I was planning on using 2 TS credit for my dinner at Flying Fish but I just can't seem to make sense of the cost. 2 TS credits would cost me $91.98 which would include an entree and a dessert, right? Now if I go to the menu and pick out the most expensive entree and the most expensive dessert that comes to $53.00....how can I justify that and how can I use the DDP to my benefit. Should I only use the DDP for 1 ts credit sit down meals? Also, is my tip based on the two TS credit or the actual amount paid for the meals? Sorry I am so clueless about this but I am learning.

It sounds like youve worked it out right, although Im not sure what individual table credits cost. :thumbsup2
You get a drink, entree and dessert. can believe the difference, seems a lot :scared1:
For tip youd base it on the amount you spend.

what ive done recently is roughly price up each meal. From that I will work out what meals to use the dining plan on. we're a couple of meals over so will have to pay oop for them. :)

You have probably figured it correctly. ( I don't usually keep up with signature prices ).

However I do know that when you dine at a signature you are not only paying for "better food" (I use that term loosely), You are paying for the atmsophere and experience of the restaurant.

Personally I would rather pay more money for more food or better food. But I don't believe I need to pay for atmosphere.

So it is harder to calculate the charge of "atmosphere" but you have to when dining at a signature restaurant.

Have fun on your trip!

Close, the actual DDP per credit cost at a TS is slightly less than you are figuring. Since DDP offers 1 TS and 1 CS per night of stay, you're only spending 2 of the TS, leaving the 2 CS for those two nights.

Normally I figure about that a CS is valued around 10-12$ for these types of estimating, changing your cost to about $70.

Of course, this is still more than you're pricing up individually. Most of the time, 2 credit meals on the DDP are not quite worth the raw cost of 2 credits (e.g. OOP, they aren't double the cost of 1 credit places).

Now, that doesn't mean that you should never use DDP for 2 credit locations, it's not the best value for sure, but experience and "what you want to do" can outweigh that pretty easily. It's just something to take into account.

DxDDP is different, due to the structuring of the plan (3 credits per night) plus getting an appetizer means you average 26$ per credit, much easier to make happen at the 2 TS places.

I believe I came up with $28.50 or so as a 2011 TS credit cost. (Add $2 for peak season.) Your $91.98 cost I'm guessing is 2 nights of DDP credits, so don't forget you have 2 CS and 2 snack credits as well for the same cost.

That said, it's generally accepted that from a "value" standpoint, 2 TS locations usually aren't a great value on the basic DDP. On the other hand, there's no need to maximize the value of every meal/credit to get good value out of the plan. It's okay to be "suboptimal" at some meals if you're "making up for it" at others.

Wondering how you came up with your 91.00 figure.. I seem to be coming up with the value of a DLX credit around 20.00- so works for me

78.99/3 =26.33
2 snacks at low value 3.00 each =6

20.33 a credit and I'm not even putting value on mug

Double-check your math. It's ($79-$6)/3 = $24.33, not ($79/3)-$6 = $20.33.

The OP is not on DxDDP, only on DDP. DDP is $46.99/nt. 46.99 * 2 = 91.98 ;). (Which, isn't entirely correct as pointed out regarding CS. I also forgot snacks... stupid snacks always getting the best of me! /shakefist)

I used DxDDP simply to illustrate the difference in difficulty to reach that break even point at a 2 TS (and, since I forgot snacks again... it's even easier than I had previously estimated).

From first glance it looks like you are mising that the total price for the DDP is not the value of each credit. When using any form of the DDP my rule of thumb has been $25 value per TS--thus a 2 credit meal would be $50, $12 value for CS and $3 value for snack. Anything that went to over that just added value to the DDP. Remember that tax is included when you are on the DDP that would be an extra if OOP.

It also looks like you didn't add the cost of drink or tax so at $53 in value you are already ahead by $3 for my old breakeven formula. With price increases the breakeven might be off a few dollars now.

Most of the 2TS meals really only cost about 1.5 times more at most than the pricier 1 TS meals so yes it's not a great value for the DDP. For example the difference between the NY strip at Le Cellier (1TS) and Yachtsman (2TS)n is only $7. They don't taste at all the same and I'd rather eat 1 great meal than 2 ehh meals but that's why I'm not using the DDP so much anymore. You do tip on the cost of your meal and your receipts have a handy dandy tip calculator printed right on them. If you want to make the most of the DDP you want all sitdown dinners for 1 TS at the most expensive menu places like Tutto and Coral Reef. For QS you want places like Wolfgang Puck Express. There is a whole snack list which shows the most expensive snacks too (prices range from about $1 to almost $5 for some snacks). We just ate what we wanted mostly with the DDP and came out fine though didn't save tons but didn't lose any money.

Generally speaking, I find that the value per credit goes something like this:

Best value ~ dinner at a 1TS (usually about $35-40/person)
Next best ~ expensive lunch at 1TS ($30-35)
Mid ~ dinner at a 2TS ($25-30/credit)
Next worst ~ cheap lunch at a 1TS ($20-25)
Worst value ~ non-character breakfast ($20)

Overall I agree with DC Disney, but find that the dining plan fits my normal way of (vacation) eating really well and we break even using it. It's like anything else in life that's a "bargain"--if it's exactly what you'd want to do anyway, then it's worth it. If it's not, then it's not.

$47/night (2 nights) = $94

Dinner = $55 (forgot drink)
2 CS = $25
2 SK = $6
Total on meals for 2 days = $86

In this case NO the plan is not worth it.
