Am I Missing Something?

I have a bounce back room only deal at CSR Nov 27th-Dec 4th that I booked when I was at WDW this past May. Because Saturday Nov 26th was not covered under the bounce back dates, I booked a room only at rack rate at AS Movies for that night just so I could book my ADRs at 180 days out. I planned all along to switch to the AP discount when it came out. Today when the AP discounts finally came out, I found that the bounce back deal I already had, beat the AP discounts so kept the bounce back for the last seven nights. I switched the rack rate room only I had at AS Moves for the first night (Nov 26th) over to an AP room at CSR, so I'd be in the same resort all week.

Since AP holders can buy the DDPs without buying park tickets, I decided to add the DxDDP for that first night only. I know I have to use all the components of it by midnight Sunday Nov 27th. So if my thinking is correct, for $78.99 I get a mug, two snack credits, and three meal credits (which if used as TS meals include 1 appetizer, 1 entree, 1 dessert, and 1 beverage).

so: $78.99
-$13.99 for the mug
- 8.00 for two snacks
$57.00 for three meals

$57.00 divided by 3 meals=$19.00/meal (appetizer, entree, dessert, and beverage). I'll have the TiW card, but there is no way I could get a three course meal for $19.00 even with the TiW card, especially if I plan my more expensive meals for those first two days. Right? Sounds too good to be true though. What am I missing? I'd buy the mug anyway.

Remember, most people get the plan for multiple nights, spreading out the value of the mug.
And remember -- not all meals are created equal. $19 may me very low for a lunch or dinner, but it's high for a breakfast.

But overall -- especially under 2011 prices, if you use all of your deluxe credits for ts dining, without wasting and credits or entitlements, it does translate into a significant "savings.".

True, but I'm not a breakfast eater anyway. I was thinking of doing a TS that first night, then TS again for lunch and dinner on Sunday before the credits expire at midnight Sunday night. $19.00 for a appetizer, entree, dessert, and beverage just seems a little too good to be true though.

And look at it this way --- if you are factoring in full price for the mug, you are way over-paying for it. Are you going to consume $15 worth of refillable soda in just 1 night?

Even leaving the mug out of the equation in total, that gives you a ~$24.33 "target" to hit. Which for 3 courses, lunch/dinner, is not entirely far-fetched.

I think OP is factoring in that 1) they'd buy the mug anyways and 2) they'd use it for the remainder of their trip not just one night.

OP your calculations look correct so go have fun.

Technically... That would be breaking the rules with the mug.

I see the math the same way as Aubriee and I think this is a great plan.

Havoc, normally I agree with you on most things but on this one I flat out disagree. The rule about the mugs has to do with a single stay at a resort. Nowhere does it say that has to be a single reservation. She's not even switching resorts. CMs will tell you that even with a split stay at different resorts you can go ahead and use the same mug and even most of the DIS mug police will say that as well. Aubriee is staying at one single resort, just on different reservations because of the way the promotions fell. This really is a single stay at the resort at which the mug was purchased.

The letter of the law is at the same resort and new mug per leg or portion.

The spirit of the law is that split stays (same resort or multiple) should be acceptable under one mug.

The debate between the letter and spirit is best held to it's own thread :).

If the rfd chips come to pass, then the mug would only be good for 1 night. That is the letter of the law.

The overall point though does remain -- the dxdp is the one plan that remains an excellent value if you use most of your entitlements.

It entirely depends on how they setup the system. They RFID chips can be programmed to be "active" for x amount of time rather than y location. If for x amount of time, it suggests that the spirit of the law would win out ;). But, again, another thread for that part of the topic :p.

And yep, DxDDP (especially in 2012) is the only plan that will remain with a fairly easy guarantee of savings. DDP will have to be thought out pretty well and worked quite a bit, and QSDP isn't worth it (imo). While still plausible, the margin of savings is so slim that a slight "miss" and you can fall behind.
