I usually cross this bridge as soon as I book airfare, which is half the expense. I always mentally check off that this is the point of no return, it's go or waste a LOT of money. So, I say go, the job hunt can continue when you return.

My husband has been unemployed for almost 2 yrs from injuries, the economy, and then cancer. We are still going. Enjoy it while you can.

This is just a "bump in the road"... if you guys are OK with it (and only you know your financial situation), then I'd say the heck with what others think. Go for it!

Make DH promise to ignore the layoff and enjoy the vacation as if the pink slip never came. Fully immerse yourself, and he'll be charged and ready with Disney magic to get another job.

Been there / done that!! (Well, with ME getting laid off not DH). Staying home at this point will solve nothing if you already have AP's & airfare. Just try not to splurge TOO much while you're there - maybe less TS meals than you'd normally do. We have been very grateful to have our DVC membership in this economy so we can still vacation. Since I'm still not working we've opted to go to HHI this summer instead of renewing our AP's. Driving rather than flying and no passes to buy...probably not as many souvies to tempt us...with our accomodations covered it should be one of the cheapest vacations we've ever had. Enjoy your trip knowing that without DVC you'd be up the creek. WITH DVC you can relax & enjoy a few days of vacation. Then your DH can come home & face the challenges ahead with renewed energy.

I seem to always gain perspective when going on vacation (by getting out of the routine grind); you may find that going on vacation was the best thing you could have done. Good luck.
