See if my math works out.

I was leaning on purchasing the deluxe plan for our 6-day trip because we have so many reservations at restaurants that would require credits toward sit down meals and not so much counter meals (i.e., crystal palace, chef mickey's, cinderella's royal table, garden grill, sci-fi, hollywood & vine, etc.).

Three of us would need to purchase the plan at $70.00 per day (6-days) per person and our youngest who will be just under three I was told would not need to purchase the plan as they would eat free (is this right). Anyways..........

It appears that the cost of adding this option to our trip would be $1,260 (not including the one-day park ticket we would require). We get in Sunday evening so if we were to have dinner that night then three meals each Mon-Fri I am looking at 16 meals. $1,260 divided by 16 is $78.75 PER MEAL.

For those more experienced dining at WDW am I going to spend more than $78.75 per meal for my family of four (one child less than 3) at the restaurants I mentioned above???? I don't think so right?

At 1st I thought the dining plan was a good option to purchase....but I think I'm walking out of chef mickey's, sci-fi, crystal palace, hollywood & vine, garden grill, etc. at LESS than $78.75 pre gratuity for the three of us that would have to pay........looks like the plan may not be worth it........

Does this make sense...............

You have stated 6 places you want to eat in 6 days. Is this it, or is there more?

If this is it. Then, I do not see the need to purchase the deluxe dining plan. i would pay out of pocket for crt, and purchase the regular ddp. You should not be hungry for food, as the regular dining plan allows one counter service meal per person per day, and one table service per person per day, plus a snack pp per day.

I say, unless you are a huge breakfast eater, or want to eat @ mostly signatures. Stick to the regular plan.

I being a huge eater. Cannot fathom eating 3 "disney" sitdown meals a day. But, others can, do, and enjoy. You have to choose the right fit, for you, and your family. I would choose extra days @ Disney for the money. But, again that is just me.;)

go to all ears dot net...

they have every menu listed with all prices! i can't remember off hand if you can get away with under $78 or not, but i sure would think so. also, it depends if you are talking breakfast or dinner - as those prices are different.

just a FYI - we also have quite a few sit-downs reserved, and i did the math. the DDxP was NOT worth it for us at all. in fact, there was a HUGE difference for us with DDP and a few OOP, vs. DDxP...

have fun!

I'll give you two typical days for us:

Breakfast- Donalds Safari- 18.99 + tax=21.00

Lunch- Flame tree- 16

Total= around 80

day2

Breakfast- Chef Mickey's- 22.99 +tax= 25

Lunch- snacks- 6

Dinner- California Grill-69.00

Total-100.00

Also OP remember with the exclusion of the tip with ddp, and Dxddp 2008. You will be paying tips on all sit down meals. Other than the ones which are included like CRT, Hoop De Doo. So, if you are doing three sit downs a day. Your tips per day will add up pretty quickly. Opposed to tipping @ one sit down per day, with the regular dining plan.

This is a huge factor for me. I noticed alot of people do not factor in their tip as a cost factor. But, with my upcoming 13 night trip. I figured my 18-20% tip. For my family of 4. To be somewhere @ 350-400. If, I was on the dxddp, eating at signatures. I could almost triple that equation. So, to me deluxe just does not cut it. This year, at least.:goodvibes

here's a sampling of prices for some of the places you listed...

H&V Dinner, $25/adult, $13/child = $63 plus tax, approx $70... that basically pays for your basic dining plan for the day, the other meal and snack are "free" if the plan is costing you $70/day

for the Deluxe Plan to pay for itself, you would have to eat at least 2 sit-downs per day, such as:
Chef Mickey's Breakfast, $23/Adult + $13/Child = $59 + Tax = $65
Garden Grill Dinner, $29/Adult + $14/Child = $72 + Tax = $80
for a total of $145 for two meals, with a credit and two snacks still remaining, for a daily cost of $70/Adult + $20/Child = $160

also, re: child under 3yo... yes they eat "free" but they do not get their own meal, but are "free" to eat off your plate, as well as free at buffets, all you care to eats, etc...

i hope that helps...

also, keep in mind that for three of you, you will be entitled to 36 snacks (on the deluxe plan) at approximately $3/snack (that's a low estimate) for a value of over $100; plus three mugs each worth about $12 for a total of $36... so if you subtract these values out of your $1260, you are looking at a cost of under $70 per meal for 16 meals...
