Am I going to be in trouble for this?

So here I am with less then 2 weeks until my family and I are finally at CSR enjoying Disney and now as all the preparations are made I am fearing I may have gone a bit over board. Let me first tell you, my wife is the one in the family that despises spending money...so while she lets me spend money on occasion she is never thrilled.

Anyway, for our trip, I really wanted to make the trip a bit more special for everyone. So I got the great idea of hiding little gifts for everyone in the room for when we arrive. So for my son there will be a dreams plush Chip and Dale and a POTC lanyard. My daughter is getting the Dreams plush Donald, and Goofy with a princess lanyard and my wife will be getting a Minnie nurses watch (she is in the middle of school to get her RN) and a Minnie lanyard. All in all, I think it ended up costing me like $150 to get all this together. So in the grand scheme of things it is not too much. But seriously is there a chance that my gesture on all this can be overshadowed by the added expense? I mean we do have the money, this is not gonna keep us from paying our credit card bill or anything, I am now fearing (albeit too late) that I may have gone a bit far on this whole thing....what are your thoughts?

Only you know your wife, and your financial situation. For some people, what you're doing is restrained, for others wonderful, and for some overboard. Generally, though, I think if you have to ask the question, you already really know the answer.

Just be aware, though, that these things cannot be in your room "for when you arrive." They don't assign you to a room until you check in.

Whatever you decide, have a wonderful trip!

All in all, I think it will be a very good thing for the family. And I must say that my gift for my wife will not be looked at as just spending of money as there is purpose behind it being that she actually does need a watch for her nursing program with a second hand for doing blood pressure. So the watch comes as filling a very real need with a nice added touch.

Seriously though, not sure how this all happened or if this happens with all of you, but I have had a very hard time not over-thinking every aspect of this trip from making ADR's to spending a ton of time figuring out the "perfect" gifts to get. Somewhere I know very well that the trip will be a phenomenal magical time for us no matter what happens, it is just very hard to see that sitting here in Chicago. I get in this mode where I have to create any magic.

Anyway, thanks for the feedback. And about leaving the gifts in the room upon arrival, yes, I know there is no way to make that happen, so I have already worked this out with my wife (she is expecting a couple small gifts for the kids). I will just go to the room prior to the rest of the family as they explore the pool and dig site.

I usually start the "gifts" a week or two prior to leaving...to get everyone excited about the trip. I try to pick up inexpensive Disney items beforehand...from something as simple as a box of Disney raisins, to pins and lanyards I've found on sale throughout the year...just a little something to get us ready for the trip. My kids are in their teens now, and laugh at what I come up with...but I think they'd be disappointed w/o the "countdown" gifts.

Anything to spread the pixie dust!!::MinnieMo

My dd who is 4 just went on her 4th trip. The first was spare of the moment just for one day when she was 9 months old. The second is when she was 2 and every September since than. Except for her first trip I always get her a gift bag and some way or form I get it in her bed for her before she gets in the room and she believes Cinderella gave it to her. I always but a new nightie, cup, disney odds and ends I find and this year I did the lanyard and pins for her. She loves it and the look on her face is priceless.

Enjoy it and make it a magical trip.

I think what you are doing is great:) I made tee shirts for the 3 of us and left them at the end of the bed for the 2 kids I took. So, when they got up in the morning, they had an invitation to breakfast and a shirt for the day...I probably spent that much on shirts, glow sticks, refillable mugs etc...so, bless you for thinking ahead to do this..what a great dad and husband:)
