We've done both onsite & offsite stays. For our upcoming trip, we are renting a large home in Formosa Gardens since we have 9-10 adults traveling together. I admit that I was initially concerned about staying offsite. Our last stay was at OKW and we loved it. We won't be going back to a hotel room for a larger group ever again.
But, now that we've made our reservations we are really excited about staying in a villa. We are going to have a large pool all to ourselves in our back yard. No hiking to the pool after walking around the parks all day. No hunting for a lounge chair, and no worrying about our personal belongings while we are swimming. ... did I mention the private spa as well? Oh yah and the pool table, the air hockey table, and the large LCD TV in the living room... for almost half the price of an onsite stay at OKW. It is true that we won't be able to use the Disney bus system, but at the end of the day, I won't miss waiting for 30 minutes to stand on a bus back to my resort. And I'll get to park right at my door.
The time of year that you are going, you won't need EMH to see everything. EMH just draws larger crowds to the parks anyway. The parks will all be open later since it is the summer, you'll be fine.
No matter what... you'll be in the magic everyday, and you'll have a great time.
