We considered buying into for DVC for 4 years before we finally made the decision to purchase while on our first cruise in Jan. 08.
We had been going (and continue to go) to WDW at least 2 times a year. We drooled over DVC, coveted it, wanted it soooo badly!
We have been DVC members for one year now and I have to say I am not enjoying it as much as I thought I would. We had our first real visit "home" Dec. 6-13 in a 2bdrm villa at SSR. I did not enjoy this resort at all.
It was very large and the bus service was horrible. My DD4, myself and my mother went for a quick trip this past June for three nights and stayed at OKW. It was a nice stay.
Here's my beef. Other than having my room rate locked in, I have found there really was no other benefit. Everytime I asked (and believe me, I asked everywhere we ate, shopped, etc.) about a DVC discount, I was told that there was no longer a discount available. I went on a waitlist at exactly the 7 month mark to the day and it never came thru. Whenever I call MS, there is rarely the room type and resort available that we are looking for. We have found lower cash rates on cruises than could be believed so it wouldn't benefit us to book a cruise with points.
If I can rent points at around $10 per point at roughly $600-800 for a stay, why would I continue to keep my DVC membership?
I thought "membership has its priviledges." What and where are they? Somebody talk me down off this ledge!

and that time, I went out of my way to specifically buy something that was discounted. I forget now...We have AP's and sometimes that discount is better. DVC gets discounts on some tours, but so do AP's and even booking with Disney Visa gets you something.
. Since i have yet to get one of those great 'pin codes' guess i'll keep my DVC
or anything.) We did enjoy our stays at POR, and we plan to still stay at the other moderates from time to time paying cash. We do like the flexability of being able to stay at so many places. I just don't want to get stuck at SSR again like we were this time.
but I did miss the daily housekeeping you get when you don't stay at DVC. When I am on vacation I really don't want to make the beds everyday, have trash lingering around, or dirty towels to use. I like coming back everynight to a room that has been cleaned, beds made and fresh linen hanging in the bathrooms.
you own a piece of Mickey!!
