Am I overpacking?

OK, so now I'm proud of myself :cheer2:

I just went and reorganized my luggage. I am down to 2 large suitcases and 4 carryon's. When I relooked at what I was packing, reality sunk in. I will likely do at least one load of laundry sometime on the boat, so I minimized the packing to about 3/4's of what I thought I needed. Squished a little here and there and was able to combine an adult with a child in each large suitcase. I still have room left over for last minute things, AND to bring stuff home with.

Thanks for the ideas and reality check -- 4 more days and counting !!!!! :hourglass

JUST REMEMBER, THE LESS YOU PACK, THE MORE ROOM YOU HAVE FOR SOUVENIRS!!!! :cheer2: :cool1:

My suggestion, just ignore the 'take out the half '. As long as your stuff fits in your suitcases, leave it

Never thought of it that way! I like that....

If you are flying in check the weight restrictions for suitcases - or else you will be paying extra $. I found it very easy to do a load of laundry on the ship. You just let the laundry do itself and switch it to the dryer and come back and pick it up. It was better to me then lugging around heavy suitcases. Remember everything you bring you also have to haul home, wash and put away!

I told myself I would do this next time, so I thought I'd just pass it along--

I'm going to pack a small bag with what we need the night/day we get off the boat. (ie, outfit to go home in for each of us, room for "make-up/toothbrush" bag, room for pjs). This is to avoid trying to make sense of it all the last night before you have to put your bags out. I'm going to come back from dinner, change, and dump everything in suitcases and throw them outside the door! That way, I can enjoy my last night!

Also, you might want to pack an empty bag of some sort that you can put souvenirs in--we had a hard time fitting those in. I think what you've packed sounds fine, and don't forget, you're not the one who has to carry it around--they do it for you!! So I say pack what you need!

First off, I am an obsessive overpacker. Yet, as I have read before, if you are going to overpack, a cruise is the place. Especially if you book everything through Disney. You wave goodbye to your luggage at the curb and never handle it again until you get to your stateroom. With the new pound limit the airlines have imposed, we had to use more, and smaller bags. We also didn't do laundry while on board. Too much fun stuff to do. We just shoved it in a large garbage bag that we kept under the bed all week, then the bag went in an empty duffel we packed just for this purpose. No work. All Fun. Happy Boy!

I echo the comment on the weight. If you go over, the airline will charge you 50 to 100 bucks per bag. If you are flying go to the airlines website and see what the weight restrictions are. And make sure you have swim suits in the carry on so that the kids can go to the pool after you board, in case the luggage doesn't get there quickly.

Honestly, it is easy to over pack, I try to wear the same shorts 2 times, and for dinner I can wear the same pair of black slaks for all but dressy nights. Don't go overboard with shoes, either. Make sure you have one pair of comfortable broken in shoes for walking at the ports, one pair of dressy sandals for dinners and flip flops for the pool. Believe me, after 12 cruises, I have learned that it's not a fashion show!

I have no intention of doing laundry on the cruise. It's my vacation too.
For a 4 day cruise, I am packing a short/skort outfit for each day for my daughter and 3 dresses, her princess costume and 2 swimsuits. I'll end up throwing in a couple more outfits for the two days at Disney and then there are the traveling clothes. I'll take sandals, tennis shoes and water shoes for my DD.

I am bringing 3 pair of capris, 1 skort, 2 pair of shorts, several tops and
1 skirt & blouse for myself. I don't do dresses but the skirt is very dressy and will work for Palo. I'll bring a swimsuit and coverup as well but probably won't get in the pool much. As far as shoes I'm bringing 1 pair of flip flops, one pair canvas tennis shoes/mules and one pair of heels to wear to Palos.

Packing for DH has been the easiest. I packed 3 polos, 3 t-shirts, 2 Hawaiian print shirts, khakis, jeans and 3 pair of shorts. He'll also take 2 swimsuits, tennis shoes and sandals.

I always overpack because my moods change and I like to have choices. I usually try to reduce the amount I'm taking just before zipping up the suitcase but even then, I've still overpacked.

I plan on packing one duffle bag for me, DH will pack his own bag. A medium size bag for each of our 2 DD's. And another small bag with our shampoo and such in it. I might also pack a small bag with just our swim stuff. The girls bought beachtowels at the Disney store this week, they were on sale. I am sure I will overpack, but it's nice to know we can do laundry on the cruise.
