, I read (All The Missing Girls by Megan Miranda) and my husband napped.

We landed in Salt Lake City and went on the hunt for lunch. It was only 10:30 local time but was 11:30 home time so we were all very ready to eat. The airport was a very manageable size so after doing a full loop we settled on Burger King. We ate and went to the next gate. The flight took off on time and the pilot surprised us with the announcement that the flight would be 20 minutes shorter than we originally thought. Another round of snacks (Biscoff Cookies this time) and a nap for L and we were in Santa Ana!
Our luggage beat us to the baggage claim so we wrangled that and ordered a Lyft XL. To note Lyft was $20 cheaper than Uber on both sides of our trip. The rideshare pickup at John Wayne Airport is in the parking structure on the second level and was a mad house. We saw multiple confused parties getting into the wrong vehicle, but everyone handled it patiently. Our driver was great and talked a lot about the Anaheim area on the 25 minute ride to the hotel. Once we arrived at the Disneyland Hotel he helped us unload and wished us a great trip.



We went inside to begin the check in process and to our surprise our room was ready! I was stunned because many people said rooms at the Disneyland hotel are never ready before 4 and it was only 1! Our room was in the Frontier Tower so we decided to put the stroller together to make the walk a little easier. This was the first speedbump of our trip. One of the seats of our stroller had the leg rest snapped off at some point in travel. I know this is why many people rent a stroller when they travel but in all of the times we have flown with this stroller we have never had an issue. Lesson learned. We pieced it together and made the hike over to our room.



We were on the 7th floor overlooking the parking lot. Not the most exciting view but we were on the end of the hallway so it was nice and quiet at night. First, order of business was unpacking which we did at lightning speed thanks to packing cubes. Next, up was SWIMMING! I cannot rave enough about the pools at the Disneyland hotel. They were the right amount of warm and with having so many it never felt crowded. We did learn the concrete around the pool gets blazing lava hot so if we were to ever visit again I would get the girls water shoes. L loved the little slides in the Monorail pool and E loved swimming under the bridge in the D ticket pool.

After swimming we got changed with the intent of heading to Downtown Disney to explore before our Trader Sam’s reservation. This changed when I got the message that our grocery order and been delivered and even further derailed when we found Pluto, Minnie, Chip and Dale in the hotel lobby. The girls grabbed a picture with Pluto and waved to the others. We then got the groceries before turning and heading back to our room. We were very step inefficient on this trip and did A LOT of laps.

It was now time for our Trader Sam’s reservation. With how hard this reservation was to get I expected the place to be full, but when we got inside there was one other table and maybe 6 people at the bar. I know it’s small but there were still empty high tops and bar seats available. We ordered our first round of drinks and food for the girls since it was now 5 pm. Nik ordered the Sea Monster’s Embrace, I got the Pirahna Pool and the girls got the Polynesian Punch and an order of chicken strips. My drink was great but my husband’s was VERY boozy. We later learned it was meant for 2 people. Despite this he was still able to order a second drink. This time we ordered the Shipwrecked (for the effects), a HippopotoMai-Tai (at the recommendation of our server) and the Hawaiian Platter. This was all very good and the girls had such a fun time.



We wrapped up at Trader Sam’s and finally headed towards Downtown Disney. There was no wait at security which was a pleasant surprise as I had been reading some horror stories about lines. We strolled through the area taking in the sights and Halloween decorations. The girls both had giftcards burning holes in their pockets so we finally stopped in at World of Disney to let them shop. L instantly fell in love with an Aurora dress that was more of a real dress than the costumes that are in the other areas of the store. E decided to roll the dice on Muchlings so we spent no less than 20 minutes trying to sniff out the ones she wanted. After all of the sniffing it was time to head to their Lego mini figure appointment. This was a neat experience but overall not one I would do again.
It was getting late so once the figures finished printing we headed back to the hotel for the night. E opened her Munchlings and got 2/3 she was hoping to get. Not bad if you ask me. We got ready for bed and played the firework show on the headboard. This ultimately turned into our nightlight each night. It gave just enough glow and wasn’t disruptive to anyone’s sleep. The girls were asleep by 8:30 and Nik and I were not far behind them.

Day 1: We’re going to Disneyland!

We are a rope drop family, so it was an early wake up call to take advantage of Early Entry at Disneyland. I always wake up first and get myself fully ready before trying to wake anyone else. I had a lot of nerves around getting through security and the turnstiles since it was our first experience with this. My alarm was set for 4:50 but I was up at 4:30 – 6:30 Milwaukee time which is essentially sleeping in at our house. After getting myself ready I got the girls up so I could do their hair and start suggesting breakfast ideas. They aren’t the type to eat first thing in the morning, but I did want them to have something in the stroller while we were waiting for security to open up. They both chose cereal cups, so I packed those and horizon milks in the stroller and we were off to line up.

At 6:17 we were the 3rd family in line. There was a very boisterous man 2 families back that said the day prior one of the guards came through at 6:50 and checked room keys to begin letting families up to the screening process. Unfortunately for us this was not the case and our room key was checked at 6:58 and we were through security shortly after. As a WDW goer I would say the THOUROUGH bag check took longer than I would have liked but was ultimately balanced by the quicker stroller check. As soon as we were through security we got the girls in the stroller and made the trek to Disneyland Park. On this walk I was able to get boarding group 6 for Haunted Mansion Holiday. I knew the girls wouldn’t love this but I am a Nightmare Before Christmas junkie so it was my one ask for the day.

We got to the turnstiles at 7:08 (my times will get less precise as this report goes on) and were the first family. With this being our first ticket day we knew we would need pictures taken and I was concerned this would slow us down. Luckily the CM working our line started the process at about 7:20 and we were released to the park with the masses at 7:25. We were one of the first 4 families to the rope so we decided to head to Peter Pan. This was the first time we had a stroller mistake. The stroller parking by Peter Pan is past the ride so by the time the stroller was parked we were no longer at the front of the pack. If we were to do this over I would have parked the stroller immediately after going through the castle and carried the girls to the ride. Good, bad or otherwise we never rode this ride again because my girls HATED the drops.

Because the girls were upset coming off of Peter Pan we audibled and went to Dumbo. I had seen the weeks prior that this line could get really long so it was no issue to get this out of the way with a short wait. From Dumbo we went to Tea Cups which is another tried and true favorite. L was slightly disappointed that there isn’t a mouse popping out a teapot like there is in WDW, but we made it up to her by letting her determine the spin speed. Next we made it to Buzz, which is so much easier in DL. The fact that you can actually pick up the blaster made it so much easier for my littles to hit the targets.





In our mission to continue to be inefficient we headed to Small World. This is a top ride and I was ready for a long sit down. DL wins hands down for this ride. The girls had so much fun spotting the characters throughout the ride and the icing on the cake was getting to see E’s favorite character – STITCH!

Day 1 – Part 2: We’re Headed Straight for the Mansion

At this point our boarding group was called so it was time to make our way across the park. As we were walking we caught Genie and Gepetto walking through Fantasyland. Both girls ran up and got a picture with Genie, but L was not a fan of Gepetto so E had to get his attention alone.



We buzzed across the park and literally walked into HMH with 0 wait. We got into the stretching room and the preshow immediately began. This ride got mixed reviews - L covered her eyes through the majority of the right and screamed at everything while E was seated with me and loved spotting the characters until we got stopped directly in front of the Hat Box Ghost. 4 minutes later the ride got going and they both informed me that “We’re never doing that again!” To make it up to them we stopped for some popcorn. Now in WDW we are big time popcorn refill people so not having that as an option was a bummer. The stand we stopped at had Oogie Boogie turning the crank which was met with so many giggles.



Popcorn being shared between the stroller riders and the parents, we made our way to Jungle Cruise. This queue felt soooo claustrophobic. Especially since my kids don’t do single file lines well. The ride was great and our Skipper catered to the group in the boat. The girls thought it was hilarious that he said the hippo “escapes” to visit his girlfriend in Small World.

We decided to visit Toontown next. The waits here were more than I would have liked, but E really wanted to ride the Gadget Coaster. The two of us got in line with a posted 30 minute wait while L and dad went to play in the How to Play Yard. This wait was a full 30 minute wait, but she loved it. Once we got off it was time to feed the littles. I mobile ordered cheese pizzas from Daisy’s Cafe which the girls inhaled. At this point E wanted another go on the Gadget Coaster so she and Nik made their way over. L and I went to Donald’s Splash Pad. I won the crown (tiara?) of being the more fun parent by letting her actually get wet. It was 88 degrees and super sunny so I knew she would dry off in no time – I did not account for how stinky it would make her shoes. Gadget Coaster round 2 complete and I decided it was time to eat. Nik saw in the app that Pocahontas was meeting so we took the roundabout way and grabbed a picture with her before walking through Galaxy’s Edge.





On our way to Docking Bay 7, E saw the Grogu shoulder pals and had to have it. Because her shoulders are so tiny, he ended up being more of a stroller pal and spent a lot of the trip on the stroller canopy.



My husband and I split the fried chicken baos. I loved these and my husband was neutral on them. The girls asked if we could get dessert, specifically the Alien Buzz macron. I made a mobile order and we started towards Alien Pizza Planet. My husband made a very abrupt stop when he realized that Woody was out meeting. We quickly jumped in line to get a picture and continued on our journey.



While the alien macron was a cute treat, it was not anyone’s favorite. To me it tasted like food coloring which makes sense given the neon green shade it had. At this point the girls capital n, needed to spend money.

E really wanted the make your own character headband and L wanted a Jasmine dress like the Arora one from the day prior. I knew the Mad Hatter on Main Street would have the headband and WOD would have the dress, so this prompted our midday break. E picked out Stitch and Zero to go on her headband and I was a little disappointed that the CM checking her out had to comment that they “aren’t a pair”. Fortunately, this didn’t phase her and she proudly popped her headband on. While we were in the store, Nik and L made their way to get the green apple churro. I didn’t try this, but the two of them loved it. When we got out of the store Goofy was meeting in front of a cool fall backdrop so we HAD to stop. A few pictures later and we were out of the parks. According to my camera roll this was just before 1pm. We quickly stopped into World of Disney where L got her Jasmine dress and matching ears before heading back to the hotel.

Day 1 – Part 3

The girls were ready to swim and I was simply ready to not feel hot. We swam for a while before they wanted to go by the Steamboat Willy Splash Pad. Once there Nik and I ordered some drinks and we got the girls an order of chicken tenders to share. This will be a major theme through the rest of our stay. Poolside service was one of our favorite things. Finally at 3:30 we decided to get out and head back to the park.

By 4 we were through security and headed to meet some characters. Our list was Alice, the Evil Queen and Maleficent. We went to the locations listed in the app and waited 10-15 minutes for each. At that point I felt like we were wasting time so we agreed to try back on our next Disneyland Park day. Of course, as soon as we started to walk away Maleficent came out. While they didn’t get a picture, the girls were able to wave and they were elated. The first ride we got on was the Carousel and E was terrified. She made me hold onto her the entire time. Mind you this is the same kid that rode the Gadget Coaster twice that morning. I don’t know what got into her, but she was not having it. Next, we went to the Casey Jr. Train at the request of L since it looks very much like our zoo’s train. It was cute, but we got stopped for 15 minutes before the last tunnel. The CM at the end kindly gave us a return pass to be used at any point in the day.



E asked if we could get something to eat so we opened the app to find return times that were 45-60 minutes out except for, drumroll...Galactic Grill! Every podcast I listened to prior to this trip said to avoid Tomorrowland food and here we are ordering on the first day. Both girls wanted mac and cheese so that was easy to mobile order. We got to the restaurant and sat down with their food so Nik and I could figure something out for us. We decided to get Bengal BBQ with a 7:40 pick up time. Shortly after placing the order Nik realized that the Oga’s reservation that I believed to be on Thursday was actually for tonight. It was currently 6:50 and our reservation was for...you guessed it...6:50. Fortunately the girls were done eating so we tossed them in the stroller and booked it across the park. Again, very inefficient. I did mobile check in and we were seated by 7. Once seated I pulled up our Bengal order and was able to bump it back to 8:30 - talk about lucky.

We’ve never been to Oga’s at WDW so this was a brand new experience. We were sat with another couple at a shared table. The table was massive giving us a ton of space, but good, bad or otherwise prevented us from interacting with the couple at our table. We quickly ordered drinks – me Takodana Quencher, Nik Fuzzy Tautaun, E Jabba Juice and L Blue Bantha. Everything was great and the girls had fun exploring the restaurant (bar?) with their dad.





As cool as everything was no one wanted another drink and the girls really wanted to ride Small World again. Once we were off of Small World, Nik and I decided to divide and conquer. The girls wanted to go back to the train and it was about time to get our food so I set off to Bengal and the rest of the team went to redeem the Casey Jr train return. I somehow managed to get through first so I went to the entrance of Main Street to wait. Because people were setting up spots for the projections Nik had a bit of trouble navigating the stroller to meet me. Finally we were all reunited and, on our way, out to Downtown Disney. Nik and I stopped on a bench to eat our food and were back to the hotel at 9:17.

Day 2 - Part 1: Racing to Racers

NOW ITS TIME FOR THE MAIN ATTRACTION! The amount of anticipation for today was at a high. We were going to Cars Land and meeting Lightning and Mater for the first time! It was another day of rope drop but unfortunately we were no longer on our Midwest schedule. I set an alarm for 4:30 and it took everything in me to actually get out of bed. A cup of coffee was able to give me enough oomph to get going and I was ready by 5. I woke both of the girls up and they begrudgingly got ready for the day. We headed out and got to the security checkpoint line at 6:09 and were the 4th family back. This day a security guard came through at 6:50 to verify our room key and let us start through security early. Anyone that was not staying onsite was held to the side and we heard him say that they would be let through at 7. We made it to the DCA turnstiles by 7 and were the second family back. It felt like the GCH guests had a major jump on us this day.

We were let into the park around 7:25 (time details were slipping here) and headed toward Hollywood Land. This was a bizarre rope drop to me as they had us nearly in a single file line while the non early entry guests had a more traditional rope along the street. At 7:30 we were allowed through and headed to Webslingers. On the walk there my girls saw 2 drops of the Guardians elevator at the top level and informed us that it was a hard pass from them. I will never forget how big L’s eyes got and that was without the screams of any riders. I thought Webslingers was a super cool ride. The girls were not fans due to the 3D component. E got along with the ride once she took off the 3D glasses.

From Webslingers we decided to do a second rope drop of RSR – this was why we were here after all. The line wasn’t bad when we got there at 7:50, purchased the Radiator Spings pressed pennies and they started sending us through the queue with the awareness that the ride was going to be opening late and they didn’t know when it would be up. We decided to stick it out and took advantage of getting pictures while in line.






The ride came up at 8:28 and moved consistently. We lost our race but it was a memorable ride. Unfortunately for the guests behind us the ride went down right before we got offloaded and we overheard a CM saying that they would be running with just one track. While the ride was cool, the race aspect definitely added something to the experience and I think I would have been bummed if we didn’t get it.

Coming off the ride we saw that McQueen was meeting people. We hopped in line and E decided she needed a snack. Her and I headed over to Filmore’s and got the most expensive Cheetos I have ever purchased for her and a spicy pickle for me. By the time we got back it was our turn to meet McQueen and I can say with certainty that L will never forget this moment.



After seeing E’s chips, L decided she wanted her own so her and Nik went to pick those out while E and I headed towards Luigi’s Rollicking Roadsters. Sad news is the ride was down but when we turned around we saw Mater coming out to take over for McQueen! Back in line we went. The family in front of us for this meet had a birthday person and we got to sing Happy Birthday with Mater.

It was only fitting that after seeing Mater we would go on his ride. The best part about this queue is getting to see all of the signs for the Mater shorts that are on Disney+. L watches these on repeat so she was able to recognize the posters and tell us what happened in each one. The second best part was the music. If anyone knows where to find the soundtrack to the JamBooRee please let me know. The girls were making up line dances and proceeded to sing about the purple fender bender the rest of the day.

Day 2 – Part 2: Rootinest, Tootinest

At this point L was requesting a carousel so we left to head to Jessie’s. Again, E was not a fan and made me hold her the whole ride. L thought the backwards skunk was hysterical but requested that the next ride would be on a turtle.




When we got off Nik saw that Baymax was meeting in Sanfransokyo so we headed that way. Unfortunately, Baymax had to go recharge his batteries when we were 2 back from meeting him.



Nik took this time to go get the girls Mac’s mac and cheese from Flo’s Cafe. I don’t recommend this because unlike other quick services they serve food on real dishes so we had to make a return trip after eating. While he was gone I placed mobile orders for the beef curry at Aunt Cass’s and for drinks and the golden sausage bun. Both of these were delicious, but Nik thought the sauce with the bun was “too spicy”.



From here we headed to Turtle Talk with Crush. We got to the animation building as the show was starting so we decided to get in line to meet Elsa. This was such a cute meet.



We got out right in time to line up for the next Turtle Talk show and made it into the theater. I LOVE that this is a real theater and not benches like WDW. We were front row and L sat on my lap. When we got out we saw that Luigi’s was up so we turned to head back to Radiator Springs. This had such a cute queue but the ride was pretty mehh for all of us. I don’t think I would ever wait more than 10 minutes for this ride.

At this point E decided it was time to do the Incredicoaster. She had been so excited the week prior to be tall enough to do this ride. On the walk over she saw the inversion and started to get nervous. I told her we could bail out at any point, but she felt certain she could do it. We had a 30 minute standby wait so Nik and L went to the carousel again – the turtle was calling her name. E did great until we pulled the shoulder bar down and then she got teary. The awesome CM asked if she was okay and told her it was okay to get off. They released our shoulder bars and we went to meet the other 2. This was a big case of just because your kid is tall enough for a ride doesn’t mean they are ready for it. She is typically a big fan of coasters but this one having an inversion was just too big of a step and I should have used my mom brain to say it wasn’t a good idea with her nerves on the carousels.

We reconvened with Nik and L at Bing Bong’s and got some cheer up slushies. These were really big and next time I would order 1 for the 4 of us to share. Fortunately, it was a hot day so it was refreshing and with some effort we were able to drink them both. We jumped in line to meet Bo Peep and Jessie and the CM kept saying that they might be leaving soon but they stayed out for some time even after we got done with our meet/picture turn. After we got done E asked if we could go back into Bing Bong’s because there was a big Stitch section that she wanted to look at. There were a pair of gray sweatpants that she decided were the vibe but they didn’t have them in her size. A super helpful CM told us that they may also have them at Elias & Co so off we went. E got the last pair in her size and of course since E bought something L also had to. She decided to buy the Jasmine jewelry to go with her dress and ears.



Next came Monsters, with a posted wait of 25 minutes. We ended up waiting for 40 minutes. What we were able to gather is that the ride had been down so they were loading a lot of LL people ahead of the standby. It worked to our advantage because when we got off the ride we were able to head straight to Story Time with Deadpool. People are crazy for this show. We got there 10 minutes early and there was very little space. Nik and L found a spot to sit near the front while E and I stood next to the tree in the back. We got to hear the story of BeautyPool with Wolverine coming out as the beast. L LOVED this and asked if we could do it again tomorrow.



At this point everyone was hot and tired so we decided to call it. Before anyone comes after me for how little we accomplished – I know. We don’t go to Disney to do everything. I hate the pressure and everyone comes away stressed. It is easier if we go at the girl’s pace and make sure everyone is able to compromise. On the walk through Downtown Disney I stopped at Earl of Sandwich to get the girls a turkey sandwich and a grilled cheese while Nik kept heading to the hotel to get them changed for swimming. By the time I got to the room they were changed and ate while I changed. We went down to the pool to swim for a bit. It was after 6 so poolside ordering was done but we were able to order from the Palms restaurant as a to go order and we took it by the Splash Pad. This night Nik and I split the crab roll and avocado hummus. Both were good and the veggies that came with the hummus were a welcome addition to my meal.

We called it an early night and everyone was in bed by 8:30. Sleep was necessary but as I was laying in bed saw the unexpected news that Winnie the Pooh would be opening back up the next day which was a DL day for us!

Day 3 - Part 1: Check off the Bucket List

This was a lazy start for me with my alarm going off at 4:40. Because we had gotten back early the night before I was able to prep our park bag and was less concerned over the security/turnstile situation. After getting ready, I woke the rest of the crew up at 5:15. We decided to send Nik down alone to get in line at security so the girls could take their time waking up. He managed to be second in line right around 6. The girls and I joined him around 6:20. This dividing set up worked really well and the girls were in their best morning mood of the trip. The same security guard as the day before came through at 6:45 to verify hotel keys and we were to the security check at 6:50. Again, when we passed the GCH entrance there was a steady stream of people coming into Downtown Disney so it was a race against them.

All of the turnstile points had people in line so we jumped in behind a couple. We got hoodwinked and before the park opened 8 more people joined them. It ultimately didn’t matter that much and we had our plan. Again, we went to the rope for Fantasyland. We were at the rope and started talking to a couple next to us. He was explaining that his goal was to do all 52 attractions in the parks. Sir, if you are out there reading this I would love to know if you completed your goal.

We had 0 intent of riding Peter Pan after Tuesday’s debacle, but still learned our lesson and parked our stroller at the first opportunity. E wanted to ride Snow White so we headed there and L wanted to ride Pinocchio so her and Nik headed there. Probably for the better Pinocchio was down so they rode the Carousel. E and I were the first ones on Snow White and she fell in love with this ride.



When we got off we were able to catch Nik and L going around on the Carousel so we waited for them to get off.



We headed to Alice as a group and while we were in line the dreaded ‘line poop’ hit L. She said she could wait, but as soon as we got off the ride I zoomed her and E to the bathroom. Nik took this opportunity to head over and line up at Toontown for ‘second rope drop’. The girls were speedy and we were out of the bathroom to hear the opening show.

We met Nik as the rope was being dropped into Toontown and made the decision to park the stroller at the entrance. We knew from our previous DL day that we wouldn’t need it in this land so it made sense to ditch it early. Our first ride was MMRR which the girls were familiar with from WDW. It was so fun to walk through this queue and see all of the movie posters redone with Disney characters. We were able to walk straight into the preshow and loaded quickly. From here we headed to Mickey and Minnie’s houses as these lines had been huge the previous visit. When we got to Minnie’s house, she wasn’t there but it gave the girls the opportunity to interact and take pictures throughout. The fridge was a big favorite.



Next we headed to Mickey’s house and were able to meet him on his front porch. While exploring his house he came walking through with a group following him. We joined the group and finally stopped in a theater area that was playing Mickey cartoons. Mikey’s attendant told us that he was going to change outfits and we would get to meet him again!



After seeing Mickey in his fancy clothes we finished exploring his house and headed out. E was ready to ride the Gadget coaster again and L had 0 interest. I took E to ride and Nik and L headed towards the playground. I found out after E and I got off the ride that L actually got to meet Donald! She had learned at this point that she could run up to the characters and Nik was able to get a great picture of her hugging him. While E and I were in line I mobile ordered donuts from Daisy’s Cafe and Nik was able to pick them up before heading to get in line to meet Minnie at her house. The girls ate the donuts while waiting and at one point L poked her head around the door and was shocked to see Minnie in the living room! After lots of hugs and pictures we headed out of her house and Nik and E took one last ride on the Gadget coaster.



L and I made our way out of Toontown and attempted to catch characters in the Small World Promenade. We struck out and L started to beg to ride Small World. I told her we would as soon as her dad and sister met up with us. I regret not taking her on it because I later found out that they took forever because they stopped to meet Pete! Nik was pumped because Pete complimented his muscles, and E went up to him by herself. They finally made their way to us and we hopped in the Small World queue and all of a sudden we were handed a lanyard. This crossed off a long standing bucket list item of mine – we had the magic key to update the standby line wait time! It seems like such a silly thing, but I knew that it was the “very scientific” way that the standby line time was measured and had read about others getting to do it so finally doing it was a big win for mom.

Day 3 – Part 2: Into the Hundred Acre Wood!

After Small World, it was time to adventure into the Hundred Acre Wood. We love Winnie the Pooh in WDW and everyone was a little bummed that we weren’t going to have the opportunity on this trip so the surprise opening was big time exciting. I would say that the DL version was loved much more because of the smaller impact of Pooh’s nightmare sequence. We exited the ride to see that Tigger was meeting guests and quickly hopped in line. During our wait he was joined by Pooh and the CMs kept saying that we would be guaranteed to meet someone, but by the time we got to the front that it could be just Pooh or even swapped out to Eeyore. Pooh and Tigger kept meeting as a team for a length of time and I tried to keep expectations low but we were lucky that we got to meet them as a duo!



Finally, it was time to do more shopping at Pooh Corner. Both girls picked out some candy and E went to the munchling section. While her and Nik sniffed out the options I found myself struggling to pick out which of the character sweatshirts I was going to take home. I eventually narrowed it down to Pooh and Tigger and let L decide. Back home and I am happily rocking my 90s style Tigger sweatshirt everywhere we go.

Today’s mom ask was riding Pirates and since we were in the area with a 15 minute standby line it was time. Despite this ride being a slightly more chaotic version of Small World, my girls are not fans, and the second drop made this one a hard no on doing it again. All was well when we exited to a gift shop and L was able to buy a Pirate Mickey long sleeve shirt. This kid was super practical in purchasing clothes throughout the trip.

At this point it was time for lunch. I placed ALL of the mobile orders – Jolly Holiday for E, Alien for L and Ronto Roasters for the grown ups. Nik took L to meet Miguel as E and I started to collect food. We picked up L’s spaghetti from Alien Pizza Planet before doubling back towards Jolly Holiday. Nik dropped L off and headed to Ronto Roasters. The girls started eating and by the time Nik was back with our food they were ready for dessert. I quickly ran inside to get the Mickey macaron and a caramel apple cheesecake. As crazy as this was, everyone got food they wanted and were in good moods.



While eating dessert the DL Band and Fab 5 came through which was a happy surprise. We decided to do one last ride before we headed back to swim. E chose Snow White and L chose...drumroll...the carousel. Since I rode Snow White in the morning Nik went with E. For whatever weird standby line weirdness was happening, they got done before L and I got off from the carousel.

We headed back to the hotel a little after 1 and the girls were swimming by 1:30. Nik took a power nap in one of the loungers while I watched the girls jump into the pool no fewer than 9,638 times. The kind lifeguard that was in their splash zone kept cheering them on and “judging” their attempts at belly flops. E came to me saying she was hungry so we placed an order for a grilled cheese and a cocktail for mom. Sleeping beauty woke up from his nap and was jealous of our treats and placed an order for a beer and churro bites. Then came the best surprise of the day when we heard a bike bell start dinging. A CM appeared with a cart and began handing out freeze pops to anyone that wanted one – kids and adults! Little moments like this made me fall in love with the DL Hotel.

Rested and refueled we made it back to the park by 4:15. First stop was the Enchanted Tiki Room. L would hang out in the Tiki Room in WDW all day if we would let her meaning seeing the OBs (original birds) was a must. Sufficiently serenaded, we headed for our Maleficent do over. When we got to Snow White’s wishing well there were 2 families already waiting and decided to join the queue. Where we proceeded to wait...and wait...and wait. We were getting close to throwing in the figurative towel, when we heard excited voices and saw the unmistakable horns that are Maleficent. E finally got to meet her favorite villain and L made sure to stay a significant arms distance away.

After the trauma of watching her sister pose with a villain, L asked to go on Autopia. This felt like it was going to be a copy and paste from WDW, but who was I to say no. The standby line said 25 minutes and we asked L multiple times if she was sure she wanted to wait that long. She emphatically informed us “25 minutes is not that long, I can wait.” About 15 minutes into the wait she started telling us “Guys, we’re almost there! Look we’re going to go down here!” Turns out the Disney switchbacks really do make lines seem shorter than they are. I drew the long straw and got to ride with E, aka the older and less chaotic driver.



Storybook Canal was next on the girls’ wish list. This queue will go down as the worst queue in Disney history. We were standing in line when all of a sudden I felt something wet. Ladies and gentlemen...I GOT POOPED ON! Not just me but Nik and a few others in our area. There are some big trees in this area that houses a number of birds. And those birds decided to play dirty. People were standing with their backpacks on their heads, putting their raincoats on and generally trying to leave gaps where they would be directly in the line of fire. Fortunately, there was a mom with a diaper bag that was kind enough to give me a baby wipe so I could clean off my arm before getting on the ride.

After the journey through all of the fairytale lands we were all hungry. The rookies in us didn’t realize that dinner at DL is a mad house. We went to mobile order and all of the return times were for 60-90 minutes later. Again, Nik and I divided and conquered. E came with me to Red Rose Tavern and Edelweiss while Nik and Lidija went to Alein Pizza Planet – are you sensing the theme with my girls? E was such a champ helping me carry food and navigate the crowd to get over to Nik and L.

At this point in the night L was toast but E really, really, REALLY wanted to ride Snow White again. Since I got to rope drop it with her, Nik said he would go on with her. L and I loaded the stroller and headed out of the park and back to the hotel. My girl didn’t even make it halfway through Downtown Disney before she was out. Nik and E finally made it to the hotel and E was buzzing from her solo time with Dad.



Another great Disney day was in the books.

Day 4 - Part 1: The Fam Without A Plan

With a 4:40 wake up being successful the day prior, I decided to sleep in again. This was the first morning that my shower was not ice cold. While a cold shower is great to shock the system, I was not sad to have warm water. Lights in the room went on at 5:15 and the crew begrudgingly started to get ready. Nik and L went to get in line and security while E and I went to The Coffee Shop. Mobile ordering wasn’t on which worked well because E needed time to peruse her options. She couldn’t make a decision, so I made the executive decision to buy all of the breakfast options. Bad choice...we waited foreverrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Not an exaggeration. We got to security and had everyone eat quickly since it was closing in on 6:40.



6:45 keys were checked and we were through security by 6:48. At this point the shine of the walk through Downtown Disney had worn off and we made quick work of getting to the park entrance. Nothing says vacation like an 8 minute powerwalk in the morning.

The summer ticket offer only covered our first 3 park days making this an individual ticket day. I knew this meant that we would need to do pictures at the park entrance, so I was a little more amped up than the prior two days. I think L fed off this energy and had to panic poop. Her and I took off to find a bathroom while Nik and E held down the fort second in line. We made it back to the line as the group ahead of us was being scanned into the park. This might have been luck or Disney magic...we’ll never know.

The girls definitively did not want to ride Guardians, Web Slingers or Racers today so we headed to rope drop Monsters.



With no set plan and E’s Sully stuffie in tow we decided to ride a second time. I suggested that we head towards Pixar Pier at this point.



We were able to walk onto Toy Story Midway Mania. We’ve never done this ride at WDW because the line has always been killer and I haven’t cracked on paying for the LL. We had a blast and were able to ride 2 more times without getting out of the ride vehicle. I had to do a Cast Member Compliment to Max at this ride because it made the girls morning.



I made the request to go to Ariel next since this is one of my favorite WDW rides and the wait time was <10 minutes. A classic with a very different queue than WDW. E asked to ride Goofy’s Sky School which was a hard pass for L. Nik took E to line up while L and I wandered. On our solo adventure we ran into Luka and took some pictures.



Nik and E caught up to us and we were able to meet Anger as a family. Sadness was supposed to meet with him, but a woman behind us in line said that the day prior a family took their two kids with pink eye to meet Sadness, and she immediately had to stop meeting friends.



E requested another round of GSS and Nik’s loathing of roller coasters meant that it was mom’s turn. While we rode GSS, Nik took L to ride the Golden Zephyr with the plan to reconvene for food after. Nik took the girls to Pym’s and I got the glorious PEANUT BUTTER COLD BREW! If anyone has the recipe for this, please send it my way. Best coffee I’ve EVER had and was almost ruined when Spiderman cut me off on my walk to Pym’s. Totally joking, it actually made for a really cool video to show the kids.

Next we went to Carsland where we proceeded to ride Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree. This was L’s #1 ride of the trip so her and Nik took another (literal) spin while E and I went to meet Captain Marvel. Talk about female empowerment. Captain Marvel breathed so much confidence into E in our short time with her.



Nik and L met us as we were getting out of line and Nik decided that we all deserved a treat. The grown-ups came in the form of a drink from Pym’s and the girls in the form of ice cream. We decided the perfect place to eat our treats would be the line for Monsters.

Out of Monstropolis we went back to see our favorite friend Crush. My girls never sit on the floor because they 100% do not actually want to talk to Crush so having the theater seated allowed them to see better from a few rows back. Because L was obsessed with Deadpool two days prior, we decided that we should prioritize seeing another show. We got there early enough that we were all able to sit towards the front. I was hopeful that we would get a different story this time around and we were lucky enough to get CinderPool!

Day 4 - Part 2: The Last Hoorah

We were hungry and had reservations for the WOC dessert party so I wanted to get the girls a nap. We headed out of the park and split paths. Nik took the girls back to the hotel while I stopped at Earl of Sandwich since it was a hit earlier in the week. By the time I got back to the hotel both girls were already asleep. Around 3 I woke them up so they could eat and we headed back to Downtown Disney. On our way past WOD they asked if we could stop and shop. We didn’t have to rush so we decided to stop in and see. L decided to get a set of miniature princesses and E got an ILY doll.

Nik was on the hunt to meet characters, so we headed straight to Nick WIlde. This was a cute meet and I wish we had planned better so we also could have met Judy Hopps, but such is life.



We headed back to Mater’s Junkyard because favorite rides need to be ridden as many times as humanly possible. Exploring Carsland lead us into stumbling upon Cruz Ramirez. This completed the Carsland quadfecta of characters.



Since we had bailed out of the Incredicoaster, I decided that I wanted to ride it this day and got in the single rider line. The line moved quickly and Nik set the girls up in a spot where they could watch the countdown sequence. I was able to wave to both girls before being set off to chase JackJack. I’m so glad I prioritized this ride and hope that next trip one of the girls will decide to ride it with me, but I definitely needed a break from fast movements after riding it.

In another divide and conquer sequence Nik took E to ride GSS (favorite ride) while L and I went to TSMM. While waiting in line L informed me that her kids dad will be the one to take them on roller coasters. Looks like she doesn’t plan on ever being a roller coaster rider.

Thanks to all of the lovely people on here I knew that I needed to get us checked in for the WOC dessert early. Nik took the girls to the Redwood Creek Challenge Trail while I headed to the check in spot. Did I waste a lot of time waiting? Yes. Was I the first person to check in with 4 groups behind me? Also yes. Did I secure table 27? You bet your butt I did.

Table secured we headed to do Shaboom. My Cars loving 4-year-old was in HEAVEN. She kept telling us that it was “Just like the movie!” While we were waiting for sundown, we mobile ordered from Lucky Ramen and got the girls some hotdogs. I started panicking because the food was taking so long to come up despite us ordering well in advance. We got it and immediately headed to the dessert party. Turns out it is totally fine to take food into the viewing area. So if you find yourself in a similar predicament, don’t stress and just eat at the dessert party. Our waitress was awesome and made sure we all got our specialty drinks and boxes for the leftover desserts before we had to settle in for the show. Nik is a soft soul and teared up during the show and E told me she’s so glad that I want them to have special trips because the show was “so special”. The lead up to our trips is always so crazy and I feel like I try to read every bit of information but it was so worth it to have their reactions.







At this point it was late but I had promised E that we could do GSS 1 more time. We raced over while Nik and L headed to Maters. E and I made it off the ride and were able to get back in line right before they cut it off for the night...so 1 more ride actually turned into 2. We met back up with the other 2 so Nik could pick out our family trip sweatshirts and we could head home – yes the DL Hotel officially felt like home. This was our first ever park close and it showed. L fell asleep in the stroller and E was in an absolute giggle fit.



When we got back to the room she was still in a delusional state so I turned on the Rapunzel bedtime story and she was able to settle in. 20 hours after waking up, I was finally in bed for the day.
