Am I in the Twilight Zone? When Disney Wrongly Charges the Dining No Show Fee

Tonight, after reading over my debit card statement, I found an unexpected charge. A charge for $20 listed as “WDW Dine Ticket” which is apparently the charge for a reservation no show or cancellation. The irony being that just below that charge on my statement was the restaurant charge for Grand Floridian Café [the restaurant I made the reservation for]. Pictured Below:

I’m a bit frustrated by this and thought I’d share my experience.

The Basic Facts:
I enjoy eating lunch and also enjoy Disney [Central Florida Local].
The Grand Florida Café has excellent Reuben Sandwiches.
The Grand Florida Café was the only Dining Reservation I Made on 1/10/15.
I made it on time to the Grand Floridan Café for the reservation.
Along with the charge on my bank statement, I have my receipt [which supports the fact that I’m not in some alternate Twilight Zone, but sometimes I wonder].

The Back Story: On Saturday, a friend and I decided we wanted to go eat lunch at the Grand Floridian Café. We called 407-WDW-Dine about 11:45am on 1/10/15. Disney now has a fully automated Dining reservation system [I’ve used it 3-4 times since the switchover from live person to automated computer]. Each time I’ve called the automated system has had troubles. The system has trouble with voice recognition in particular [numbers are easier for it to recognize than other words]. This particular Saturday was no different. I had to repeat phases multiply times and spell my name out as usual. I choose 12:40pm for the reservation time at Grand Floridian Cafe. Then something unusual happened, before getting to the credit card information prompt it repeated a phase a couple of times, then said it was unable to understand, and transferred me to a live reservation cast member. I told the cast member what happened and had to start all over again to provide the same information. When we got to the time question, I told the cast member that I wanted 12:40pm since it was open before. The cast member said that it was not available and closest available time was 12:55pm, so I went with that. I then provided my address and card information. A confirmation number was given. My friend and I made it to the Grand Floridian on time and checked in. The cast members at the Grand Floridian Café were very nice and we were seated within a couple minutes of arriving. The Reuben sandwich was just as excellent as usual.

I suspect the following occurred. After providing my address and credit card information to the cast member on the phone the system automatically validated the first reservation time [even though I did not completed the automated reservation] at 12:40pm and the reservation the cast member was making for 12:55pm was also validated. Guest Relations will be receiving a call tomorrow. An update, one way or the other will be provided below.

Has anyone else encountered this problem?

Does the automated dining reservation system cause you problems?

Also, feel free to share your positive and negative experiences with the dining reservation system.

Stuff happens, have seen several instances of guests who were charged for a no-show when they actually attended. Call WDW and tell them you have the receipt.

I received the refund for the $20. The cast member was very helpful. To fix a similar problem just need to contact a dining reservations cast member, 407-WDW-DINE.
