Am I just totally crazy?

So I just had this weird idea, and correct me if it's totally strange, but there have been rumors about a Splash Mountain refurb (at Disneyland, idk about Disney World) and I thought it might be cool to change the theme of the ride from Song of the South (which I have not seen and no one really knows about anymore) to a different movie. I thought Pochahontas would be a good choice because
a) Lots of people are familiar with it, it's not totally obscure
b) but it's obscure enough that it would be good to have a ride based off of it
c) the river is a powerful theme in the movie, which makes it a good candidate for a water ride
d) could incorporate the songs which I love (Just Around the River Bend would be awesome)
e) the drop could be the waterfall she goes down, the logs could be like the canoe...

I was just wondering if anyone agreed with me that this could work or if y'all think I'm just totally crazy, since you know, Splash Mountain is like a classic and all that.

Interesting proposition :scratchin

I agree, they should have a Pocahontas ride. I do like Splash Mountain because it is a classic and lots of people love it. I would go for the Pocahontas theme though :thumbsup2

I don't know if I can realistically see Disney changing the theme of such a classic ride. As much as I love Pocahontas, there are some things that Disney will not touch- for example, the Haunted Mansion narration, voice and all, has not changed since the attraction opened- while everything else has been refurbished and improved at some point. The Carousel of Progress has had the same script since it opened and is now one of the longest running stage shows in history. Even Peter Pan's Flight, Pirates of the Caribbean and It's a Small World have only been retouched a little bit since they opened. I feel like Splash Mountain is one of those things- Disney doesn't like changing classic rides. They fear it'll upset the masses. We need a Pocahontas ride (and a meet and greet in Frontierland if we're being completely honest) for sure but I don't think Disney would ever change the theme of Splash Mountain.

That's what I was thinking!

Definitely crazy.

Yes, people do still know about and will probably continue to know about Song of the South. I enjoy the movie and have used it many times as a babysitting tool. Splash Mountain is a classic and I doubt it will change.

Plus, I really don't think Pocahontas is popular enough to really dedicate anything to her.

The ride was constructed to fit the Song of the South story, so I'd have to agree that it's probably not a realistic idea.

Realistically, it's safe to say that overhauling one of their biggest crowd-pleasers isn't even a priority.

The Pocahontas refurb could work in theory, but Disney ought to prioritize adding more thrill rides rather than fixing one that isn't broken.

on topic of Splash Mountain: this is a really neat piece on its narrative and how it's a solid combination of both types of story you encounter with most Disney attractions: http://pureimagineering.blogspot.com/2014/06/time-to-be-turnin-aroundif-only-you.html

Yeah, that's kind of what I was thinking, I just happen to really not care for the storyline of the ride right now. But yeah, I'm sure I'm in the minority for that, I just wanted to get some other opinions. You guys are probably right.

The more I think about a Pocahontas refurb, the more I think about Kali River Rapids. I mean, it's not a classic and nobody really goes on the attraction for the story of the deforestation/poaching and everything. Having a Pocahontas refurb for KRR might be a cute idea, especially if Colors of the Wind is piped through the ride. They might be able to do some really neat stuff with Pocahontas for KRR and promote both the movie and the ride. With all the educational stuff at RPW, having a Pocahontas meet and greet and more Pocahontas merch would be so cool.

Sorry, this was a rant. I just feel like Pocahontas would do really well at Animal Kingdom and with her show gone and everything she deserves more attention than she's getting ATM.

TL;DR- Pocahontas FTW

Yeah, that's a better idea, I definitely think Pochahontas needs more attention! She does feature prominently in World of Color which made me really happy!

I've never seen Song of the South but I love the story and characters (and music) of Splash and honestly I can't imagine Disney taking such a classic away! I would not be happy haha. But I really do like the idea of a Pocahontas ride- they should add that.

Yeah, she does need more attention. All you can really do is meet her and that's it and I don't even know if you can meet her anymore. (I haven't been in a while. And by a while I mean a year ha ha.)

I love that idea. KRR is perfect as you said, as it has no emotional connection to most people.
