Am I getting old or is this horribly wrong?

Wow. I'm so desensitized I didn't even blink.

Alright, I like this place, and feel comfortable here, so I'm gonna give my honest opinion and be Devil's Advocate, despite the fact it won't be popular. First, even if you're appalled with the routine, admit it, they're talented. Second, reminds me of the "My Boyfriend's Back" video on YouTube.

This comes down to cultural norms and/or different parenting styles. Grew up in the city. Just take a look at the average African American community. During the summer there's always parties going on where kids are 'booty dancing', not only that, but actually being egged on by adults. This is pretty common. And this doesn't even scratch the culture in Brazil. Also, look at cinema. 40 years ago, all copies of movies like Leon, especially KickA** for having the Hit Girl character would have been burned. The bar for things that are acceptable gets lower every generation.

You want to turn this into a racial debate?

I don't know. Remember the outrage in Brazil over the 7yo Samba queen? And when you watch the video, her dance is much tamer than the one in the OP.

No doubt they're talented, but their moves and costumes are way too sexual.

Leave that to people Beyonce's age!

Yeah, vaguely. It wasn't from CNN, I did see a news blip about it though. But media often puts deceiving spins on stories for PR. The woman who had a problem with it was Americanized clearly with perfect English. You have no idea how often stuff like this happens in Brazil as I alluded to in my previous post. My uncle has a friend from Venezuela and for some people to spend time with his family during celebrations from their own country, and even the 4th of July, many would be in shock. Stuff like samba dancing is a moot issue. Also, obviously everybody in every country don't agree 100 percent on things, and my apologies if my post came across that way.

Apparently 3 of the girls in this video have another dance video on youtube just as bad to "My Boyfriends Back".

I think that one may almost be worse!

This is apparently a very large and successful studio. Their dancers have won many competitions and gone on to some big shows. I bet they're pretty confused as to why people are up in arms.

My opinion short and sweet: The dancing is great....talented girls!!!! I think the costumes are too revealing for that age group, tho.

Already mentioned it, but they're from the same trope? Heh. Figures.

I danced for 18 years; I didn't dress or dance like that when I was 17..... What’s sad is that these girls seem to be REALLY talented, but their poor choice in costume and gyrating moves really distracts from that fact.

Ok, the first time I pulled up that video was at work and I shut it down quickly because I was afraid security would come in.

I just watched the full video and I'm totally disgusted that those girls parents thought it was ok for them to dance like that, in those outfits. And I am far from conservative, but there is no way in hell my daughter at 7 or now at 12would be dancing like that, dressed like that.

Was that a dance school or stripper school? And the audience yelling? I fully expected to see dollar bills being thrown on stage.

Uh oh...that's demeaning to men. Didn't you read the whole thread? ;)

I honestly don't see how anyone could think that is appropriate. Miniature Fredrick's of Hollywood costumes - blech. And honestly, I don't think I am a prude.

I am so glad that my daughter didn't like dance and prefers sports.

Wow! This thread is still alive and well. :lmao:

I wonder - what is the definition of the word self-righteous? :rolleyes1

What we need are more scarlet letters. :thumbsup2

It is too bad more people couldn't look at this from a wider perspective. :thumbsup2

As you point out in a later post, this has nothing to do with race.
