My husband and I are planning on doing our first ever family vacation and we decided on WDW!!! We have 4 children. I have 2 stepsons who are 14 and 9, a daughter who is 7 and son who is 2. We are driving from WI because there is no way i can justify the cost of 6 plane tickets. We had originally planned on going in October, but when i looked at a chart on how busy the crowds were I noticed that every semi-busy time is one of the weeks we would have to go (due to the schedule when we have my stepsons). Which brought me to April. Am i crazy to only give myself 2 months to plan this entire thing? I am a planner, so I'm feeling a little overwhelmed.I just want this trip to go so well. I should mention that I have been to WDW once back in 2004, but husband has never been. He is not helping plan at all as he knows I'm a control freak!

You can do it! I too am a super planner and we did a "last minute" trip last year at 3 months out.

Just remember that you are at Disney World and will have a great time. I mean, you are at Disney World! Even if you plan the tiniest bit, with a good attitude , you will still have a great trip. Are you planning to be there over Easter? That would be my only concern because it is supposed to be pretty swamped then.

No, I am looking at going the end of April.

We just started planning our April trip two weeks ago (we leave on the 17th). Because of my husband's job, we almost always plan our WDW trips with what most people on this board consider 'short' notice. The longest we ever had to plan was three months, and one time we decided to go THE NEXT DAY. The only thing is that you might find that you have to a be a little bit more flexible than you would like. You've got this covered, and you'll have a great trip, even if you can't plan perfectly. Have fun!

We are going the last week in April. I think you can do it. I have been moving my dining reservations around a lot. I haven't had any trouble changing reservations really. You should probably get started as soon as possible.

My dh just told me last night to plan a trip to WDW for next week! :crazy2: I'll trade you!! lol. We have 4 children, as well. :)

It's easy to get the impression from these boards that a wdw vacation needs 6 plus months of planning, but it just isn't necessary. Try to have a relaxed touring style. Make a list of the top three things your family wants to do each, make sure you do them, then enjoy the rest of your day as you see fit. If there is a must do meal, try to get reservations, knowing that you preferred time might not be available.

Our favorite day ever at wdw was in december, we got into the area much earlier than expected. So we drove straight to the park, and spent a fun evening at magic kingdom. We made our fast passes right there in line for another attraction. From about 7pm to 12 am that night we were able to do monsters Inc laugh floor, buzz lightyear , stitch's escape, Tomorrowland speedway, the carousel, splash mountain, dumbo about 8 times, little mermaid, and Peter pan, winnie the pooh, and eat dinner. It was fantastic!

Wdw is fun and magical, whether you plan a year in advance or spur of the moment.

All of our past trips including the first trip with all four kids, DH and I and we would plan it 30 days or less before we left. We always did just fine, the first trip we had four kids age 4-10 so it is completely doable. In fact this year because of jobs we had to plan almost an entire year in advance and I am going stir crazy with all this time!

End of April is great. Spring Break/Easter is gone and no schools out yet. I planned one trip during a busy time in a month and a short /off season one in a week!!!
Get busy now. Choose your resort, make your ADRs and get your FP as soon as you can. You will have some places and rides you might not get into, but there will be plenty of good choices too. HAPPY PLANNING!
