Our Big trip and first trip home to is going to be for 6 days 7 nights during the first week of December 2006, we plan on getting a Grand Villa. I am figuring that it will cost us 438 points (going off of the 2005 point chart). We are going to bank 2005, use 2006, and borrow from 2007. We own 160 points. So 3 years of points would be 480, which would leave us with 42 points after all is said and done.

We would like to stay for 2 nights at the end of September this year (9/30 & 10/1 to be exact) at BWV. DH would like to stay at BCV, but we would have to rent 3more points or can we pay that out of pocket? How does that work? That trip would cost us 41 points for BWV and 45 for BCV.

Am I figuring this right? And when I call I only mention the 05' trip and then wait until June to bank the rest of the points?

Our use year is June and we just bought this past October. Does that mean we can't book our 05' trip until June or can we do this now?

Thanks,
Melissa

You can book 9/30 to 10/1/05 now for home resort; March for others(use year has nothing to do with when you can call to reserve which is always 11 months in advance at home resort and 7 at others). In fact, you may have a difficult time getting a BWV standard view for the lower points because you are already late in booking for those views because standard views are the hardest to get. Likewise Grand Villas are hard to get, particularly for early December, one of the highest DVC demand times and thus to get that in 06 you will have to book day by day 11 months out and call when they first open in the morning. For that 06 trip (for which I think you meant 6 nights and 7 days and not the other way around) you can bank 2005 points and borrow 2007 points. You will need to bank the 2005 points by November 2005 which is before you can call to make the ressie; borrowing is always done at time you make the ressie.

Note, I am not sure of your point situation; if you bought last October, did you get any 2004 points? If so you need to do something with those because you are beyond the date for banking them all, although still within the time to bank up to half.

You cannot pay a portion of a night out of pocket and the rest with points. You can attempt to reserve the extra needed full nights with cash but may have to go through Central Reservations to do that.

You must pay with each night in either all cash or all points. So, you would have to rent 3 more points or stay at BWV.

I'm not sure if you can bank before your UY starts. I'd think you'd have to wait until June.

As long as the points will be inoyur acct by te time of your stay, you use the 11/7 month booking windows. You do not have to wait until your UY to make the reservations.

Check if you have 2004 points remaining. Since you are beyond the 6 month banking window, you would only be able to bank 50% of the 2004 points, if there are any left. If you are planning a GV for 12 2006, you will make those ressies next January. For a GV at BWV, you will definitely want to call day by day to be assured of getting one of the only 7 GVs available there. If you are planning on a GV at SSR or OKW, it wont be quite so important to call day by day, but I would still do it for a GV. Your June 2005 points banked into 2006 plus your 2006 points equals 320. If you are staying at BWV, the point cost for 6 nights would be 464 and at SSR it would be 420. That means you would either be borrowing 100 or 144 points from 2007. The remainder of those points could not be banked until after 6/2007. If you are wanting to stay this fall, you would either need to have banked 2004 points or could borrow up to 16 points if you are staying at BWV in December or 60 points if you are staying at SSR in December. Does that make sense? I'm not sure where you came up with the 438 point cost.

We just bought straight from Disney this past October. It was my understanding that because our use year was June that we won't get our points until June 2005.

Right now, I am not worried about getting the Grand Villa because that won't be until next year. We are planning at staying at our home resort which is SSR. I have been told that they are hard to get. Believe me I will be on the phone each day trying to get what we need. Thanks for the tips.

dianeschlicht .... I came up with the points by using the calculator on this site. I plugged in the dates 12/2-8, SSR, & grand villa which equals 438. The way I was figuring out how many points we will need is we will bank 2005 in June, use 2006, which equals 320 and borrow 118 from 2007.

Now, if we use points to go in September 30 & October 1 we will use some of our 2005 points that we get in June and that throws off my totals by 41 if we stay at BWV or 45 at BCV.

I think I have this figured out. Thanks everyone!

You should call member services and make sure you don't have points from 2004. If you bought last October, you would have gotten your June 2004 use year points and will have paid prorated dues. There is a chance you sold those points back using the "magical beginnings" promotions they sometimes run to reduce your down payment requirement. If you did, then you don't have any points to worry about until this June, but I'd definitely call and make sure.

I've calculated that your Dec 2006 trip is actually 420 points. Have you taken a look at Caskbill's DVC Planner yet?

Your SSR trip for the GV will cost you 420 points, not 438. This is because you calculated your 438 total using calendar year 2005 and not calendar year 2006.

The difference is that those December dates in 2005 include two weekend nights, (Fri-Wed inclusive), while in 2006 they only include one weekend night (Sat-Thu inclusive)

Sorry about the link being lost in the signature block below. Haven't had a chance to fix everything since the DIS boards eliminated HTML coding. My signature was a little more complex than average.... :teeth:

If you want to get to the DVC-PLanner site, here's a link....
