I got a parking ticket today in the mail that said i failed to appear in court on xxx day and if i don't pay by zzz they they are going to revoke my license.

However...

I NEVER GOT A PARKING TICKET. :confused3
Nothing was ever on my window..??? I don't remember using a parking meter..(which is the reason I got it..supposedly I went over the time)????
Am I losing my mind..or are mistakes like this common?

Is this a mistake? Could the police have written down the car info wrong? Has anyone ever gotten a mistaken parking ticket before?

FYI: I am not going to fight the system over $35, but I am wondering if I am losing my mind.

I doubt you are losing your mind. I once had a parking ticket which I did not know about. It appears that someone (a punk kid, more than likely) swiped it off my car for a prank.

Call them up and explain that you never received a ticket. Happened to me and when they sent me a copy of the ticket it wasn't for ME!!

This happened to my neighbor. Seems somehow someone had stolen his plate number or something??

Have you ever sold a car? Could it be from that plate that the person never reregistered?

You may have gotten one and had someone swipe it. They will put it on their car, makes the meterperson bypass their car, since there is already a "ticket" on theirs.

Were you ever parked near a college? The parking near the college town here is more expensive than the parking tickets. The kids collect tickets and send them home to mom and dad to pay, so the meter people just go down the line each day and write tickets, it appears, without looking at the meters at all. Good luck getting it straightened out.

Well..I just called and they said they will put a 90 day extension on the ticket..so it can be "investigated" to see if it was a mistake?! lol

I really don't remember using a parking meter. I don't think I ever have. (??)

I received something similar from the NY State Thruway EZ Pass division.. I called and told them to review the video (that catches the description of the car and the license plate number) as I hadn't even been on the thruway in a couple of years..

They called me back to say someone had entered one of the numbers wrong in the computer.. The vehicle was a Jeep - I have a Town & Country mini van..

Give a call and make sure someone didn't enter the wrong info into the computer.. :)

Maybe the bottom part is the problem! You were parked at one and didn't pay!

I'm so just kidding...I made myself laugh, but I'm pretty sure it's not funny over the internet

Anyway. It is possible. I worked parking enforcement in college (they pay well) and tickets were forever blowing off, being stolen, etc. What's funny about the strategy of steal a ticket and put it on the car so you don't get one is that we actually would write multiple ones in the same day for meter violations. We also had to check the ticket to make sure that it was from that day. If it was from the day before, got a new ticket (i.e. if they didn't have a parking pass or were in the wrong area). Some people just get the ticket envelopes and stick them on their cars, empty. We checked all of them to make sure they were the right car, etc. That strategy wouldn't have worked for us!

I used to work in a Municipal Court and this happened all the time. U's entered as Vs, S's as 5's, 1's as I's, and on and on.

Call and ask what make and model vehicle the ticket was issued to.

LOL, may..be. :rolleyes1

The only parking ticket I ever got (which I deserved, btw) had the wrong license plate on it. I'm sure the person who owned that plate was confused at some point when they received that ticket.

LOL, that's what I was going to say, too.

It's good you've called them, it's worth it!

We once got a parking ticket in the mail from months and months before. We were mystified. Had to spend a couple days thinking about the day in question, and finally realized that we had been up in that area of Seattle, and that we were using a cyber-cafe and went about 10 minutes over the meter, at which point hubby ran out to move the car, but there was NO ticket on the car (it was right in front of the cyber cafe!!! we would have noticed someone ticketing the car). Since we were there and we remembered there were a few minutes of going over the meter, we did pay it, but still, no one ever came by to ticket that car.:headache:
